Thanks for the link, that's a great idea too.  Having a tough time deciding whether I want to be lazy and just get Ikea's or go custom, but your way would certainly let me get a more wood look I want.  I'm really kicking myself for not repainting the boring beige storage room before moving all my "carp" into it.

Edit: Didn't realize there were built-in censors so I've changed it to the word carp.  :p

Double-Edit: I'm going to go ahead and post the mantle of my basement and the tri-fold comic book holder I have.  These aren't from the actual comic storage room but they're what I get to look at every day.

Where'd you get this? I want to hang that in my mancave!!

I may have to resort to brackets. I made sure it was level when building it, but i didn't take into account the sponginess of the carpet and it was a little wobbly at first. At the moment, i only have the bottom shelf populated and it’s sturdy, but I will definitely have to secure it better as it fills up.

I have no doubt the structure is solid with that wood used, I would just anchor it to the wall (at a minimum) to prevent the whole thing from tipping over.  It wouldn't be hard to do, add maybe four brackets (two on each side) and that should do it!

That's cool.  They almost look like they could be original.  That would score

Well, it looks like comic boxes with artwork are a lot more popular than I thought. I have no idea how I wasn't aware of these until last week. Wal-Mart has a whole bunch of different versions.

Gwenpool gets her own box?!  Seriously.   How much is Wally World asking for these?

Yeah, but the price drops pretty significantly if you buy more than 1. Wal Mart sells them in 2 packs, 5 packs and full cases (10 pack). By the time your at the full case your basically paying 50% of the price of an individual box. Then again, just how many GwenPool boxes does one person need, lol. An individual box is $17.99, a 5 pack is 56.99 ($11.40 each), and a full case is $89.99 ($8.99 each).

So are these only available online?  Or actually in stores?   I haven't been to a Wal-Mart in months (it's been bliss).

Recently built a bookshelf for my comic room sturdy enough to hold short boxes and enough vertical room for the larger artist editions. Used reclaimed wood (oak) that is super-dense so I'm not worried about sagging shelves, etc. Also, this is the first piece of furniture I've built not using any fasteners at all; crosslap joints only.

IMG_1824.JPG

This is what I desperately need to do, just create my own bookshelves with my own dimensions. I am buying more and more oversized art books these days so buying regular bookshelves just doesn't make a lot of sense. We have 2 of those really cheap cube bins that you can get at places like Target. We got ours in one of the storage bin auction we won. Each one has 9 cubes and they are actually really good for storing smaller books. Their ugly as all h*ll, but they work really well for storage. We have them in our spare rooms so we really don't care what they look like. Our spare rooms are basically just big storage bins anyways. I actually used to have some pretty solid woodworking skills back in the day. I really do need to take a page out of your book and just get motivated and build my own. I would love to knock out one of the walls in our upstairs hallway and do a recessed bookshelf running all the way down. That would add a LOT of storage space for books and since it would be recessed, it wouldn't add any clutter to the upstairs.

I feel like I am constantly trying to fit 20 gallons into a 10 gallon container, trying to squeeze as much storage space as possible out of every inch of our house. I literally have things going right to the ceiling in our spare rooms.

5aa5badad173e_IMG_8365copy.jpg.3952091366f29f1179dae702c09a9df4.jpg5aa5bad849c6e_IMG_8363copy.jpg.918d58d21fe7f58aa913637d7c375d1d.jpg

And those blue storage lockers we won in our most recent storage bin auction win have been a great addition as their perfect for mid sized art books.

Looks like fun :)

How are you liking glass cabinets? I bought one, but am struggling to find use for it....I like how you did it 1 statue and 1 graded book... the cabinets I have are an odd size, 13-14 inch space between shelves, the shelves are removable but they themselves are I think tempered glass. Probably can only hold 15-17 pounds. I always planned to put a tall and or heavy on the bottom.

Do you have lights for the cabinet too?

I have lights somewhere but haven't installed them.  I'll get around to it one day :preach:.

This room has been pieced together for a few years and I've gotten a lot of inspiration from this thread.  2 moves, and many trips to Ikea and this is what it has turned into.

The glass detolfs are the best bang for your buck!  With the new tweeterhead 1/6 scale Super Powers statue line coming out I think they will be perfect!

Welcome to the slippery slope of collecting.:) After 44 years of collecting and custom building my own storage for my books and magazines comics and collectables I'm now running out of space. I've went the floor to ceiling route followed by the sliding bookcases over bookcases and I love it however I'm now being even more selective in what I buy as space has caught up with me. Good luck on your own journey that's where the fun lies.

Never seen them in Wal-Mart, probably online ordering only.  It says sold and shipped by Columbia Sports, LLC.

Your LCS can probably order them. I've gotten all of my art boxes (including some of the ones pictured here) through my LCS for about $12. Worth asking your shop owner.

I'm not even a big DC fan but that room is so tasteful and clean.  Are those the IKEA Mosslanda black shelves we've seen in a few rooms or something else?  Keep meaning to get down to my local IKEA but an IKEA run is just such an ordeal.

Right here:  http://www.gradecomstore.com/graded-book-pods/

There are holes on the back for hanging.

The boxes were a combination of amazon and ebay
