  4. I had a very pleasant five figure comic book purchase from Isaac that went very well. He’s definitely a nice professional to do business with.
  5. Here’s a #1 coming up in a heritage auction and it looks like quite a few others from the set run: https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/underdog-1-gold-key-1975-cgc-nm-94-off-white-to-white-pages/p/122016-113010.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515
  6. I’ve always thought the underdog gold key series is ripe for a large increase in price
  7. I’d actually say cheap and of medium effort. I used to think like you about 10 years ago and I’m not saying the set is super easy to put together, I don’t think it’s really that hard either just takes a bit of time. But then if you can complete it really does give you a nice sense of accomplishment. As for prices I still think these are some of the cheapest, books out there given their popularity of the characters. It will be interesting to see what the Scooby Doo movies do to add interest if they do a few of them over the next 5-6 years too.
  8. Yes for the registry either the western or gold key copy is valid. I’ve also never really noticed a price difference between the two but the westerns are more rare.
  9. Thanks, the #16 was my last one and I settled for the 6.0 after 10 years of looking with no better luck, so I’d love to upgrade that one especially and then the few I have less than 9.0 in the set. I feel this is a set that couldn’t be rivaled in under a decade of work, but would love to make it even better any chance I can get!
  10. I would love an upgrade to any and all of these, let me know if you have anything!
  11. Well it took me a decade but I finally finished off the run of the Scooby Doo gold key comics set on the registry. I hope you enjoy the run as much as I did collecting them. Scooby is clearly my favorite cartoon and the comic books are fun to chase down! https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/SetTypeDetail.aspx?SetTypeID=461
  12. What do you think about Under Dog #1? Better than Scooby doo?
  13. Would Scooby doo #4 qualify as a top contender for this thread based on rarity?
  14. I still haven’t found any more, anyone else have a new one?
  15. Looks like Scooby jumped to 7 on the top 25 Bronze Age list, good call predicting it as a sleeper!
  16. So the topic of this post is to find the most affordable key comic book right? So let's just say some characters originated in comics, cartoons or movie properties and all origins are just fine as long as that character made it into a key comic we can compare them to see which is more affordable and "more key". When I compare TMNT and Scooby I see Scooby #1 as clearly more affordable and as far as more key, well Scooby is certainly rarer when you compare the CGC census and the eBay raw comic availability. Does that mean it's more key, not necessarily but it certainly helps!
  17. Glad to see another like minded soul has seen the light. Scooby is so under valued compared to TMNT. I grew up with both and It seems so clear Scooby is a larger global brand and his comics are so much rarer. I think in 10 years the collecting world will reward the Scooby values much more. By the way I own both so would also be pleased if both went up the same, just think Scooby is like a coiled spring in comparison.
  18. For Bronze I'm going to go with Scooby Doo gold key too. It's an interesting example above of "how low" the print run on TMNT 1 is and when you compare it to the Scooby #1 it actually looks super high, but life is relative. Total CGC graded: Scooby- 143 TMNT- 798 Comic Copies grade 9.0 and above Scooby- 6 TMNT- 295 Scooby looks incredibly rare compared to the "ridiculously low print run" of TMNT #1 mentioned above. There's 24 TMNT graded 9.8 and with Scooby you'd have to go all the way down to 8.0 to get a total of 28 copies graded. Now that to me is actually the ridiculously low print run. But, how about value as the topic suggests-- TMNT- an 8.5 sold recently on eBay for $7,500 Scooby- and 8 sold recently for $2,200 So basically today you can pick up the 381st best copy of TMNT for 3.5 times greater the cost of the 28th best copy of Scooby Doo? Seems like Scooby is the slam dunk here for rarity and value??
  19. I haven't found any others from this movies signing and variant releases. Anyone else see something I've missed?
  20. Hi all Stan Lee fans, I wanted to revisit this post and see if anyone else had any variants to confirm or add? Now that there's sadly no more 1st day cover series tocollect I think this was and always will be the best and my favorite. Any other thoughts on a contender to challenge or do we all agree this is the best series?
  21. Yikes that seems really low to me actually, last year I paid $3,000 for a Scooby 9.2. If anyone wants to unload one for $2,000 I will take all you have!
