  1. I used to put three bronze age books into one silver age bag and they held up pretty good. But they also need to be stored in a full box to avoid drooping and bending.
  2. Thanks, everyone! For some reason, I didn't receive notification that anyone responded to this post, so I went ahead and sent it in without a press. I'll post the results when I get it back. Hopefully the staple will still be attached.
  3. Thanks for everyone who responded. I decided not to have this one sent to CGC. But I will be sending in the Batman 3. I'll post the results of that book as soon as I get it back.
  4. This book has a large spine roll and the bottom staple is popped. I don't think I will be sending it in for a press because I'm afraid the top staple will pop. What do you guys think? Should I have it pressed? Also, what grade would you give it as is? Thanks-
  5. Tape on spine. Stamps all over the cover, large crease on lower corner of book which is hard to see in the photo. Lots of other issues. What do you think?
  6. It's sad seeing all these artists I grew up with moving on. This newer generation of artists just doesn't compare with what we had.
  7. I'm going to bring up Star Wars. I know many are saying "Hey that's a movie! We're talking about comics!" Well, just mark that as another unpopular opinion of mine, because Star Wars holds an impressive share of the comic market today. I was 16 when the movie came out. I lived through the long theater lines and hype on the Six-o clock News. My friends and I waited two weeks before going to avoid the crowds. Was the wait worth it? Yeah. Was it the best Sci-Fi movie to ever hit the theaters? What?? No way guys. Sorry, but the movie was not worth the hype. Now I don't hate the movie, it was good. It had groundbreaking effects (for six months anyway) and a fantastic soundtrack from John Williams. That victory march at the end, when they all receive their medals is such an iconic ending. Even though it didn't really end there. I just never to this day understood the hype. Darth Vader was just Doctor Doom in space. The Storm Troopers were a gang of that never spent a day at target practice. The Term "May the Force be with you" is just silly!! The Wookie looked like a character from Sesame Street. (Look up an old short film called "Hardware Wars". You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kiss three buck's goodbye) Close Encounter of the Third Kind came out only six months later, and the special effects in that movie surpassed the effects in Star Wars by leaps and bounds. Ok I'm carrying on too long about the movie. But that movie spawned what we have today. TV Shows, Cartoons, Toys and Comics. Yes, Comics, Comics, and more Comics! Spec, Spec, and more spec! Is all this Star Wars hype still confusing to me? Yes, yes and yes!!
  8. My father was in the Air Force, so we moved around about every three or four years. We were stationed on Elmendorf AFB in Alaska when I first found comics. They were sold on base, on the ground floor of the Hospital. I was the youngest of four, so getting comics was hard to do at the time. Now and then I would pick up a Sad Sack or Richie Rich. My older brother was into Marvel, but his books were like soap operas. Peter is in love with Gwen. Boooring.... Of course, as I got older, I fell in love with Marvel. Particularly the Hulk, and was surprised to discover he was in a team. The first Marvel run I ever owned was Defenders 15-19. I still have a lot of love for those two storylines and the covers are classic. (To me) Over the years I have collected on and off, and one of my regrets is not buying ASM 192. The Black Cat was just a rip-off of Catwoman from D.C. I thought. I also skipped Daredevil 158. There was a lot of hype on Marvel's letter page, but flipping through it I thought the art was awful. Two years later I finally got the hype. Does anyone one else remember seeing a key book on the racks and not buying it? I would feel better knowing that I wasn't the only one.
  9. I seem to remember reading in one of the Overstreet guides (way back when I was still a teenager) that collectors liked them because the inserts supported the book and kept them in better shape. I know that when I was buying them, they were not displayed in comic racks but rather on magazine racks. So, they usually wouldn't have that top staple crease that the comic racks gave them. Somehow the focus shifted to rarity. I don't get the interest myself.
  10. My advice would be to stop worrying about getting the best amount for your books and consider how much better you would feel if your debt was paid off. Is their interest on your debt? If so, why wait? I had to sell a few books recently to pay $2500 in car repairs, and I hate selling my books. But honestly, I don't miss them. Although none of the books I sold were major keys.
  11. Manufacturing errors are usually ignored by CGC. There are some non-color breaking creases along the spine though. It's hard to say if a pressing would bring to 9.8. You would need to look very closely at the book and decide for yourself if you want to have it pressed.
  12. I went over my grades changing them around. I should have known better to do that. More Fun 102 5.5 4.0 +5 Harvey Library 3.5 +3 TTA11 6.0 +2 Spidey 38 6.0 5.0 +2 HOS 92 5.5 12 points total.
  13. This was my thought as well. It's obviously been amateurishly pressed at some time. Maybe the waviness was created by excessive heat? Still, it's a nice book, I will take the word of the owner that no other restoration has been done. I would give it a 5.0 maybe a 5.5.
  14. Just my opinion but with the rusty staples and water damage I would think it will grade lower. Around 2.0-2.5. You have to grade key books! it's in the comic collector bylaws.
  15. I get it on the frndly tv app. There is a small monthly subscription of 6.99 for it though.
  16. When you get 7 points for the first two books you know it's going to be a bad day. Wow #1 3.0 Action Comics #253 2.5 Avengers #48 7.5 X-Men #107 9.2 Star Wars #68 9.6 Well on the bright side, today was World Naked Gardening Day and my yard looks fantastic!
