  1. For the sake of posterity, here is the ASM #101 under discussion:
  2. So you run when I ask you questions? I bow out when the question is meaningless to the situation at hand. You hear what you want to hear, see what you want to see, and spend what you want to spend. If you think an ASM colored in pink marker is a fine investment after all the advice you've been given then my continued participation is clearly meaningless. Out.
  3. What grade do you think it is? It looks to me like a 4.0 or so without the pink drawing on it, so I'd say Meeklo wasn't far off. Yes I'm grading it as a 4.0/4.5 because I don't see anything in the grading guide that says otherwise I'm not going to hold back on this post but do you have a freaking clue at all? That book is not even close to a 4.0 WITHOUT THE PINK ALL OVER IT. You've been here for years and think that could possibly be a 4.0/4.5. You don't have a clue how to grade at all. Without the pink it's a 2.5, 3.0 at best. It's a 1.8/2.0 with the pink. Stop wasting your money. Sell video games or stick to graded books, but you sir have no idea how to grade. If I got that book in a collection I'd put it out for $5.00. Jim I agree that with the substantial writing on the cover this grades out to be a 1.8, 2.0 at the most. Gabe, you really need to reconsider this a side job or whatever you call it because you are not only a horrible business person but you clearly do not know what you're doing. I disagree I may not be perfect at grading but I'm not terrible at it as you say. When I come across these things I still struggle deciding what grade they are but if if has common defects then I don't. You call it writing and I'm calling it something else maybe that's why we're apart on the grades. You don't know what you're doing unless someone guides you along and even then you find ways to screw things up. If you don't call that substantial writing then what do you call it? I call it amateur color touch and I've graded it at what I feel it is. If you lit your money on fire at least you'd get a little heat out of it as it burned. That'd be better than buying this book for a flip. If anyone had a lingering hope you've learned something you've effectively crushed it. You don't give me enough credit so I'll ask you this since it had a similar problem my tec 359 2.0 with drawings on it what do you think was the highest offer I received? Next answer what you think FMV for such a comic is. You're wrong, I don't give you any credit at all. You're either trolling the boards or you really are this clueless to randomly throw money you don't have at worthless books. The Hulk #180 was clearly a stroke of luck rather than a result of you having learned anything, otherwise you wouldn't have followed it up with this "flip" you're going to apparently try to misrepresent.

  5. That was a solid list, no argument there. In terms of celebs, the only two on my list would be Andrew Lincoln and Mark Hamill. Either or both would be strong draws, and you could obviously build the show around Hamill. Either would be easy to build around with other guests from those properties. In terms of comic guests, getting a good mix of veteran and newer talent would be ideal. Some of the folks that have done previous Irving shows (Len Wein, George Perez, Kelley Jones, Graham Nolan, Marv Wolfman, Mike Zeck, to name a few) would be great to see again. Someone like Neil Gaiman to headline would be beautiful, if I could dream (no pun intended).
  6. This is a terrible idea. How so? not arguing, just want to know your thoughts. To me it seems like a great idea. I think 3 shows is too many and kind of waters them all down. Also think that moving it to that date will lighten the competition for guests as they may/june time frame seems heavy with shows I would agree with this, even though I have never done the show. Spring is always a good time for shows, especially in the south. Nice time to travel. Most people have their tax refunds, so money tends to flow freely. I guess we will see how it goes. For me personally, travel at this time is more difficult and I don't know if they will get as many people able to travel to the show as they would in June. The Metroplex may be big enough that they don't need people to come in from a distance. Adding guests may or may not be a good thing. If you are into more and bigger guests that is obviously a plus. From a dealer perspective that means less money for people to spend with vendors. As these shows get more expensive to do that means less diversity in dealers overall, and very likely fewer comic dealers. The February show isn't a huge loss, I guess, but I was looking forward to it since I passed on heading down to the October show this year (too busy).
  7. I did buy it two weeks ago but it was more cost efficient to make a little pile of comics and have me send that then one or two at a time. Yeah, when iceman reminded me of that above I remembered that you did this. Does your friend open any of these packages to check condition, check pages, etc? You may not want months to go by before you figure out that some of these deals that were too good to be true actually were just that.
  8. Didn't you buy the Betty and Me like two weeks ago?
  9. And this is an additional variable we can't account for. If they print 8000 books and have a 1:10 incentive, we have no idea how many stores buy the needed 10 copies or the 100 copies. It is possible only 100 stores purchased 10 copies and nobody purchased 100 copies. Which by the ratio means only 100 of the 1:10 were put into circulation and 0 of the 1:100. This would lead to a perception of rarity since only 100 variants were released, but released is the key word. We have no idea how many were actually printed. The comic company may have anticipated that enough stores would order at least 10 copies to justify 800 copies and they printed 800, but there is no way to know. So now we have 700 books in existence that we have no way to know about or account for. Exactly. You hit on the salient point in the middle of your post. It could be summed up as: Words. Words. We have no idea how many were actually printed. More words.
  10. You don't have to, but I would find it interesting if you listed paid for / sold for as well. Up to you of course Sure Gwenpool Secret wars Paid $0 Sold for $15.22 Batman 361 Paid $1.31 Sold $2 Batman 365 Paid $1.31 Sold $2 Fees paid? I find it unlikely that all three sales prices after fees were exact dollar amounts. The gwenpool was a consignment and that's calculated after fees and the batman comics were brought from me outright so no fees or anything. That exact dollar amount is because I converted it to USD from CAD except the bats since they're from the long box I'm keeping that CAD for now Your commission on the Gwenpool book was $15.22? No that's what I got after fees and I got for it free which is why you see a zero is the buy column If the Gwenpool was a consignment what did you make on the book? If the book was yours it wasn't a consignment. If it was a consignment and you made $15.22 that would be your commission. If $15.22 was the sales price that wasn't what you got as a commission. Please clarify. Ok I'll do my best 1) I got the comic for free 2) I sold it for 20 CAD after consignment fees because I took it to my local lcs for him to sell 3) I converted from CAD into USD 4) It equaled $15.22 USD profit since I got this comic for free That makes sense. I thought you meant the book had been consigned to you to sell for a client. My mistake. How did you get it for free?

  13. Can you quantify how much more speculative his speculation is than your speculation? If not, then he has made his point.

  15. You don't have to, but I would find it interesting if you listed paid for / sold for as well. Up to you of course I asked this too, and he did it just the one time I asked. Gabe, please do this each time you post a purchase or sale for easy scorekeeping.
  16. How is buying anything reducing debt? Because if I buy something that I can make a profit on I'll quickly reduce debt as opposed to it taking forever. Unfortunately, I can see as you get more "deals" it'll improve your confidence which will cause you to be more wreckless with your purchase. You've already seen that with your previous purchases but after a few more good buys and sells you'll be back to thinking yourself as a baller again. If he was wreckless he probably wouldn't be in debt.
  17. No money? He sold comics to buy those. Comic money doesn't pay for doctors, silly, only more comics. Comic money doesn't pay back debt either, so rather than use it to fill the hole he'd already dug for himself, he spent it on other stuff.
  18. For $11? For 191 dollars so apparently no self control or budget anymore When has there ever been any of either?
