  1. I'm happy to report we're at 90% funded after 36 hours! So that's great, and I really appreciate everyone's support very much. One odd thing this time is that the project has seemed to stall out almost immediately. Last time things died off after day three, but this time all 90% of the funding came within the first 18 hours. Since noon yesterday, there hasn't been a single backer. It's kind of unusual in my limited experience — there's always a "dead zone" in the middle of a Kickstarter campaign, but it usually doesn't hit this fast. I wouldn't have expected things to completely die off until the weekend. Still, we're close to goal, and there's a lot of time left in the campaign! So I'm going to keep plugging away. I'm also in the process of figuring out just what the stretch goals are going to be. What sort of thing do you all feel would add value to your experience? Is there any bonus you'd like to receive along with your comic that would enhance the experience? Or any other rewards you'd like to buy that I am currently not offering - merchandise, whatever? Let me know! And thanks so much to everyone who has backed, I really appreciate the support very much!
  2. Thanks so much, I appreciate the support! If you can go through the Kickstarter page, that might be a little better for me, but whatever works easier for you is fine. Kickstarter has certain algorithms based on backers,so having more on there may help promote the book within their site more. But the end result is about the same for me either way. And thanks for offering to share it! It you copy and paste this link into the "What's on your mind" box on Facebook, that should be all you need to do to share it: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thecrimebusters/the-crimebusters-1-2-supernatural-mystery-adventure-awaits?ref=d3ec1w
  3. Here it is! I'm excited to announce that the second issue of my Boy Comics revival is now live on Kickstarter! As I posted previously, the Boy Comics variant cover for this issue features not just Crimebuster, but also fellow Boy Comics co-star Yankee Longago! Doubling down! Now I just need to figure out how to work Swoop Storm and Young Robin Hood into future issues... Also, there's another variant cover that may be of interest to some people here. The Kickstarter Exclusive variant — which as you might guess is only available to people who back the project through Kickstarter — is an homage to the cover of Planet Comics #71. It also features the original numbering carried over from Boy Comics: Thanks everyone for all the support on this project! Needless to say, bringing Crimebuster and Boy Comics back to life is a real passion project for me, and I can't wait to share this new issue with you. And also, not for nothing, get a copy myself for my own collection!
  4. I'm cross-posting this a couple places, but I wanted to share here that the second issue of my comic The Crimebusters is now live on Kickstarter. The Crimebusters is a ode to classic teen detective novels and mystery adventure shows like Scooby Doo, but with the twist that sometimes, those monsters and ghosts might be real. It's also a passion project of mine as it co-stars Chuck Chandler, aka Crimebuster — my forum namesake — and continues the continuity from his original series, Boy Comics, which ended with #119 in 1956. Since the character and series are in the public domain, I decided to continue the run, which is why every issue I do a variant cover that features the original title and numbering. Here's a look at the three covers I drew for this issue. There are also two others by guest artists, but since this thread is about our personal artwork, I won't share them here. This is the regular cover for issue #2, "The Secret of the Ghost Bride." I wanted to have a little bit of that classic Neal Adams DC Horror feel to it — it's not really a direct homage to stuff like Batman #227, but I always loved those "giant figures looming" covers. The other two covers, though, are direct homages. This Boy Comics #121 variant cover is an homage to Simon and Kirby's cover to Adventure Comics #74, which I thought was fitting since my cover (and the story inside) guest-star the Golden Age Boy Comics character Yankee Longago, whose deal is that he can time travel in his dreams. So a Sandman homage seemed fitting: And this last one, which I have shown in this thread previously, is an homage to Maurice Whitman's cover for Planet Comics #71. The comic itself also appears in the backup story, which features my character Vera Veritas, who takes center stage in this homage. This cover is a Kickstarter Exclusive variant, so it is only available to people who back through Kickstarter - it also carries on the original numbering from Boy Comics: Thanks everyone for your support over the long months it took to make this comic, I really appreciate it!!
  5. It's finally time! The Crimebusters #2 is now LIVE on Kickstarter! I'm super excited to finally have a chance to share this with everyone. It's been a really difficult process for me thanks to a bunch of massive life events over the past few months, but the book is (nearly) complete now and by the time the money comes in from Kickstarter, it will be ready to go to the printer. I'm super excited to continue the story of Chuck Chandler, Trixie Trouble, and friends! This time around, they investigate a haunted house. But when the trail goes cold, there's only one way to find out the truth: time travel?! This issue also guest stars my updated version of the Golden Age character Yankee Longago, who co-starred alongside Crimebuster in Boy Comics! Here's another look at the covers: Regular cover Boy Comics #121 Variant co-starring Yankee Longago, and homaging Simon and Kirby's cover for Adventure Comics #74 Kickstarter Exclusive Variant featuring the Legacy Numbering, and an homage to the cover of Planet Comics #71 by Maurice Whitman Trixie's Mysteries Variant by guest cover artist Heather Farrington Super Avery Variant cover by neurodiverse comic creator Avery Houle Thanks so much to everyone who has supported me, and I hope if you decide to back this project, that you enjoy reading this issue as much as I have enjoyed creating it!
