Posted on 8/25/2025
A CGC-certified set of World Wide Gum Sea Raiders cards blew away the competition in a recent Hake’s sale. The 24-card set was just one of the hundreds of CGC-certified collectibles that were offered in Hake’s Auction #244, Session 2, which ended on July 30, 2025.
The 1933 World Wide Gum Sea Raiders non-sports card set (lot 1350) realized an impressive $68,964 in the sale. Each card is certified by CGC and pedigreed to the John Grossman Collection. The cards are designated as a “Copyright File Copy” set, meaning they were not sold in stores. Instead, they were sent to the US Patent Office for review. Of the two sets that were sent for review, this one was returned to World Wide Gum, while the other was held by the federal government.
Meanwhile, the top-selling CGC-certified comics in this auction were led by a Wonder Woman #1 graded CGC 3.0 (lot 641), which realized $29,205, and a Fantastic Four #1 graded CGC 4.5 (lot 678), which realized $16,606.
