  1. No better place to look than with the artist himself. Adam Hughes is offering an 18 x 24 color copic marker Vampirella cover for sale. Check his website or CAF directly. Cheers! N.
  2. Are you volunteering to organize a boardie dinner at Shun Lee West near Lincoln Center? The food is okay for upscale Chinese American but it's great if you can get the private party room. With Stan Lee and Frank Miller, the show should be packed and the venue hotter than ever, (pun intended) since the show is BYOAC. I will probably skip this show as it does seem more like a Wizard show than comic show. Cheers! N.
  3. fyi - NJ Transit bus # 320 from Port Authority bus terminal (bus located at gate 213) in NYC will drop you off in front of the expo center. The bus stop returning to NYC is 1 block away from the expo center. I've attended the last 2 years. Great guests for a small venue. I can't wait. Cheers! N.
  4. whoops! TYPO on my average cost per page. I rushed that post before leaving the apt. $160K / 20 pages = $8K per page. Any dealer would be able to get more than $8K in trade per page. I'll take the over on $8K per page for that lot. My estimate on the splash itself is speculative but I also think the buyer will eventually keep the splash. My head is actually clearer now at 4 am e.s.t. than when I first posted. Lol. Cheers! N.
  5. Everyone has different opinions but I am suprised at Yoram's dislike of Kirby since the "blockiness" of his style has heavily influenced one of his favorites, Romita Jr. Romita Jr.'s artistic style is closer to Kirby than to Romita Sr. I would also state that the quality of the finished artwork of both Kirby and Romita Jr. are heavily dependent on their inkers. Which brings me to the picks of the Shoveler .... the only person thus far to list artists that are primarily inkers albeit finishers in certain instances. I can only assume the Shoveler is also an inker. Sometimes we as fans, forget the importance of a quality inker. Well played my friend. Cheers! N.
  6. IMHO I fully expect the BWS Conan full story to: 1) break $160K. 20K average per page? I'll take the over. I'm usually low on my estimates but there are a ton of BWS Conan fans out there and this certainly hits the nostalgic sweet spot. 2) the book will be broken up. A dealer can easily get quality trade greater than 20K per page average. 3) the buyer will keep the splash. Even though BWS doesn't peak until the Red Sonja Red Nails issues where he inks his own work, the splash page of issue # 6 looks pretty darn sweet. I value the splash higher than the aforementioned 30 - 40K estimate. For full disclosure, I DO NOT know who the consignor is nor do I own any BWS art. Good luck to all. Cheers! N.
  7. When I started this thread, I knew there was never going to be a right or wrong answer. Everyone has their personal list of favorites and most influential artists and creators. Everyone is exposed to different genres from different eras. Europeans are exposed to different artists than Americans or Canadians. Someone between the ages of 15 through 30 may not yet have been exposed to artists from earlier generations such as McKay, Herriman, Foster, Crumb, Moebius, etc. I would like to thank everyone that has participated so far. There are names of artists listed that I may not be so familiar with but will certainly take time to research. This is what makes the hobby great. Keep the lists coming. Cheers! N.
  8. Which comic book artists are in your "Mt. Rushmore" ? For those of you not familiar with Mt. Rushmore, it is a mountain located in South Dakota, U.S.A. where the faces of 4 U.S. Presidents were carved onto the face of the mountain (George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln). So who are YOUR top 4 comic book artists of all time? Please remember, this is a top 4 list only. Lol. 1) Jack "King" Kirby He was called the King for a reason. Co-creator of the most iconic characters in comics history. 2) Neal Adams First artist to usher in the hyper realism when drawing comics. I don't think the classic Denny O'Neill / Neal Adams drug stories from Green Lantern / Green Arrow would have had the same impact if the art was cartoony. Neal's art made the stories more gritty. 3) Will Eisner His art was amazing but with "The Spirit", he took storytelling to a new level. The pacing of his stories, the multi-panel pages. If you thought Frank Miller was good, who do you think influenced him? Imagine if Will Eisner wrote and drew Batman? 4) ........ the first 3 spots were easy. The last spot may have to go to Bernie Wrightson simply because of his work on Frankenstein. No doubt, the best pen and ink work I have ever seen. Good luck in trying to narrow down your list. Cheers! N.
  9. Is it too early for me to ask who has an extra exhibitor badge for 2017? Cheers! N.
  10. How about getting sellers to actually post their prices when advertising here? If they can't bother to list their prices, why should anyone bother to contact them? Cheers! N.
