55-59: Batman and The Mad Monk 2-6 (DC Limited '06)
60-72: The Twelve 1/2-12 (Marvel Limited '08)
73-78: Moon Knight 10-15 (Marvel '80)
I'm underperforming. Got to pick up the pace!
Batman and the Mad Monk was solid. True detective story with Batman a mere mortal relying on his wits. Creepy vampire cult are the bad guys.
Picked the Twelve from a recommendation in this thread. Started with issue 1/2 that I thought was a prequel introducing the new characters. For the whole book I was thinking "Great job creating a modern book that looks and feels exactly like a golden age comic from the 40s!". Well, that's because I'm an insufficiently_thoughtful_person and these were actual Timely reprints with heroes I had never heard of before that Marvel was reviving to appear in The Twelve. Doh! The 12 issue series was really enjoyable. Straczynski weaves a fun tale about 12 GA heroes who are put into suspended animation by the Nazis and wake up in 2008 to resume their crime fighting careers for the government. A poor man's Watchmen. The art by Weston was quite good. Like Secret Wars last month, I wanted more here. This could have been an ongoing series for years and I would have supported it.
Moon Knight is now fully confused about who he is and where his power comes from. Moench has embraced this aspect of Marc Spector's personalities in a big way. Finally we have the first hero guest star in an issue with Daredevil. Other than that, the first 15 issues have been Moon Knight against the freak of the month club. No established super villains. Issue 15 jumps from 50 cents to 75 with no ads. This was a direct sales only title going forward.

This MTU 141 notation is wrong, and the notations for ASM 252 and PPTSSM 90 are also wrong and add to fandom's general confusion about the black suit early releases.
This book is listed as tying with ASM 252, but that is incorrect. I remember buying ASM 252 first when it came out. MTU 141 and SSM 90 came out the same month, but not the same day or week as 252. I can't remember for sure, but I think those others came out on the same day together, but after 252. MTU and SSM 90 could mention that they tie for 2nd black suit appearance, but ASM 252 should have that honor all to itself.
Go collect verifies my memory on this topic with a blurb: "This week, we see Marvel Team-Up #141 making waves as it broke into the top 100 best sellers. Released days after Amazing Spider-Man #252, MTU #141 is tied with Spectacular Spider-Man #90 for the second overall appearance of the black suit that would later become Venom".
Anybody have the exact release dates for these books?
Edit: The release dates on some Go collect reference pages for these issues are wrong. They list dates in April and May which make no sense for books with a cover date of May.
Looked up the exact release dates of these 3 books on mikesamazingworld.com and they reflect what I remember from childhood when I bought them:
ASM 252 - January 31 1984
MTU 141 - February 14 1984
SSM 90 - February 14 1984
Here is another site that verifies those same release dates:
http://www.kleefeldoncomics.com/2022/07/irl-chronology-of-spideys-black-suit.html?m=1
So, Spidey 252 was first all by itself. That label should be corrected to reflect that.
MTU 141 and SSM 90 came out 2 weeks later on the same day. Both of those labels should be corrected to say: Ties for 2nd black suit appearance with...
It is disappointing that the chronology around such an important event in Marvel history is flat out wrong on all 3 of these labels. Hopefully they can be corrected going forward.
@CGC Mike Any update on this request from 6 months ago?

45-49: Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness 1-5 (Marvel/Dynamite limited 2007)
50-53: Robocop vs. Terminator 1-4 (Dark Horse limited 1992)
54: Batman and Mad Monk 1 (DC Limited 2006)
Ok, so I'm into multi-company crossovers this week!
Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness was a blast from start to finish. Ash was funny and well written throughout. Enjoyed this.
Robocop vs. Terminator was Frank Miller at his peak powers, fresh off helping write the Robocop 2 screenplay. Simonson's art was even Miller-like. This time, Robocop is responsible for accidentally creating the Terminators, and he goes about trying to remedy this. Enjoyable for a fan of the franchises.
Will discuss Batman when I finish it.

Too much scribbling on the covers, or I may have considered it.

