Wonder Woman 178

After going the whole summer abstaining from purchasing, I'm back to collecting comics again. Just won this in he current Comic Link auction. The first of the "mod" Diana Prince issues and very much sought after. Don't usually see this book on the market in grades above 9.0. Enjoy.

Green Lantern 81

Won this in the Comic Link auction last night. The greatest of the Neal Adams runs was GL/GA, and I could not pass up the opportunity to acquire one of these in 9.6. My winning bid was not too high, either. Enjoy.

Acquisition Of Detective 395....Not!

So, this book is back on my want list. The consignor who listed it at Pedigree Comics must have resubmitted it, without removing it from the website. This I found out because when I tried to add it to my registry set, CGC informed me that the certification number was not in their database. Well, these things happen, but the consignor needs to get his act together. Pedigree Comics tried to get a hold of this person to find out the status of the book, but to no avail. Got my refund, so I can stop

Detective 395

Picked this one up from Pedigree Comics just now. A landmark issue in that it features the first pairing of writer Denny O' Neil with artist Neal Adams. The two would go on to greatness, of course, with the GL/GA run a few months after this. This issue also takes Batman into a more gothic area, which would continue for years throughout the seventies. Definitely one of the holy grails of my collection. And my first signature acquisition since 2016. Four more Adams books to go. Enjoy.

Anyone Remember Skywald Magazines?

Won this in the recent Pedigree Comics auction. These mags were around for the first half of the 1970s. At the time, many thought of them as the poor man's Warren mags. But since then a cult following has developed for these books, more or less. A bunch of them were up for auction here, which was a surprise, since you rarely see slabbed copies of these turn up on the market. Along with Nightmare, there was also Scream and Psycho. I like the provocative cover on this one. Enjoy.

Subby 36

Picked up this one today from my LCS. Continuing with my acquisition of Marvel books. Nice cover on this one with a story that features the wedding of Namor and Dorma....apparently. Wrightson is credited with artwork here, I believe he did the inking job. Enjoy.

FF 110

Picked this one up on ebay yesterday. A cool cover for this issue that I've always wanted. This one is famous for the copies with the "green printing error". Had I acquired one of those in 9.4, it would have cost me an arm and a leg. Trying to finally concentrate on the Marvel books on my want list. So I'll be showcasing more of them in my upcoming journals. Enjoy.

WW 200 For Under $200

Won this yesterday in the Comic Link auction. A good dollar/points ratio as this book is worth 450 on the registry. A nice cover by Jeff Jones, though his 199 cover is much better. That one I've submitted to be slabbed, should come back a very high grade. Enjoy.

How Did This Book Become So Hot?

I've always liked the cover of this particular issue of Sub-Mariner. So when it turned up for auction on ebay a week ago, I decide to go for it. I put in a bid earlier today for $265, the auction ending at 9:30pm est. I figured the book was worth no more than that amount, my bid being the 23rd. Well, when it was all over, there had been 36 bids and the winning amount was...……$676.66!?!?! It happens to be a pedigree copy, but still. Is Tiger Shark going to appear in a movie or something? The last

Back To Buying

Well, here's the first purchase for 2019. Just got this on ebay, where my best offer was accepted. One of the more difficult WWs to find in high grade. Happy New Year!

Year End Comments

Looks like I'm done with purchases for this year. Acquired 17 books for 2018, much less than the previous year, when I bought 38 altogether. But this year it was a matter of quality over quantity, as I picked up many key books. And nothing under 9.2. So, I'll return here next year. Happy Holidays everyone!

Hulk 168

Won this on ebay today. Nice cover that I've always admired by the late, great Herb Trimpe. Enjoy.

HOM 178

Just won this in an auction. An upgrade from the 9.0 I currently have. One of the few House Of Mystery issues with interior art by Neal Adams. And it's always nice to land a pedigree copy. Enjoy.

Hip Diana Prince

Picked this up from World Wide Comics. A few of these books featuring the mortal, powerless Wonder Woman have nice covers that appeal to me, and this is one of them. Missed out on an awesome 9.2 issue 178 two weeks ago in the Comic Link auction, having been outbid at the last second. Also trying to find a high grade copy of 185. Enjoy.

Lois Lane 83

Just picked this one up on ebay, my best offer being accepted. Don't pick up many books nowadays with this original CGC label. And there are very few copies of this one on the census. Enjoy.

Teen Titans 22

Just won this in the Comic Link auction. My first 9.6 DC acquisition in quite some time. Neal Adams sharing artwork duties with Nick Cardy. Five more Adams books to go.

Nice acquisition and meeting The Man

Picked this one up today at the Niagara Falls Comic Con. An awesome 9.2 that looks more like a 9.4. And on top of that, Neal Adams, the artist of this cover, was there. Chatted him with a bit and bought a reprint book of Deadman stories from Strange Adventures, which he signed. This was my third meeting with him at a show. Also, for the first time, a finally met Jim Steranko here today. Very nice guy. Anyways, enjoy.

At Long Last......Creepy 14

Just bought this one on ebay. Ten years of waiting to acquire this super tough book. Third times the charm I guess. On two previous listings of this book on ebay, over the last two and a half years, I did not have the funds to buy it now. Needless to say, on both occasions they were snatched up very fast. This marks the first work at Warren for Neal Adams. Only 18 of these on the CGC census. And with this acquisition, I have seven more Adams books to go. Enjoy.

Vampirella 9

Won this in the recent Comic Link auction. Planning to concentrate on Marvels and Warren magazines for 2018. This book has a nice double panel cover with artwork by Wally Wood and Boris Vallejo. Also features interior work by Barry Windsor-Smith. Like the Defenders 5 from my previous journal, I got this book for dirt cheap. Enjoy.

Flash 195

Just won this book on ebay. Very tough one to find slabbed. One of the better covers by Neal Adams for this title. Enjoy.

Frazetta Greatness III

A nice pickup here from ebay. One of my favorites of Frank Frazetta's many Warren covers. Tough to find in the higher grades slabbed and when one does turn up, the price is usually quite steep. Fortunately, my best offer to the seller on ebay was accepted and I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg. Enjoy.

Last Buy For 2017

Picked this one up just now from World Wide Comics. A nice pedigree copy and also an OAK, as this is the only 9.4 slabbed copy. Another lightweight fantasy cover for this title, which was so prevalent with DC at the time. Still, a guilty pleasure nonetheless. This was absolutely my best year for acquisitions. 39 CGC books in all. The breakdown - 19 DC, 16 Marvel, 2 Warren and 2 Amryl. Happy Holidays everyone! Enjoy.

Captain Marvel 17

Picked this one up on ebay today. The start of the Mar-Vell/Rick Jones body transferral between Earth and the Negative Zone, by way of the nega-bands. This new situation would eventually lead to the Thanos saga a couple of years later. Now if only I could afford a high grade copy of Marvel Super-Heroes 13, the first appearance of Carol Danvers. Enjoy.
