CGC’s San Diego Comic Con 2009 Show Summary

Posted on 8/3/2009

It is always an exciting event when the city of San Diego transforms itself for Comic Con International, and this year’s convention was no different. There were signs and banners posted all around town advertising everything from True Blood, the HBO TV series, to James Cameron’s long-awaited movie, Avatar.

But, the real excitement began when the San Diego Convention Center’s show floor opened for Preview Night on Wednesday July 22nd. The floor was very busy with fans trying to purchase early exclusives, pick up unique freebies and make early comic purchases. CGC was in attendance in the Gold and Silver Pavilion and our booth was steadily busy throughout the weekend with customers submitting books or just asking questions about our services.

Signature Series was definitely a popular service at this convention and witnesses were constantly trekking out on the floor procuring signatures from artists like Jim Lee, Gene Colan, Matt Fraction, and Dave Gibbons, to name only a few! Also, there were some opportunities to obtain the signatures of various media guests and Hollywood stars on the comics that related to their current or past works (like Fringe, True Blood and X-Men).

Besides Signature Series, submissions were bountiful and many of the recent or newly-released titles were submitted such as Haunt Preview, Chew, Mayhem!, Heroes SDCC Exclusives, Berserker, and Image United Preview. CGC also hosted some exciting signings at the booth including the Hero Initiative’s Hero Comic signing that included Laura Martin, David Lloyd, Arthur Adams, and Bill Willingham. Some of the big announcements at the show are sure to excite comic fans including DC bringing back many fan-favorite characters as zombies in the Blackest Night series and Marvel obtaining the legal rights to Miracleman/Marvelman.

CGC would like to thank Kevin Boyd for his tireless work as Signature Series Director and his efforts at this busy show. Also, big thanks to Frank Murray, Jon Jesperson, Daniel Hernandez and Ryan Caffrey for assisting with witnessing for the CGC booth and to Desert Wind Comics for their assistance with the Stan Lee event.

We look forward to seeing everyone at this show again next year!