Doc Savage 1975 Marvel Magazine Lot of 8 (1-8) – the complete run. Doug Moench stories really capture the spirit of the old pulps with art by John Buscema, Tony DeZuniga and Ernie Chan among others. Very entertaining, self-contained one-issue stories (some are50 pages long) though you have to overlook Monk occasionally being drawn like The Hulk. Books are in great condition, opened a few and noted some apparently with W pages (so I’ll call them OW/W pages), little to no spine ticks and sharp corners. Some/all should easily make VFN or better so I’ll call them FN+ instead. FREE BONUS: Double-Doc Savage story Bantam paperback book will be included. Asking 60.00 shipped.

There were quite a lot of tie-in mini-series about the different sectors of Doom’s world, a large number of them very good reads. Impossible to incorporate all of it into that main story arc.
Overall, Omnibus material.
That makes sense, and I never considered all the tie-in! Thanks.

Green Lantern by Grant Morrison Season 1 Volume 1 - the back of the book blurb proclaimed this to be a psychodelic hit. I found nothing psychodelic about it, except for the GL with the exploding volcano head, I guess. Still, it was a decent read, and I intend to buy further volumes further down the track.
Rereads of Transformers #5, Thundercats #1. Still can't get used to Tygra's moustache. It's just wrong. Transformers is just a quality read. It deserves to be on everyone's pull list, Transformers fan or not, it's THAT good.
Green Lantern Kyle Rayner Compendium - now we're talking. This started at Emerald Twilight and went from there. Same material as was in the single volumes they released, I rebought it just to show support and hopefully lead to more of Kyle's run getting modern reprints. I'd love to see his whole series collected in Compendium form, tbh. I loved it so much at the time. Just good, classic comics.
Justice hardcover - this is pretty decent, if not a bit too much into the Super friends for me, who were before my time, so I don't get the nostalgia huffs from it. Still it's enjoyable enough, with some decent twists. Is it just me or is some of Ross' art a bit muddy looking in this book?
That puts me up to 495 books read for the year, and you won't hear from me for awhile, as now I'm starting on the Johns Green Lantern omniboo. I've read everything in the first 2 before (I dropped the book precisely where book 2 finishes, which works out perfectly I'd say, leaving me with book 3 as all-new material) so I'm very keen to get to book 3, which is still enroute, but will have no doubt arrived by the time I'm ready for it.
For Justice, Ross only did the finished art on top of Doug Braithwaite, so let's blame him if some of it wasn't "Ross" enough for you.

I am falling ridiculously behind some of you guys! Need to step it up.
35-36: Legends 5-6 (DC Limited '86)
37-44: Secret Wars 2-9 (Marvel Limited '15)
Legends was still fun for me all these many years later. Wonder Woman was rebooted for this before the '87 Perez series. Also got to see the origin of the Suicide Squad and mini reboots for Shazam and Flash after Crisis on Infinite Earths. This is the kind of stuff that had me hooked in the 80s, and I guess I never outgrew it.
Finished Secret Wars and it was a disappointment for me. After the first issue, it showed real promise. Doom has created a new Battleworld in the aftermath of worlds/multiverses colliding. It was cool seeing all the familiar faces in their new roles on this world and some really epic places were hinted at early that I looked forward to exploring. The problem was that we never got to explore them. This felt rushed and needed to be twice as long. The ending was unsatisfying and anticlimactic. Some really interesting ideas were explored so I'm not saying it was terrible, but I wanted more, not less. The Marvel Zombies were there and we barely noticed. Oh well.

79-84: Green Lantern: Rebirth 1-6 (DC Limited '04')
This was entertaining all around. Story revolves around Hal Jordan and how he deals with being intertwined with the Spectre, and some old enemies that come calling. Mysterious badness starts happening to his super-friends on earth, and all heck soon breaks loose. All Hal's earth-based Lantern buddies get involved and lend a hand. We also get to see the JLA and JSA. Couldn't ask for much more in a DC mini. The writing and art are both excellent.
Going to keep this power ring charged and read the Sinestro Corps War next!
