This year's Free State show was a real treat! A recent estate sale in the area brought over 100 impressive pre-code and pre-hero books to the market and they were the belles of this ball. Customer flow started off a bit slower than usual, but I will attribute that to the weather, which started off kinda shaky and continually got better as the day wore on and the customer traffic followed the same pattern. Outside of the pre-code/pre-hero stuff mentioned above, not many wall books were moving. The main exception to that was anything Ms./Captain Marvel. Ms./Captain Marvel keys were moving off of the vendors' walls, but not much else of significance to note or trend to reference. The lone copy of Carnage: Mind Bomb in the room did sell. Customers ravenously hit discount and dollar boxes all day long, which is typical for this show.
All in all, it was a solid showing for Free State 2018.

Anyone hear anything about this minicon they’ve got coming up?
Just that it is happening, but I haven't heard anything about vendors, etc. Wondering if it isn't going to be more of a cosplay or pop-culture feature or something. Details are pretty scarce at this point.

@SSkufan I thought the same thing, but decided to just pass, as opposed to being "that guy."

I thought about going, but changed my mind out as there will me a first year show in Lee Summit, MO that I though I would give a shot. Please let us know how it goes.
That LS show runs 10a-7p. I predict some BORED vendors long before the end of that show. I thought about going, but decided against after seeing the length of it. I don't see a 1st time one-day show sustaining a crowd for 9 hours.

This is happening in Norman, correct?
Yes. At the Embassy Suites.

Where did you book? We usually opt for La Quinta because of the reward program, but could be convinced to look elsewhere for the right price.
Actually staying at the Embassy Suites. I'm a Hilton Honors member, so I'll take free drinks and a free cooked to order breakfast any day. Plus there is nothing like just riding the elevator up to your bed after a long day on the show floor.

Booked my hotel for this show last week! Looking forward to it!

Wife said it went well. Had a customer who bought a wall book that was a bit of a pain - but other than that went well.
"That Guy" is always a pain. He's damn good help though and we had a lot of fun at your expense @SSkufan!!!

Show went really well. Attendance felt like it was definitely down, but the people that were there were spending money. I'd rather see a light room with people spending money than a packed one full of tire kickers! Free State ComiCon will at the same location on September 8th!

Yeah I am actually really bummed about this as I had fun at C2E2 this past weekend and wanted to maybe start making it a yearly thing. I will be going to Planet and will set up there as this is the local show. My main concern will be the stretch on talent and those people that are in that buffer zone between KC and Chicago that will perhaps choose C2E2 over Planet. I feel for those folks in STL as they have a real pickle on their hands and I think the final decision will be based on what artist/creators are where and who they prefer.
It is what it is and I am sure in a perfect world all of those involved don't want this to happen, but what are you going to do when a lot of your dates are in the hands of the convention center.I hear you. We were talking Saturday at FanCon about wanting to do C2E2 and/or Heroes in 2019. Going to be pretty tough to pull that off.

Last night I heard that Planet will be sharing this weekend with C2E2 and Wondercon. If true that is seriously terrible news.
It couldn't be more true. What a real kick in the pants for those of us in the fly over. Two of our biggest shows on the same weekend, with WonderCon taking place as well. Talent pool will be stretched thin.

Bump for this cool little show with affordable entry. 1 week away! If any of you guys that are setting up know whether they are doing a Friday night preview again, let us know. I have to travel south Saturday afternoon but hope to at least see you all that morning for the first couple hours.
No preview night for the FanCon show. Not sure if that will come back for FreeState 2018 or not, as last year was just a trial run, I believe. I'll be there in my usual spot (CoMo Comic Books). Swing by and introduce yourself!

One year from today!
I hate it when its more than 12 months between shows... Patience is not my forte. Though I'm thankful for the extra time to recoup my wall. It's taken a beating this year!

Good luck to everyone who's setting up or just prowling around!

The vendor list was just announced and I've got to say, I don't recognize most of the names. I'll be there in my usual spot (CoMo Comic Books), as will Sean with Back in Time, Erin with Middle School Geek (while Tom is up farting around in Chicago) and Craig with FanCon Comix. I'll be interested to see what walks in the room with some of these newer vendors!

I think that Iron Man is one of those titles that sells more consistently online than it does at shows. If I bring any IM to a show it sits, and if I don't then I get asked why I don't have any. If someone would go into a thread to ask the dealers to bring a specific book or title(s) it could help in situations like this. We can't always bring everything we have to a show and have to prioritize space.
He did some ground work before the show. I just didn't have much to offer. But I agree with the fact that it's not often something I have people clamoring for. The fact that I'm still building my run means anything too nice winds up in my collection :).

I just picked up a pretty nice #7, but mostly run in mid to lower grade issues until the more modern issues. Stop by and see if anything tickles your fancy!
