  1. I have been off these boards for a few years and like a previous poster said, I also found this site by googling "Robojo" who I had purchased a book from (I know, you're supposed to do it the other way around). Anyways, I found this little community of addicts, and joined to get some feedback and advice. I have been catching up on a lot of the threads today and came across this one which seemed a good place to re-introduce myself and get re-acquainted By the way, the book I bought from Danny (Perry?) came back with a blue label, just over graded by him. I ended up selling it on Comiclink last year and broke even. Wish I had the same luck with a few other books I bought from other infamous sellers.
  2. Anybody old enough to remember Henry Fonda doing Viewmaster commercials? (and please don't say "who's Henry Fonda"?)
  3. Oh snap, so what was the price, The Price?! Well I ended up going in on the collection (about 3,000 books or so) with a collector friend and we paid $2,000 for the lot.We sold some of it off, but kept most of the best stuff. Now dividing it up- that was the hard part! But it looks like I just got upstaged by the AF15 story- now I have to say "wow" to that.
  4. This find doesn't exactly fit the criteria for this thread, but it was such a fantastic collection of books I happened upon earlier this year that I had to share it. The story is that I was in a local comic store buying some bags and boards when a guy approaches me who said he overheard me mention that I had just bought some comics from someone. He then said he had several thousand comics that he would like to sell as they were taking up so much space in the house. I felt a little awkward as the store manager was also standing right there, but this fellow then says that he had offered the collection to them first (the store) and they had declined. I said definitely I would like to see them. When i go to this guys house a few days later, I arrive to find several boxes filled with dozens of large manilla envelopes, each labeled with a comic title and list of the run in that particular envelope- I soon realized that this guy had nearly every Marvel title and book printed between 1967 and 1976, or so. It was like Christmas morning when I was a kid as I opened envelope after envelope, discovering key books, high grade books, and nearly complete runs of books. We made a deal and I bought them. I doubt that I will ever top this find. These are the more notable books: [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] :
  5. What auction was that? At that price, it will be a Looong time before I upgrade mine (which is a raw 2.5 to 3.0) Just a beautiful book you have there.
  6. Would it be rude to ask what you paid for this book? (wish i could afford one in this grade-nice book!)
  7. [/img] [/img] I hope this is a little better.Page color is surprisingly nice, about off-white.No other tears or missing pieces. I am not a Golden Age guy, but I recognize a pretty nice find when I see one.And owning such an early Action is just pretty cool!- Just hope it wasn't trimmed or restored...
  8. Sorry-I am not sure why my scanner cut off the edge-I will try to rescan. This book wasn't one of the books advertised for sale-There were a few boxes of later books (Bronze,Modern and a few Silver) but when i went to see those, the seller mentioned that there were a few older books in a separate suitcase of her father's that she had found. Among those were this book, a Wonder comics #9, a Boy Comic #19 and a Captain Marvel #38.I had to ask her to look again and see if there were any more (unfortunately not). The spine is torn to the staple, top and bottom.
  9. [/img] Hi all, I haven't been on these boards for quite awhile, but came across this book this week from a craigslist seller. I was looking for a thread here to get some feedback from about it, and this looks like the perfect group. I tried to check it as best as I could for any restoration, and couldn't find any (not that I am that qualified to spot any). The biggest flaw is that it has a split spine at the top and bottom, although the section between the staples is fine. What do you all think? I thought better to show it here than the "Buddy can you spare a grade" thread.
