  1. Ha! Indeed, my bad. You are correct. Below are the two passages from POP. No reholder necessary…
  2. I’ve never heard of the “Pacole Collection”. Is this a new one? Also this was used as an illustration in Seduction of the Innocent as noted on my humble Al Williamson copy above. I wasn’t aware that it was also used in Parade of Pleasure. I might be wrong and it could be used in both. Overstreet lists it as SOTI but not POP. You might be sending this in for another reholder. @SOTIcollector
  3. Seems like they are really focused on small overhang tears. Many would actually be considered production faults. If trimming is allowed as blue, I can see some folks trimming their overhangs to avoid the overhang tear stigma…
  4. I agree and frankly, that cover has never really done much for me. I only got it because of the interior and I am a completist.
  5. Nice, and so cheap compared to the comic. And if you had them both in slabs, you wouldn’t know what was or wasn’t inside anyway.
  6. There was a Shindig game? My sister used to watch that show…
  7. I love the Tomahawk stories in Star Spangled and his own title. Great period Revolutionary War stories.
  8. The only time I ever heard of a mystery box work out was for a co worker. He wasn’t a collector but inherited his dad’s collection. He decided to go to a comic con and purchased a mystery box. The big prize was a Stan Lee autographed book which of course he didn’t get. He did, however get a high grade Black Cat Mystery #50. He had no idea what it was and was disappointed until I told him what it was worth. He was shocked. So, it can work out I guess…
  9. Got an awsome EC today from a great boardie. I never knew there were Al Williamson file copies. I love personal file copies from creators especially EC folks. These boards are the best place around to find books sometimes.
  10. Got an Awsome book from Cory today. Very fast shipping and communication. Great packing and an all round great transaction. Thanks!
  11. Since I threw this thread off the rails, might as well do it one more time. Courtesy of the boards only @Surfing Alien I give you “The Head of a Traveler”. Every bit as “sicko” as many of its comic book counterparts. So affordable. What would this go for if it were a comic book?…
  12. Got a great PB from Lowell. Prompt, professional service and a great guy to deal with. He even sent me a related freebee. Highly recommended!
  13. I have never used WhatNot so I have no opinion. I will say it is a “mystery” to me why anyone would buy mystery boxes even more bid on them. The whole premise is for dealers to dump junk and to take advantage of those with a gambling problem. I guess someone might “win” something but the odds are very much stacked in the house’s favor. I prefer to know exactly what I am spending my money on. I avoid sites like this and IG due to lack of information. Too many shifty situations for me. You get what you pay for…
  14. The service of grading, encapsulating and accurately noting all pertinent information on the label.
  15. I have been to Australia many times. Like anywhere I go, I always look for junk. I have only found old comics once. I believe they are as hard to find in the wild as old US comics are here.
  16. Well, I guess it is pretty obvious that it is a Halloween cover…but since it is and I specificaly requested and I paid for the service, I was a little disappointed. Customer Service has nothing to do with it. This comes from someone further down the food chain. My books are special to me. I buy them for a reason. Unless I am incorrect, I feel I should be entitled to have what I want on them since I am paying for the service.
  17. I believe most of mine do. Although they are fairly substandard printing wise, and obviously worth less than the US versions. They are a lot scarcer though. The “Weird Suspenstories” issues are very rare and bring big money on the rare occasions they turn up.
  18. In my opinion, his collection should be noted on the label. He is, one of the “founding fathers” of EC fandom. CGC seems to be a bit hesitant to label some books from collectors on their labels unless they were creators. Jon Berk and Nicholas Cage are some that come to mind as well as a few others. I guess it depends who submits and how many books are submitted. A sad example of omission a few years ago were Jerry Garcia’s EC collection. They were sold raw by a large auction house. The buyers tried to get CGC to recognize them and when they wouldn’t the buyers went to the “other” grading company to have it done. I was going to submit my EC annuals a few years ago but wanted the contents listed on the labels. My TOT #1 has 3 first horror issues and one 2nd Sci Fi issue. Since contents are totally random, I felt this made my copy a bit unique. I didn’t want to lose the importance to me in a slab. I was told no. Since that time, apparently Jim Halperin was able to “convince” them to do so. I was so turned off that I have yet to submit them.
  19. Yes, wrote it on the submission slip as instructed at the show. I also to have it noted that it was a file copy from the estate of Art Lawson and supplied a copy of the paperwork when I bought it. Either they wouldn’t accept David T Alexander’s word for it or didn’t feel Lawson was worthy. I felt it was a piece of pulp history and have slipped my copy in the bag with the pulp for posterity. Pretty sure there are very few Halloween cover collectors and even fewer who know who Art Lawson is or care.
  20. I got it many years ago from David T Alexander. He stated it was from the estate of Art Lawson who wrote a story inside. He had a bunch from his estate but I only got this one. All looked like unread file copies. Let’s just say “I fell in love” with the cover. If I knew then what I know now, I would have bought more…
  21. The wonderful world of pulps. Every day is a new discovery for me. Too many pulps and not enough money or storage space.
  22. I’ve got some boxes like that top shelf. I get into them frequently but am damn careful when I do. Still got a strong back. No problem with long boxes and even pulled a motor out of my motorcycle recently. I am blessed so far…
  23. I was a hustler from a very young age. I started out digging out pop bottles at the beach and in alley trash cans. 3 cents for small ones and 5 cents for big ones. Would trade in at the local liquor store for comics, gum cards and candy. Graduated to cutting lawns with a push mower at a buck a lawn. Progressed to a paper route and graduated to a box boy at the local market at 14. Been working ever since. Retired now but still doing freelance graphic design work. My parents raised me right…
  24. I’d have grabbed a copy of Film Fun and Breezy stories if I were there…
  25. Cheating again but couldn’t resist. Just got this one back from CGC. I thought they were a little hard on this one. Was sad to see they didn’t label it as a Halloween cover and the fact that it is a writer’s file copy. I provided the paperwork I got from David T Alexander but they didn’t buy it. One of my favorite romance covers weather a comic or a pulp. Probably the highest and only copy on the census.
