  1. Ran into a weird item. Anybody see one of these? Hardbound MAD paperback book. Are there others?
  2. “Pointing out the faults” is the oldest trick in the book. As if the seller doesn’t know it? I would tell you the price reflects the condition and if you want to do that dance. I would ask you what it would go for in better condition? If we are reasonably close, make me a fair realistic offer. You will probably get it with out the stupid “condition dance”. If you don’t like the price, the ball is in your court. The only time I might even consider shooting myself in the foot, is if I can live without the book or it isn’t a high demand book. But of course every pulls this with the “good stuff” or “keys”. That stuff I am more than willing to wait on.
  3. I know sacentaur wrote a bit for the magazine. Some great Centaur stuff which at the time knew nothing about. Perhaps he will chime in here...
  4. How about a fun little Schomburg Harvey Green Hornet run?
  5. I should just go back to lurking like most people do. But I'm a giver not just a taker... Any more lazy questions? And no, I don't know where the Ark of the Covenent is...
  6. Johnny Craig, am I the only one around here that know how to use that new fangled internet thing? http://drgangrene.blogspot.com/2010/03/ghoulunatics.html
  7. The original poster will probably sell you his kit for $7K...
  8. Just don't ask me so many questions, I'm a certified CA apprasier of collectibles. I usually charge for my time...
  9. From the “ I think I’ve seen everything “ collecting MAD stuff” department. Roosevelt era political envelope
  10. A friend of mine bought this at the flea market yesterday because he thought it was unusual and gave it to me. I think so too. Anybody else ever see a hardbound MAD paperback?
  11. I was very good friends with Gary Coddington. We met over a couple boxes of GA comics at the Azusa swap meet. We hit all the used book stores like the Book Nook in Pasadena. He was a little older than me and drove me down to Hollywood to Cherokee, Collectors and Bond Street Books. We went to each other’s houses many times. He let me read his Action #1 and Superman #1. I still have the Superman #24 I got from him. His brother collected Batman and had a Tec #27 which I also got to read. Gary had an amazing collection. Not just comics but toys, premiums, movie posters and the like. Probably, the most serious collector I ever met up to that point. Sadly, Gary had serious kidney problems and passed away in his very early 40’s. His father and brother sold off his collection for real decent prices in the day. Bruce Hamilton was a major buyer I believe.
  12. Glad you liked them and are reading them Rick. Such a time capsule of comic fandom. Every issue had something of interest. The early ads and the letters columns were great. So many of these people are now gone or moved on. Quite a number of us are still here though. I remember buying them every month at Richard Kyle’s Wonderworld comic store. I miss Richard. Lots of talk about comics with him. He was one of the “old guys” at the time who bought early GA and ECs off the racks. Between this magazine and guys like Richard, I quickly left the SA behind and moved into the wild world of GA. Just a note, Richard was good friends with Kirby and Royer and had at any given time, 20 or so Kirby pages and covers on the wall for sale at $100 for a page and $150. For a cover. Never had that kind of money at the time so I never got any...
  13. Here’s a shot of Russ Cochran’s 50th anniversary 2000 edition of the RC Fanaddict kit. He made very few of them and I rarely see them. I of course, hung on to mine with my stiff bony fingers!
  14. Thought EC guys would like to see the activity list and guest list. I can’t even imagine how much fun this 3 days were if you were an EC Fanaddict. Not to mention buying all the ECs you could carry at 1972 prices. I my old faded memory serves me, the Shock, Crime, and War books were going for around $2-3 each (including CSS #22!) Horror was $3-5 each and the Sci-Fi was around $5-7 each. Still a princely sum to me at the time. I had to be satisfied with all the “other” PCH for 50 cents to a buck apiece, raw, in boxes under the tables. Believe me, I bought stacks of them which I still mostly have.
  15. I missed this one in NY in 1972. I was young, poor and didn't even know about it until a friend in NY told me about it. This was an even greater line up of EC people. I would have died and gone to heaven to have been there. I have the complete kit as a consolation prize...
  16. Still got mine as well as the other hard to get larger badge. I got mine from Jack Kamen himself. I was late for the dinner and too late to get one of these. I was seated at Jack's table and he was ever so kind to give me his. A great guy, great night and great con. One of the best SDCCs I ever attended. I probably spent more time at panels, autograph sessions and photo ops than I did buying books. You can always buy books but I knew at the time. Spending time with these people was far greater. Sadly, all gone now...
  17. Bring ‘em on Steve. We all love pulps in any grade and any title here. Welcome to the boards!
  18. Beautiful colors on a beautiful copy Corey. This is every bit as good as any of his romance covers. On a lot of Bakers, this is a unicorn grade wise.
  19. That’s the way I look at it. A great deal is a gift. Take it and say thanks. I have paid full price many times when the Gods smile down on me.
