CGC Expert Review Opinions

CGC Expert Review helps eBay buyers make smarter purchases by providing a preliminary opinion of authenticity and, if requested, grade. Opinions start at just $5, and customers will receive a voucher equal to the amount paid that can be used to submit the comic book to CGC for regular grading services. (Vouchers are valid for 90 days.)

When a CGC Expert Review request is made, a CGC expert will review the eBay listing’s images and provide a preliminary opinion within 52 hours. Opinions will be sent by email. The possible opinions are shown below along with their cost and definition.

CGC Expert Review Opinions

A customer can purchase an Authenticity Opinion only or an Authenticity & Grade Opinion.

Authenticity Opinion only: $5 fee
Authenticity & Grade Opinion: $10 fee

Authenticity & Grade Opinions come with a free Label Type Opinion

Authenticity Opinion   Definition
Likely Genuine   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible is likely genuine.
Likely Not Genuine   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible is likely not genuine or altered.
Inconclusive   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and is unable to provide an opinion of authenticity. The full fee is refunded.
Not Eligible   An CGC expert has reviewed the listing and has determined that it is not eligible for CGC Expert Review (ie. already graded; not a comic; too many items). The full fee is refunded.

Note: No grade opinion will be provided if the authenticity opinion is “Likely Not Genuine,” “Inconclusive,” or “Not Eligible.”

Grade Opinion   Definition
Likely 8.0-10.0   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely grade between 8.0 and 10.0.
Likely 6.0-8.0   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely grade between 6.0 and 8.0.
Likely 4.0-6.0   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely grade between 4.0 and 6.0.
Likely 2.0-4.0   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely grade between 2.0 and 4.0.
Likely 0.5-2.0   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely grade between 0.5 and 2.0.
Likely No Grade   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely receive the “NG” (No Grade) notation from CGC because it is either missing the entire cover, or one half or more of the interior pages, or both.
Likely Individual Page   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely receive the “PG” (Individual Page) notation from CGC because it is either a single page or wrap from the interior of a comic book.
Likely Cover   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely receive the “CVR” (Cover) notation from CGC because it is only the front or back cover.
Inconclusive   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and is unable to provide an opinion of grade. The grade portion of the fee ($5) will be refunded.

Label Opinion   Explanation
Likely Universal (BLUE)   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely receive the blue Universal Label, which is given to collectibles that have no qualifiers or special considerations.
Likely Qualified (GREEN)   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely receive the green Qualified Label, which is given to collectibles that either have unwitnessed signatures or need an additional grade notation.
Likely Restored (PURPLE)   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely receive the purple Restored Label, which is given to collectibles that have evidence of repair.
Likely Conserved (BLUE/GREY)   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and believes that the collectible would likely receive the grey Conserved Label, which is given to collectibles that have evidence of professional repairs done to improve structural integrity and long-term preservation.
Inconclusive   A CGC expert has reviewed the listing and is unable to provide an opinion of the label type. No refund is given.
