  1. Someone on the boards once said, "Wait until you get your first Timely, it's hard to stop." I can see what he meant.

Not to worry ... it gets worse. Then you get stuck in the GA Forum and start looking at other titles and publishers ... doomed I say.

It reminds me when our daughter was born. I'd go into the office and say that I can't get any sleep, I'm tired, she's consuming all my time, things are always going on with her. My co-worker looked at me without any sympathy whatsoever and said .. "it gets worse". So it is with Timely and other GA in general.

    Sweet book! (thumbs u

Thanks! With twin daughters that just turned two last week I can relate all too well to this analogy.

  2. nice..that 83 looks like a nice 6.5 :applause:

Thanks all; only run I own. I have a nice silver age/mostly Kirby run of Thor thru issue #181.

The 83 was a slabbed 6.0; one grader gave it a 6.5. They didn't like that pen mark between the "E" and "R". There is also a fugly 1/2 inch tear on the edge of the back cover.

For the most part the run is 6.0/6.5 to 9.0 getting better as the run progresses.

    Beautiful set Battle! :headbang:

Indeed a nice set. You're inspiring me to completion. I'm only 5 books away from completing my Thor JIM run. Can't wait to put the last few in the registry.

Hah! I also need 5 books to complete the run. I need 88, 92, 95, 96 and 100. I might upgrade some of the others, but that's the plan right now.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for you. What kind of condition are you looking for?

    I need 90, 91, 94, 95 and 119.

I'll do the same for you. I'm looking for 7.0 minimum books. You have a grade minimum? I know I've sold dupes of 90 and 119.

    Sent you a PM.

    Don't forget me! :baiting:

I'm after 9.0 graded copies and then my undercopies are expendable...

Other than my raw issue of 95 (in the VF-/VF range) all my undercopies are VG-FN-ish down to VG-ish in the lower issues...

    Wil do!

  6. what i can't figure out is that unless we find out there was some airborn/waterborn component to the zombie virus, why is this so hard to manage? these zombies can't figure out how to open up a locked door, why couldn't sharpshooters have picked these guys off day and night from the roof of a locked building or something? how do they manage to overrun military personnel with body armor, unlimited amo, tanks, etc.? why can't they be nepalmed?

You should read the book World War Z. (thumbs u

It's a great book. The book takes place after the zombie war. Each chapter is an interview with a survivor about the exact type of things you're asking about. Plus more.

    Stellar book!

  7. I think you hit the nail on the head. Based on your posts I'd say you are holding Kirkman the screenwriter accountable to the standards of Kirkman the comic writer. Totally understandable. It's hard not to. It is however a different genre and I think it might take him a season or two to catch his stride as a screenwriter.

That's a fair point. There are different things that have to be accomplished when writing for the screen. Plus, a screenwriter has the filter of the actors and their ability as well. I'm hopeful that the show will really come into its own during the 2nd-3rd seasons.

In the meantime, I'll try to celebrate that this incredible story is being shared with the rest of the world and hope everyone gets 1/10th the joy out of it that a lot of us have gotten out of the books.

    Very much agreed. (thumbs u

Thanks for the back and forth. I love having an actual dialogue on these kinds of topics. Many threads end in people just dumping on one another and their opinions. You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

  8. ...but most stories that are adapted for other forms of media usually do not live up to the original. 2c

And I think that is what I've been struggling with. I firmly believe I'd like the show more if I weren't a fan of the source material. And it sucks to say that. :(

  9. Also, I think they handled Amy's death pretty well. I was glad to see the transformation in Andrea. The opening scene last week of her and Amy sitting in the boat talking about fishing has been, hands down, the worst, most insipid piece of writing on the show so far. I can't even watch the scene again because of my distaste for it.

    I liked that scene. :shy:

I also liked that scene. For people that are unfamiliar with the source material it was how they established an emotional connection to these two characters. For my wife who has no idea who these people are it was an important scene. Without that scene her death would have been meaningless. Now if you have a problem with how the dialogue was written I can understand that. I thought it was also acted well by the two of them. 2c

  10. At least it was "only" $100.

    I'd be pizzed.

Next time you go to a show he is at, I'd take the sketch and stand by his table. Show the sketch to anyone that inquires him about a commission. Let them see what $100 + 3 years will get them.

ouch! now that would be fitting

I'd pitch in for you to rent a table at a con he is at and post this sketch and the whole thread. Then you could take donations to "Burn Bill." If you reach a set dollar amount (I'd shoot for a dollar for each day you waited) then you'll burn this sketch publicly. Then donate the proceeds to the Hero fund. Win, win, win.
