I gave them my honest valuation of the page in my first answer. $4000-$5000. I stand by that. If a regular page goes for $2100, then a page drawn by John Buscema and featuring one of the characters he is famous for drawing during the silver age would go for significantly more, hence my $4000-$5000 estimate.

The argument against my estimate is that a page from that same issue sold at ComicLink for $2100 — but that page does not have the Surfer on it and there is a Surfer tax on these pages where they always sell higher with him on there. Especially when it’s the Surfer drawn by John Buscema.

Ron, absolutely with all due respect, you’ve been around as long as I have and you should know how high Surfer pages sell. I sold a Beavis and Butthead page with a Ron Lim Silver Surfer on it four years ago for $1800, so I know a 1980s, Avengers volume 1 page drawn by John Buscema would definitely sell for a LOT more than $1800 and that would put it right in the range of my estimate.

My statements about a dealer putting it up for sale for five figures is not the estimate, it’s how high I believe they would price it on their websites.

Thanks to all your informations and advices, Michael. It is very helpfull.

Michael, with all respect, a John Buscema Silver Surfer page and a John Buscema Avengers page with the Silver Surfer drawn 27 years later is a really good example of apples and oranges. The question the original poster asked was what kind of value they could expect if they sold the page. The price a dealer would put on a page and carry from show to show for years isn't a real data point. If they want to sell, certainly no dealer is going to give them the numbers you've suggested, right?

If the page is consigned to an auction - to the original poster that's what I would strongly suggest - we'll find out what the market thinks.

Ron, I never consigned to any auctions, and I was just thinking to sell on CAF as usual! I guess I will follow your strong advice this time! Thanks

  3. I need to sale the 2 following pages: Many Ghosts of Doctor Graves #15 cover and Avengers #266 by Buscema. I have no idea of their value, especially the Aparo cover since I 've never seen one for sale.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Use them all the time - 100's of comics submitted. I drop the comics off at the London office and pick them up when they are done. The team there are fantastic and when there are glitches they've been resolved quickly and efficiently. Highly recommended.

Thank you Nick. How long the process take?

    Which way are you going?

Inbound to the US no taxes

Inbound to Canada has HST or PST/GST, although that is sometimes waived for small amounts

Sorry to hear.  I usually don't make the piece sold until I have payment (or it's a known user and he confirms it).  Heck, I don't even mark I on hold until it's pretty much sold.  At least that way I will still get emails if others are interested (I do tell the they are not first on the list if they email)

    Malvin

Thanks Malvin!  I agree! I should have marked it on hold.

The EU brought in legislation so that VAT is collected at PoS. This was decided back in 2016 but only introduced last year. It could be that border force in France is strict about this or, more likely, the seller filled in the customs documentation incorrectly, they needed to contact one of you, but couldn't, and the package got sent back.

The package will most likely have a sticker with the reason on it.

Thank you very much. I will ask the seller. He just received his package back.

That is very odd. Sales VAT shouldn't apply as you're buying from outside the EU; import VAT might apply, but as you say, the courier company usually handles the payment of that, and charges it on. I haven't bought art from Ebay for a few years, but that does all sound quite strange. There may be two different issues (Ebay charging VAT and the parcel entering France) depending on how the original owner shipped it - if they didn't put the right customs paperwork on the parcel, with the right HTS code etc. then maybe the French customs refused to accept it? All quite aggravating, I'd imagine!

Thank you very much for your help.

  9. Hello everyone! I'm a eurpean collector from France. I bought a pag, last month,  from the US via ebay. Ebay can me to pay VAT (first time ever)! The package was blocked at the french custom for 2 weeks  and then for unknown reason returned to the original owner in California. It is the first time that kind of problem happened to me. Usually when i had to pay some custom taxes, i pay it at the delivery. Does anyone have any clue?

    Thanks for your help.

    4.0 w /CP

price? This is how I would figure it. Last sale $1470 of a 6.5 UK variant in Oct 21. Since then price has come down about 30%, that would put a UK 6.5 at $1020 range. Looking at some current sales of US version and comparing 6.5 to 4.0 it’s roughly 50-60% drop, so i would take the $1020 and deduct 55% and I would probably start with a price of $500 and go from there 😊 imho.

    Thanks for your help
