The usual big names are back logged and don't really want to take on any new work for resto removal. I have a few books with slight CT removal needs and I am looking for a weekend warrior, semi pro that can look them over and if confirmed as a good candidate hopefully give it a go for me. Seems like fairly small and easy work for someone with the experience and I do kind of know what to look for as reasonable removal (bleeding through both sides bad etc). Let me know if anyone out there can help me out or direct me to someone that can help me with this and hopefully is not back logged into 2024. Thanks!

Look at that lower staple from the back cover, if its not completely popped, its hanging on by a thread! Because of this and multiple spine ticks I had it at 8.0 and was being super generous with that sizable tear at the lower staple that is very nearly popped. This was the biggest whiff by CGC that I had seen in my opinion. You have to factor in a small bump on golden age books, so I was really close on the WOW at 4.5 and hit the other ones spot on.

Loony Toones did not just have wear at each corner, its freaking missing sizable pieces/chunks in 3 of the 4 corners! Rex shows a heck of a lot better than that book as its not missing sizable corner pieces in 3 of the 4 corners! Some imaginary stain on the bottom of the front cover is not visible from the scan, perhaps from the interior cover, but we don't have that benefit. I had those two grades flipped around and think the grades on those two books are literally loony tunes!

I thought they were tightening it up after the first round surprised me with no GA bumps and others fairly tight etc, so I tightened up way too far and over corrected this round with the exception of the JIM.

So much for easier grading on the Golden Age 10 cent books! Last competition I had that nailed, but this time around they graded them as tight or tighter than the silver age!

If you remove the staples all together, the book could still achieve as high as 3.0 with a detached cover, correct? Just a thought as a blue label 3.0 might be preferred to some than even a blue/gray 3.5 conserved label.

Never on a conserved book, but I have had trimming reversed on a restored book where its no longer noted on the label other than pieces replaced. Thus I think it would at least have a shot for a conserved label if you only did leaf casting and nothing else but I have never attempted it. For foolish Mortal, I can show you ample GPA prices that prove restoration can add significant value to some books like this one that already have issues like trimming etc. If it were unrestored 1.5/2.0 you would have an excellent point, but its already purple label and it would not take all that much work to drastically improve the grade/appearance on the bottom of that book and the rest of the book is already in high grade/amazing shape, so its a great candidate.

Why are they sticklers on not encapsulating a book that has overhang on an edge? I don't see how that damages the book any further? If going the full resto route, I am afraid leafcasting that small edge on all 16 pages pushes it to extensive.

I guess if we only did leaf casting & no color touch that it could potentially get a conservation label and it would not even be trimmed anymore since the leaf casting/conservation fixes that, that is an idea to consider.

So some of the more familiar names are all way back logged. I need someone decent at leaf casting that can add maybe 1/4-1/8" back to the bottom pages of a grail that had the bottom of the pages trimmed off, they can leaf cast the bottom of the cover also if they want, but I have a pro already going to do the bottom cover art for me, but he is old school rice paper only but still an amazing artist. Any suggestions? Of course perhaps that is too much work adding to all 16 pages since the cover just needs moderate/ext work to look 6.0+ range. Maybe I am better off just leaving the pages so the work does not bump past mod/ext and even with the trimmed bottom of the pages still hope for 4.5-5.0 range? Another option is just leaf casting the bottom of the first wrap only so it looks nice when you open it up, but then you still notice more how much the rest of the pages are missing? Essentially, I would like to max appearance and value/return without going full on extensive which is a big hit to the value, so suggestions from a leaf caster & those experienced at restoring & submitting restored books is appreciated.

Its either a 2.5 on a bad day or 3.0 on a good day.

I got 4 of 5 exact bulls eyes that last round instead of 5 of 5 the prior round. I had that FF50 lower to start but I swear it was 1/2 grade nicer than a 7.5 from earlier in the competition so I graded a tad generous at 8.0, but I am confident it is at least 7.5 at worst by many years comparisons. Too bad, man it would have been sweet to get two 5/5s in a row.

Half hour left to get final grades in, excited to see the final grades for comparison!

I hope I hit anywhere near last round!
