  1. It is at Detroit's Eastern Market off Russell Road southeast of Downtown in Shed 3 - two hundred booths with 1 to 2 tables of books including a number of comic book dealers and a number of book dealers who bring comics as well as art books, posters , sci-fi etc. I'll be in booth 14 with a wide range of comic books including Golden Age, precode , silver age- posters etc. Mike Parsons who is sharing the booth is bringing down very high grade more recent comics as he is beginning to thin his collection. Free admission and free parking- about 20-30 authors are also set up- hope to see you there. If you are within driving distance it is worth the trip.
  2. A number of people have asked me what is in the boxes? One headache is I am picking up box on the way in so a third of it I haven't seen yet- I'll be pricing like crazy on Thursday. The other are very missed lots - one is a collection of a major collector of original art - his art went to auction but the collection of books related to the art for some reason did not- so it is all over the place fawcet, harvey and quality needs to be early DC tends more to late 40's to right before the code sets in- some precode ME western. The other lot is from an artist tends to be lower grade but again is all over the map. The third lot is bronze age like new books from another artist- the first part of this lot almost sold out at Fallcon last year - this is what was left over plus another half longbox Hope this helps Best George Hagenauer- I am also thinning my collection of especially pre-code horror crime etc.
  3. I’ll be setting up and bringing 3 long boxes of Golden/Silver age from friends Collections that have never been offered before and several hundred pieces of art of all types at the Minnesota Springcon Saturday May 18th and Sunday May 19th. I'll be at the Springhollow booth (usually at the back of the show. Also some nice first Edition Conan hardcovers and some Donald grant editions of Howard's work https://www.mcbacomicons.com/ The space is under the Minnesota Fairgrounds grandstand so you’re looking at essentially a football field’s worth of comics and related material. This is an all comics (not a multimedia show) that draws about 10,000 people over the weekend- features a charity auction of comic art, and several dozen artists. Admission is $15 a day. I will not be the only person there selling art work. In addition to the many artist guests there are several other dealers who set up with some art to sell. It is a fun show which essentially took the best of shows like the old Chicago Comicon and improved on them. Hope to see some of you there – —George Hagenauer

  5. For those who haven't heard the incredibly multi-talented Bob Weinberg died yesterday. He was one of the people involved with the Chicago Comicon from the first year and a partner for much of its run. I have had his pulp and more important science fiction art checklists on my desk since they were published years ago. He was a writer-in comics (various Xmen related titles) and novels He did a host of sci-fi and horror related illustration books and was one of the first publishers of pulp reprints and fanzines in the 1970s. He sold me my first science fiction painting (which still hangs on my wall) over 40 years ago. But mostly he was a friend someone I have known forever and is now gone - one of those holes that is not going not to be refilled. But he will be remembered every time.I pass a piece he once owned. And if you collect early sci-fi art you need to own his index which I think is stitl available in a digital format.
  6. It is time for Wizard World Chicago again -this time the 40th show since we started it as the Chicago Comicon. For the few people who are going I am at booth 509 in founders circle with Larry Charet. We are also doing a Chicago Comicon 40th anniversary panel at 3:30 on Friday, Larry, Myself, Mike Gold Gary Calabouno and Maggie Thompson talk about what went on and what we had to do to run the show for 20 years! And if you are not going and collect original art check out my CAF gallery as while it doesn’t cover everything I am taking t o the show, a bunch of the art In the sales gallery will not be there a week from now so if you want something put it on hold or buy it. http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=4536 And with this being the 40th and with me moving (ie cleaning out files I am selling off most of what I have left from the promo material we did for the Chicago Comicon some of it is shown and priced on my CAF others if interested I can get you a list (need a well worn 30+ year old Chicago Comicon Dr. Who shirt -I got one!-cheap) my email is yellowkd at terracom dot net The CAf gallery of Chicago Comicon stuff is up at http://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=158011 There are also for art collectors sets of promo leaflets and partial art auction catalogs ( as we inevitably got donations at the con) Most of this material is promo work for the various Chicago Comicon art auctions - it is not complete as there are some years where I have no copies at all of what we did- included are thank you notes promo sheets that sometimes list the art that was donated early - 2 leaflets for the Minnesota Con auction which is where we sold off everything that was left when Wizard took over and ended the auctions. And a few general Chicago con leaflets. Most of this stuff Is 8 1/2 by 11 sometimes folded there are 11 different lots but they vary in price and number of items as I have more of some than others. The largest pack has 24 for $30 artists range from Neil Gaiman to Curt Swan to Herriman! The thank you notes were done in very small runs Very probably some of this will sell out before the con so if you are going reserve it now and pick it up at the show Bes tGeorge