  6. Well, issue #2 is aunching on Tuesday, and I've been a busy man. First, here's the first media interview I've done about The Crimebusters, so that's pretty exciting! Secondly, I just finished the back cover for issue #2: I've also received my first guest cover artwork! Heather Farrington is another indie creator with an Archie-esque style — her book Juvenile Diversion is a coming-of-age stroy aout a group of teens in the 1980's. I think she did a bang-up job on the Trixie's Mysteries variant cover for issue #2: I've also just done a sci-fi convention, and have a comic show this weekend before launch! Now I just need to find the time to actually finish the comic! I'm pretty sure I'll have it done by the time the Kickstarter money arrives at least, so we're still on track. Here's the link again to the Kickstarter pre-launch page; just click the "Notify me on launch" button to get an email reminder as soon as it goes live: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thecrimebusters/the-crimebusters-1-2-supernatural-mystery-adventure-awaits/
  7. The Shuma Gorath story by Peter B. Gillis in Strange Tales #1-18 (1987) is fantastic, and way underrated. For me personally, it's the best Dr. Strange story behind only Ditko's Dormammu/Eternity arc. If they adapted the Gillis run for the films I would eat a shoe.
  8. Howdy! I'm excited to share with you the link for the Kickstarter campaign for The Crimebusters #2, which will be live on January 28. And don't worry, if you missed #1, that's available as well. Kickstarter has a groovy new feature called the "Notify me on launch" button. Click on that, and as soon as the project is live, you'll automatically receive an email notification the moment the project is live. I'm super excited to share this issue with everyone. Thanks for all the support over these trying months, it means a lot to me. Adventure awaits! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thecrimebusters/the-crimebusters-1-2-supernatural-mystery-adventure-awaits
  9. Thanks! As I mentioned, it will be launching on Kickstarter on January 28, so it will be available to buy at that point - the Kickstarter will run through February 28, at which point I will send it to the printer. I expect people will get their copies some time in April. As soon as I have a working link for the Kickstarter, I'll be sharing it - probably mid-January.

  11. Found this at an LCS - only have time for a quick photo, so there's some glare on the bag:
  12. I cross posted this over on the Golden Age forum too, but what the heck, not everybody reads that — and not everybody over there reads this. I finished the Boy Comics #121 variant for issue #2! In this issue, Chuck and his new partner Trixie Trouble are also joined by special guest star Yankee Longago! Yankee Longago first appeared way back in 1942's Boy Comics #3 in the same issue where Crimebuster debuted. Created by the great Briefer, Yankee Longago was a kid who could travel to the past in his dreams, and you were never quite sure if his adventures were just dreams, or if they truly happened. In this issue, Chuck meets a now-grownup Yankee Longago, who has discovered he can induce these time travel dreams in other people as well — something Chuck and Trixie will find very handy as they attempt to solve a cold case from the 1890's! Given that I wanted to feature Yankee Longago on the cover, it only seemed fitting to do it as an homage to Simon and Kirby's classic Sandman cover from Adventure Comics #74. It honestly gives me a thrill every time I do one of these Boy Comics covers! I can't wait to hold it in my hand and add it to my Boy Comics collection!
  13. As most of you know, earlier this year I finally published the first issue of my continuation of the Boy Comics series, The Crimebusters. Well, I'm excited to say that I'm almost done with issue #2, which will be heading to Kickstarter on January 28. And as I am doing for every issue, I've done a Boy Comics variant cover which carries on the legacy of the original series, featuring the original logo and numbering.
  14. 1. This is a very personal one for me. Ever since I bought my first issue of Boy Comics back in 2008, I've loved the series, and the main character, Crimebuster. And I always wished it had continued. Since the character and title are public domain, I decided i should just do the next issue myself! Well, easier said than done. But after years of development and a couple false starts, earlier this year I finally self-published my first comic, The Crimebusters, which is a continuation of Boy Comics picking up the continuity where that series ended with #119 in 1956. Holding a copy of the Boy Comics #120 variant in my hand was one of my biggest comic related thrills ever! 2. And of course, there's this! I finally landed a reasonably priced copy of Boy Comics #4 - which is the last issue I needed to complete the run! 3. Finally, this was very unexpected and totally awesome. A few years ago I really got into Doctor Strange and started putting together a complete run. I was able to get Strange Tales #134-up - including Doctor Strange #169-183, Marvel Feature #1, Marvel Premiere #3-14, Doctor Strange vol 2 #1-81, and Strange Tales vol 2 #1-19. But thanks to the run up before the film, I missed out on getting an affordable copy of his first appearance in Strange Tales #110. So I kind of gave up. Well, the hunt is back on because I found a copy of Strange Tales #110 at a show two weeks ago - and the dealer only asked $10 for it!
  15. It's outside of my collecting focus, but I found a Cole cover at a comic shop a while ago and picked it up. Photo:
  16. Somewhere in this world there's a punch bowl you haven't pooped in yet.
  17. Good news, I have completed the initial art for the main story for The crimebusters #2! We're still on track for a Kickstarter launch at the end of January. I also just did my final show of the year, a three day affair last weekend. I sort of lost my shirt on my table, however, the weekend was saved from a financial perspective when I somehow found a copy of Strange Tales #110 for $10. I also met some cool creators doing their own books, and a lot of cool fans, so overall it was a good experience. Here's the convention report I put together! I also forgot to mention that my monthly newsletter is coming out today around 12:30 pm ET, so if you haven't signed up, now's a good time.
  18. The weirdest part was it wasn't like it was mispriced or something. There was no price on it at all, so I had to ask for the price. They held it and looked it over! I dunno. I also got a nice mid-grade Strange Tales #169 with the 1st Brother Voodoo from them for $5, but while that was a very nice deal too, it sort of takes a very back seat to this one.
  19. I don't think this is really one of the rarest, but I was happy to get this one!
  20. I was especially excited because I was working on a full run of Dr. Strange but kind of gave up because the movie put this out of my price range. Now I can actually finish it!
