  1. One of said projects was a full deck of Star Wars inspired playing cards. Painted the originals 7.5x10.5" and now I'm in the process of having them printed into actual decks.
  2. Took a full time job about a year and a half ago and been working on various art project but still creep around here from time to time. Just wanted to let you all know that there is some serious talent on this board!
  3. I could have sworn this said you got shot on Fulton a block away from the HOF. I was gonna say, parts of Canton are bad... but... whoa... It's still there! Although I prefer heading a little farther south on Fulton to Taggarts for Bitners. From an art standpoint, Canton has really become a good place to work and exhibit. The Arts District downtown, ArtsinStark and First Fridays have made it into a pretty exciting place, given the circumstances. Too bad Bane is not from this area, I could have given him lots of suggestions!
  4. I was in Canton at the time. (thumbs u Crazy small world. I'm from the Canton area. Just a twinkle in my mother's eye in the '70's though. Went to Kent State University.
  5. I went to college for art. So I've taken a lot of fine art classes. My degree was in drawing before picking up the education degree. I also took various photography, design, craft, digital, etc. classes. Currently I teach art in a public school setting. I also offer private lessons for all ages out of my house and at a nearby museum. Perhaps checking those outlets might prove beneficial? Drawing is something that can be learned. I say grab a sketchbook and start drawing. Draw everything and anything. Observation and imagination. Like other's suggested, YouTube has some good resources... The book Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain as a lot of activities that I've found to be good for practice. (There is also a full copy of her video on YouTube floating around).
  6. Yes. Everything I know has pretty much been self taught. I still struggle! Honestly, for every good piece, I have two trashed. Really, though, I struggle with color. B&W, pencil & ink, I'm good. Start adding color in any media and I tend to lose it.
  7. after finishing storm i got excited to try my hand at a second superhero lady. here's a completed phoenix.
  8. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and kinds words on my preliminary sketch. Today I finished my Storm illustration.
  9. Mio, lovely work. I haven't done figure drawing since school. I am always tempted to go back to campus, as they offered a free figure study program on Friday mornings. I was always awful with oils though. I'll stick to pencil & ink! (and occasionally watercolors)
  10. First off, I want to let everyone know that I've read through the entire thread and admire everyone's work! One of the reasons I joined the boards was as a way to learn more about comics & their history because I teach art and I think that it would be well received amongst the junior high set. I want Mrs. Winter to be remembered as the coolest art teacher ever. Anyways, the reason I'm posting here is because I was commissioned to draw Storm. I have a fine arts background, done a little illustration, but have never attempted comics/heroes, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here's a quick sketch I started last night... Personally, I don't feel like she's dynamic enough... You can be brutal. I can take it.
