  2. Looks like some cover swiping going on with these things.
  3. Bump! Anyone that has any WWT splashes, I’m interested. Please drop me a line.
  4. You are correct. I'll set the minimum contest requirement to qualify for the top 50 cumulative rankings list through contest #10 at 4.75 contests (as usual, I take total contests divided by two subtract 0.25 = 10 / 2 - 0.25 = 4.75). by completing all 4 rounds of this contest you'll have 5 total contests under your belt through contest #10.
  5. For now, that's likely true. But what you're saying is not necessarily an indicator of future success or failure if the character takes off at the same level as Miles or Wade (not saying he will). I'd contend it's not "stupid logic;" I'd say it's just too early to tell at this point. I also wouldn't put all my eggs in the Spider-Boy basket, but I bought a few copies at pre-order and sold some to cover my costs, so I'm covered on my end anyway. It'd be great if the character takes off, and I don't think you can quite write him off yet.
  6. I distinctly remember seeing this ad in the pages of a comic through which I was flipping on the spinner rack at Les' Variety in August 1962: I was awestruck! It wasn't until early 1964 (I think) though that I got my hands on a copy. Here's the one from my present day collection:
  7. There were a couple of books this contest where I felt a bit disadvantaged by not having a copy of the CGC grading guide. I missed one of the two books by 1 point, but missed the other (SW #8) by 4 points!
  8. Hi @Cerebus3000 In terms of CGC consistency/inconsistency, I did some analysis a while back, through the 6th grading contest, in an attempt to follow Aristotle's "wisdom of the crowd" concept, whereby "large groups of people are collectively smarter than individual experts...". As a result of that analysis, I found that the CGC grader(s) would have ranked 3rd overall if measured against the performance of the top 50 graders through the 6th grading contest (with an average score just 1.5 behind @jbpez and just 0.2 behind @TheGeneral through the first 6 contests). To me that is a very very impressive ranking, and within the margin of error of being the best grader out of all participants. I could refresh that analysis through the first 10 contests if you'd like. As part of that refreshed analysis, I could provide an alternative cumulative grading test top 50 for everyone else as well, as measured against the top 50 boardies average grade per book. I could reduce the top 50 to say the top 25, or top 10 like you suggest. I think that would provide you with some comfort about CGC grading consistency. Individually and as a group we may occasionally disagree with the grade CGC has given a book(s) in this contest, but I for one am sure that I have "missed the mark" on some books a lot more than CGC has. Let me know that would provide what you're looking for (if not, it's getting late and I have a headache, so that's my excuse )
  9. Five more of my Superman comics:
  10. Creepy # 43- January 1972 According to the Warren Magazine Index: Cover: Ken Kelly (Jan. 1972) 1) Creepy’s Loathsome Lore: The Golden Sun Disk Of The Incas [T. Casey Brennan/Richard Corben] 1p [frontis] 2) Three-Way Split [Dennis P. Junot/Jorge Galvez] 8p 3) The Mark Of Satan’s Claw [Fred Ott/Jaime Brocal] 10p 4) The Men Who Called Him Monster [Don McGregor/Luis Garcia] 14p 5) 1971 Comicon Awards Go To Frazetta And Goodwin… [?/?] 3p [text article w/photos] 6) Quest Of The Bigfoot [R. Michael Rosen/Jerry Grandenetti] 6p 7) Creepy’s Fan Club: Richard Corben Profile/The Last Vampire/Now I Know/Friend Or Fiend?/The Realm Of The Mind/Wanted: A Husband/Unwelcome Visitor [Richard Corben, David Yeske, Rich Cook, Joe Letts, Christopher Caliendo, James Olcott, L. T. Simon & Wayne Carter/Richard Corben, Atherton, Steven Assel, Solano Lopez, Ramiro Bujeiro & Tim Boxell] 2p [text article/stories] 8) Mirage [Gerry Conway/Felix Mas] 8p Notes: The highlight of this issue was Don McGregor’s script and Luis Garcia’s {in his Warren debut} artwork for ‘The Men Who Called Him Monster’. The story may also have featured the first inter-racial kiss in comic history, which only came about because the artist misunderstood McGregor’s instructions for that panel. The lead character in that story was physically modeled after actor Sidney Poitier. The 1971 Warren Awards went to Frank Frazetta for best cover from Vampirella #7, best script to T. Casey Brennan for ‘On The Wings Of A Bird’ from Creepy #36, best art to Jose Gonzalez for ‘Death’s Dark Angel’ from Vampirella #12, best all around writer to Archie Goodwin for his work on Vampirella and best all around artist to Wally Wood. Solano Lopez was already a South American professional when his sample work ended up on the fan page. The fan page also undergoes a slight retitling while Tim Boxell, who would do quite a lot of underground and alternative comics, made his comics debut there. _______________________________________________________________ Not a lot to say before looking at the issue as the reading club enters 1972. I've had a very hectic weekend, so I may be a day or two later than usual getting my thoughts on the issue posted here. But if you have thoughts on the issue, big or small, you don't need to wait for me to start the discussion.
  11. This is stupid logic. The majority of the supply for the Ramos variant is the 9.8. Not so for the NM 98/UF4. Any grade 9.6 or less Spider-Man 7 (1st Spider-Boy) Ramos cover sells for a loss because there is more than enough supply in 9.8. UF4 has 26% in 9.8. New Mutants 98 has 17% in 9.8. The Ramos variant has 90% in 9.8. It is a dead spec.
  12. New today. I see 2 redheads on the cover.
  13. Galaxycon has a couple of graded books signed by the entire cast expect for Patrick Stewart. The pricie might be a little high but I don’t think it’s outrageous. https://galaxycon.com/products/star-trek-the-next-generation-1-dc-comics-cgc-signature-series-4-0-cast-x9-signed-dorn-crosby-de-lancie-burton-sirtis-spiner-frakes-mcfadden-wheaton?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=d4dfc2508&pr_rec_pid=8154574258344&pr_ref_pid=8160797294760&pr_seq=uniform
  14. Came in yesterday, CGC 6.5, and my favorite Piracy cover.
  15. Today
  16. He’s said the intends to end the story at issue 75. I hope he goes back to the well for more or it’s going to be a rough stop.
  17. I vote now because I think I actually have enough entries now to join the list! (although seriously, whenever is best for you - your work is super appreciated)
  18. Good thing too! Leaves less money for destructive personal habits.
  19. The Confessions of a Pimp. By Nick G. As told to Jon Fowler. Pad Library NT 819. Cover art uncredited. You know it's a job like any other. Someones got to do it
  20. Hibou

    Digital Staples.

It was back before the EndoftheWorld when we all saw the world shut down over a (suspicious) "pandemic". Maybe that was the day that the music died. No. Actually, the king still lives here...
  21. That was right around the time I was gettin' born in Queens Borough, N.Y.
