Just saw that ASM #51 Universal CGC 9.6 sold for nearly 4K (and the book didn't even have pure white pages) - and it's only 2000 points, would it be fair to bump it up to 3000 points (a pedigree #51 9.6 has sold for more than 7k)? Amazing Spider-man #52 9.6 is just 800 points - it makes no sense - here's the lastest GPA for 9.6: I'd greatly appreciate a more reasonable score, thanks Mollie

I only collect issues 1 to 10, I don't have #12, did you mean another issue? All my issues are graded 9.8, except for #4 (9.6).

My 5 books were received 9/18, I'm getting some of them pressed, so I probably get them in 2020! (the status just says "Received")

I thought I was the only one to buy books in Nov, wrap them up, put my own name on them and put them under the Christmas tree

I'm not sure I've lost interest, but I'm close to completing several of my runs - or the books/mags I'm missing are so extremely rare that I'm more or less out of buying options. Feels like I'm a lonely spider in the web, the time between great meals just keeps increasing... Maybe it's a good thing with more time for saving up for bigger and better things - unless prices increase with the same speed I'm saving up

Couldn't agree more. I've just asked Scott and Dena to move and unlock all my journals - I've asked them to move my journals to different sub-forums, so the journals will probably be scattered around the entire forum. I've deleted all the new "migrated journals", I figured I'm not going to continue in that format anyway (and kind of depressing to start with a view count of 0) - so for now none of my journals are migrated, they're just locked. BTW, locking old threads aren't very stimulating - it gives you the impression that such threads are a burden and unappreciated - in fact it got me to think if it's time to quit and do something else - and I wouldn't be surprised if Doc Joe is thinking exactly the same (I'm sure he's aware of what's happening right now). I believe that the moderators were trying to be nice and to help us with the transition to a new improved and much better place, unfortunately that was not at all what their members/customers wished for. There're several small sub-forums in here with few readers/visitors, I'd love to keep "old journals" one of them - and feel free to close it when new posts haven't been written for 3 months ;-)

I'm not fond of the new journal format too. Personally I don't understand the need to move (=kill) all these nice old journals (Doc Joe's journal has more than 600,000 views) - these journals have taken countless of hours to make and some during many years. Would it really hurt to keep the old journals forum in respect to the boardies who spent so much time writing them? - Especially when new journals can't be created and thus the "old journals forum" is no competitor to the new journal format? I think the old journals are a fun part of the CGC Forums' history that should be honored. Scattering the old journals over a lot of CGC forums will just make them harder to find for readers, I don't see any advantage to that solution. Or - if it's really needed - maybe all old journals could be moved to "Personal announcements and topics" and unlocked? - I don't feel these nice old journals really fit in other CGC forums.

I think it's free to become a new member - are you completely sure you need to purchase anything? BTW - forgot the take home message - This year it's normal to have 1,481 (from 244 to 9,080) Registry points. This corresponds to the median (the middle value if you rank all Registry scores from the lowest to the highest - thus 50% had more than 1,481 points, and 50% had less). The numbers 1,481 (244 - 9,080) correspond to the median and its associated 25th and 75th quartiles, thus the middle 50% of all members had from 244 til 9,080 points. If you have less or more you're abnormal Although in here it seems that many collectors take pride in being abnormal to the max (What's normal is usually defined as the average plus or minus one standard deviation, like it's normal to have an IQ of 100 (85 - 115), because 1 standard deviation is 15. Using median values, because - unlike IQ measurements in the population - Registry points are not normally distributed, normal values are typically reported as the median and the associated 25th and 75 percentiles.)

Has it been a year already? Sigh... Guess it's time to do the math once more - the results I know you've all been waiting for! Interestingly, it's become much harder to enter top 1 % and 5 %, and slightly harder to fit into other categories. Just to stay where you were last year may have required some effort. In just 1 year it's become 80,000 points harder to be in the top 1 % - and 8,000 points harder to be in the top 5 % - and 1,500 points harder to be in the top 25 %. We might be seeing the effect of updated scores in the Registry, previous years most books were not updated. Guess I'm lucky to still be in the top 5 - gotta start focusing more on books than art, or I'll be completely left in the dust (Note that calculating average scores don't make sense here, because the distribution is extremely skewed. I wouldn't be surprised if the top 1 % has more Registry points than the remaining 99 %... Using average scores would be like placing Bill Gates among 10 homeless persons and then ask: what's the average income of a person in this group? - And then conclude it's a gathering of billionaires; thus average scores don't work well in such cases.) The Registry hasn't been gaining many new members the last year - here's an overview: From 2014 to 2015: 11% more Registry members (=464 new members) From 2015 to 2016: 8 % more Registry member (= 359 new members) From 2016 to 2017: 5 % more Registry members (= 247 new members) From 2017 to 2018: 6 % more Registry members (= 305 new members) Still, more members were gained the last year compared to the year before, and this may be nice to know for the CGC. Thank you (all :-) - I hope my descriptions aren't too boring - I think it's great that CGC shows appreciation for such a limited magazine collection. Actually I'm not sure that my mag presentations are that great; I'm wondering if the CGC also gave me the award to show some appreciation for the Savage Sword of Conan magazines, given that my set isn't complete, and currently no one has been able to collect the first 100 issues in a set (I had high hopes for Topnot (Al) to do this, but I'm not sure he prioritizes his set much these days - at least he sold #12 some months ago on eBay).