  11. Are the current pieces inked in marker, India ink or combo? Cheers! N.
  12. GL 76 vs. ASM 98 If I had to choose, I would take the ASM cover (forgetting about $ value). I grew up reading both comics and followed both artists. I always thought Adams GL art was far superior than his art on Batman. Spider-man is my favorite character but I read all genres and love all artistic styles. Adams realistic style made his art jump out but Kane was a better cover designer in terms of layout. I'm a guy that appreciates artists that draw backgrounds and perspective. If I look at the ASM cover, the art speaks for itself. No word balloons are needed. The GL cover has speed lines for backgrounds and word balloons are needed. Even with the word balloons, you still don't know what's going on. I love covers where the villain has the upper hand. It simply makes you want to buy the comic. Isn't that the benchmark of a great cover? Once nostalgia kicks in, GL may get more votes because of the storyline, not the art itself. Isn't the storyline why Watchmen art is highly collected when the art itself is okay but not great. My 2¢. Thankfully we all have different tastes in art. Congratulations to all buyers and sellers. Cheers! N.
  13. Someone with the time and inclination should create a poll to pick their favorite variant. As far as my least favorite, it might actually be the drawing by FM himself. When did Batman have the ability to transform himself to a chupacabra? Cheers! N.
  14. I finally went through the entire OA auction preview. This auction certainly has the breadth and depth. Something for all collectors. It certainly looks like several collectors were liquidating significant parts of their collections including Jim Lee. Good luck to all. Cheers! N.
  15. I would have expected the artists to offer the specific comic book shops the right of first refusal since the variant covers were published exclusively for specific shops. Perhaps the prices were too high for the store owners. Cheers! N.
  16. Don't worry, there will be a Miller signed and numbered edition at some point. DC will wait to see what the fan reaction to the series is first.
  17. Most collectors will see all the variant covers through this thing we call the internet. The limited edition deluxe leather bound hardcover signed and numbered by Frank will surely include all the variants. The fact that we are previewing and discussing specific covers when the comics have not been released yet tells you of the interest of fans from the original series. The panning of DK2 doesn't diminish the anticipation of Frank Miller's "next" project. DC is of course hedging it's bet by teaming him up with a co-writer and having someone else handle the artistic chores. I didn't see any variant covers with a DK2 theme or anything hinting at DK3. The variant covers themselves are flashbacks to the original DK series in an attempt to evoke nostalgia. It will be interesting to see what the next wave of variants will look like. Cheers! N.
  18. Was Finch's cover inked or shot from the pencils? It's a nice cover. One of the better ones that I've seen so far. DC is really milking the variant covers ....... only 3,567 more to go. It's obvious that many collectors are looking for a quick flip / investment. The artists know this so why shouldn't they charge as much as possible. Cheers! N.
  19. So when is Heritage planning to break out the good stuff? Do you think I have time to consign my Time Beavers pages? It will be interesting to see in what order the OA gets auctioned off. Cheers! N.
  20. I would not pay full market value. If I were to buy a complete issue, I would expect a discount. Cheers! N.
  21. I'm not sure how the rumours started but when in doubt, just go with what Marvel published inside the comic as credits. Marvel was accurate with DD and Wolverine. I don't see why the credits for the What If? title would be off. Now for other databases like GCD, it's possible you have typos when they try to take info from each comic and enter it onto a computer. In other situations, you may have a Marvel in house staff artists do corrections (I.e., Romita Sr. , Marie Severin). These are "uncredited" as they are considered minor editorial changes. So give Marvel the benefit of the doubt and look at the credits inside the comic. Cheers! N.
  22. It was great catching up with fellow comic geeks at NYCC. Just a quick clarification on the copies of Miller's pencils on Wolverine ...... OT I have pages from issues # 1 and # 3. Gene referencd it as issue #1 only. The combined pile was a few pages from each issue. The art has detailed layouts throughout with notations from FM to both Joe Rubenstein and Chris Claremont. Joe should be given props for being the finisher but Miller clearly did detailed layouts on the entire series. From the very beginning, FM drew Logan as Clint Eastwood. The pages from issue # 3 also show FM drawing Logan's face very clearly. Now back to DD ..... Cheers! N. P.S. I have some copies of FM pencils from # 191. FM did detailed layouts not full pencils. Austin did finishes.
  23. TEST http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1164360 Photocopy of FM pencils from Wolverine 1 page 1. Compare it with the picture posted by Ferran. FM notes on side say "I'm a hunter". I took picture of photocopy with my basic digital camera. Cheers! N.
