  1. The only problem is the HUGE sums of money between a 9.6 and 9.8. That and the fact that some are just re-issuing books for the pre-screen til they get the grade they want. I'm not sure why I care really. Personally, I'm not interested in buying a book because it graded 9.8 When I finally found FF48 in decent condition at a ridiculous price, I was Flippin' Ecstatic!
  2. That's perfect. I could even drop off a few at some point on my way to NH. I'm sure he wouldn't mind moving a couple up to the head of the line so I could grab them on my return trip! My profile still says Queens eh? Thought I changed that, I'm even further out on the Island now in Lake Ronkonkoma. HAD to get outta the city
  3. Therein lies the biggest problem with CGC not providing grader notes, on all dang books... I've seen countless posts in my very short time researching this stuff to wonder if its basically a clown convention over there these days...
  4. @KirbyTown Dang, just beat me to it Spawn 250: 9.6 / Cert#: 3835773001 / no grader notes Spawn 224: 9.6 / Cert#: 3893315009 / no grader notes Spawn 150: 9.6 / Cert#: 3835773005 / very small slice bottom spine Spawn 300: 9.4 / Cert#: 3797562002 / light scuffing to cover Spawn 301: 9.4 / Cert#: 3835773012 / no grader notes Spawn 227: 9.0 / Cert#: 3835773002 / no grader notes A couple things here: Of the 6 books you showed the cert # for, 4 of them have no grader notes. That is a major part of the problem with CGC. Neither the 9.6 with a small slice nor the 9.4 with light scuffing will improve with a C&P, hopefully those didn’t go for the C&P. The other (2) 9.6’s, without grader notes, are just not good candidates for a C&P unless you can find a small stain, dirt, slight spine roll, cover that isn’t flat, etc. that could be improved. In my limited experience, I’m generally seeing that a C&P is best utilized for books below 9.0 unless you can find something that may be improved. You didn’t mention if you utilized the prescreening service for the initial grading? I’ve read about people submitting books for prescreening for 9.8’s multiple times till they get a grader that gives it a 9.8… sadly, this is still a very subjective field… That is where these boards are great. Take a high-res pic of your book and ask before submitting if there is something a C&P would help. There are a-lot of really good graders here that enjoy helping people grade their books. Finally, try another service. Either for grading or pressing. I highly recommend a third party that does C&P. They should be able to tell you if the book is good candidate or not. If not, find someone else. If your unhappy with the service you are receiving, send a couple books out to someone else and see if you like their service. For me personally, I don’t limit myself to just CGC. It’s the very long wait time and lack of grader notes.
  5. Considering the time and some of the setups these guys have, not something I would try either. I plan on sending a couple books out to a "professional," are they considered professionals, before submitting for grading. Seen to many disappointments, not too mention ridiculous time extensions for people who ask CGC to do it before grading.
  6. Thx! Pride of my humble little collection
  7. How brave ya feeling? (go to 8:16) https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=cleaning+water+stain+in+comic+book#kpvalbx=_CWvMYsCRJLDIptQPlt6SmA035
  8. Here's another one for your review. I will be getting this one graded and hope to get my 1st shipment going within the next couple weeks. Still trying to figure out what else to send... On to the book: Just above the “A” in the word “GREATEST” at the top center of the cover, is a tear that is approximately 1/8”. Shockingly, despite the wear along the spine and top of the book, that is the only tear. One small pen scribble inside front cover (top left). Off white pages and all pages intact. Clean and tight staples. Other than that, what you see is what you get. Thx for your time!
  9. Yea, I feel the same myself. Some of the prices on books are just crazy now. Next week I'll be posting my favorite book Fantastic4 48, I think its about a 5 but I just want some 2nd opinions before I send it in for grading. However, I always kick myself because back in the early 90's I always had my eye on a VF/NM copy of that book in my local shop for $250 back then, but never pulled the trigger... What a Dumb Arse! LOL
  10. Thx guys for the reviews! @grendelbo Regional Scarcity - love it! While not really knowing it at the time, I had my own way of dealing with it. I started collecting during college in the late 80's in NH. Family in upstate NY, girlfriend from NYC and lived in MA after college. During all those constant road trips, my favorite past-time on the road was picking a random town, finding a phone book and calling the local comic shop for directions! Remember: no GPS or cell phones, just my good buddy Rand McNally and a phone booth
  11. TY - All opinions are greatly appreciated. As a long time collector but new member to not only this forum but serious grading in general, I'm learning a lot over the past few months. I've always known this book had these flaws but always hoped I could get even an 8.0 for the book once I noticed them... which I'm not sure about. Either way, unfortunately I do agree, if I wanted a nicer copy, I should sell it raw, being sure to note flaws I've outlined here, I'm not the type of guy to hide flaws. Just a little disappointed I didn't catch those in my younger days when purchasing the book. It was the last one in the complete series I was able to get. Then again, in those days, I was more concerned with getting books on the cheap
  12. Really sry guys but I can't figure out how to delete this post while I fix the pics I wanted to add... ugh...
  13. Sorry, I saw it immediately and trying to fix...
