  1. I kept my collection in a storage unit for 10 years, no problems, maybe I got lucky. Additionally, I don't have a lot of high dollar books. One thing I consistently did, if I moved any boxes i would place four on a cart and place a larger empty box over the four so it appeared to be one large box and I pushed the cart into the unit before uncovering the four. I figured it was better than letting anyone see the short boxes of comics which someone might recognize as comic boxes. But I do agree with the OP that high dollar books probably shouldn't be in a storage unit.
  2. Not comic related, but funny nonetheless........https://youtu.be/lhxsNXpoCZ8
  3. This is interesting..... https://www.linkedin.com/in/mike-kaye-09b44368
  4. So I've only been looking at the Daredevils and perhaps its me, but some of the prices being bid and there are 6 days left seem to defy logic. Daredevil #55 - 9.8 - Bowling Green Pedigree bids are up to $5,100 (sold 9 years ago for $1,016 according to GPA) and Daredevil #130 - 9.8 bids are up to $1,200 (according to GPA most paid ever was $375 in 2004, in 2009 I think a 9.8 sold for $215). I realize GPA is not the end all relative to market value but it represents enough to make these prices appear pretty inflated but I "ain't' complaining.
  5. You are right though...can't explain the grip on the bad guy, defies physics....
  6. One possible explanation....he was at the end point of the arc and slid 15 feet down the webbing length toward the end of the webbing...
  7. I totally concur...I laughed close to 10 seconds after reading that the first time and laughed again as I typed this!
  8. Thanks....that is it. CCTV is so commonplace now, essentially foretold in comics, well sorta. Britain evidently installed a limited number in the 60's. But they became prevalent in NYC in the 90s. There are other examples of technology which appeared in comics which at the time seemed, well like something found in a comic book which are now common. There is an example in a later silver age Daredevil I am looking for.
  9. I know I'm getting old but I swear I read an Amazing Spider-Man issue from the 70s in which the the villain wanted to place closed circuit cameras all around the city of New York atop buildings telling the authorities it was to fight crime or help them do so. Does anyone remember the issue or am imagining this.
  10. Picked up this Daredevil #22 on CLink last week. Talk about strong prices for Daredevil, the Green River pedigree, CGC 9.0 - #10 sold for $557!!!
  11. My older brother and I had some of these cards and my brother said, I've seen Daredevil comics for sale....he then picked up my first comic......and he picked up his first Thor and the rest is history as they say......
  12. I seem to recall reading somewhere that it was not unusual that Kirby could do a entire comic layout in one evening. If true multiple, multiple books makes sense.
  13. I bought my DD #1 from Bell, early 70s, paid $10 and kept it in a Bell bag for at least 30+ years, finally put it in a Mylar bag. I got it graded a few years ago....2.5 universal. I do miss the days of Robert Bell, Kirby drawing Thor, FF, Colan drawing DD, Steranko drawing Shield/Nick Fury, etc., black light posters of SpiderMan and Cap and the Falcon and comics on newsprint.
  14. Back in the day my brother and I bought quite a few books from Bell and what made me think about this, I haven’t a clue, but if you bought from him do you recall if he simply put the books in an envelope and shipped them or did he at least put them between two pieces of card board? I simply can’t remember.
  15. The technical aspects of survey design is relatively manageable, the data collection\survey instrument can be very difficult to develop, i.e., issues around validity, reliability, etc. It would likely be a good idea for CGC to revamp their instrument......I am basing my conclusion on the information presented in this post....by the way what were the income ranges? Just curious.
  16. So a friend of mine who has a very different lifestyle than I passed along the following to me. Evidently, he ran across an escort's application for services and her last entry on the application was the following: "This is honestly the most important question on this form. However, I will not discriminate based on how you answer." This text was followed by a drop down menu for you to make a choice........ Marvel ____ DC______ Neither_____ Both_____
  17. Page 18....Tales to Astonish #59.....For some reason I’ve always remembered this panel, not necessarily a favorite panel, but one I like. General Thunderbolt Ross, not a fan of Banner.
  18. I am just curious, silver age forward, what other artists in your opinion do you feel one could attribute the "punching bag" descriptor too? I can think of two, likely Frank Robbins and maybe the early Luke Cage artist whose name escapes me at the moment. But again, the upshot for me is the work was being published. But then again I am not a fan of all of Salvador Dali's or Picasso's work either.
  19. As a "still learning" recreational sequential artist I am not fond of the man's art, however he is doing something I am not, having his work published. One thing of note for me is that a colleague of mine who is not a reader of comics at all is familiar with RL's art and the criticism which follows it. Regardless, to imply RL is on some level positivly compared to Kirby is a real, real stretch.
  20. It is....I loved it to a grade 2.0 but as a kid I thought of it as mint!
