I'm selling at Long Beach this weekend. Typically you get some dealers walking around trying to pick up keys for their booths or collection or whatever. But, they usually want major discounts which wouldn't be wise to give. I'm there to make a little profit. Sure, if they pay my price they can have them (which is rare). In the end, all of the inventory is ready for sale from the start of the first day.

    Bringing any GA books?

LOL!  Dang that sounds crazy!  There must be a piranha feeding frenzy that happens during dealer setup.  It must be quite a site to see.  The hunter dealers must be watching the the loading docks and entrances like hawks for each new dealer prey that arrives and pounce on them.  As a rookie dealer you'd probably have to endure some relentless offers and assaults before you even made it to your booth.

Yeah, maybe I'll just email all the dealers my want list with condition and offer prices and make some pre-con purchases.  At worst, the dealers can start with that as the floor and fend off lowball offers from other dealers.  Guess I'll be attending Baltimore flipper con on Friday and Sunday only hoping to buy at 1st flipped prices.

A feeding frenzy indeed. I once had a major dealer going through the boxes I had in my van while I was loading the cart. Of course he found the "not for sale" box. Some personal books I brought to show some people. Of course, he didn't want to help me with load in, so I told him to scram. I've been elbowed and grunted at while looking at a dealer's boxes. I even had another major dealer pulling books out of my take pile! I'm one of those people who don't take the lids off until the show opens. I'm sure I miss sales, but the dealers all swarm in as soon as I let them.

I don't care for funny animals.  I would not spend the money on those type of books.  I used to collect romance book.  I found that I enjoyed the BA ones the best though.  These days, if I collect anything it is DC comics.  Those GAs are out of my price range.

The belief that GA books are out of your price range is probably not true. I buy cool books very cheap all the time. High grade, iconic characters, early stuff yes, maybe. You just got to lower your expectations a little. And some funny animal and romance books are cooler than you might think.

Great find RM, and very cool stuff from your friend. Hope he does join up; if RM is dreaming about what he just saw on his visit , that must be one helluva collection :tink:

It is, oh it is. I was so hung up on the art, I hardly noticed the rest. He would hand me a stack of stuff and I could barely focus on it.

@Robot Man I was told that, at the time that I submitted these, the Salida collection was so new at that the store stamps weren't recognized.  I'm sure that if I were to resubmit them they would be properly noted and I think they might bump up a bit in grade, but why waste the money or a resub?

I see your point. None of mine are even slabbed at all. Just looked like they missed them. The markings are well known if you decided ever to sell them. Kind of odd that they noted the one with out the "Cookies" stamp.

Odd, how CGC got #72 labeled as a Salida but completely missed #80 and 83. They are very clearly identified. Makes me wonder how good they are at identififying Pedigrees... West would have never missed this.  Who is in charge of that process now?

  7. OK, guys, I've officially died and gone to the great comic book museum in the sky...

I had the great honor of seeing stuff that literally burned the retinas of my eyes.

I went over to a good friend house today to help him with a project he is working on. While there, I got to see one of the best collections I have ever seen. I told him about the boards and we looked at it. I suggested that he sign up and come here for some help. Hopefully, he will. I'm sure if he does, he will be given the warm board welcome that I got. He is also an "old timer" that has gotten to do things in collecting we can only dream about. We need more people like this. I might add, a real "true collector" with an intense love of the medium. And he is also one of the most modest collectors I can think of.

I asked him if I could take a few photos to share here and he kindly said OK. I won't out of respect, show you any more. I will let him do that if he choses.

First up, for guys like Rick and me who love Albert B Feldstein, I give you this. This was Feldstein's pencil study of a book that was sadly never published. Bill squelched it. How cool would this series have been?

I love the SA stories-but then I grew up with them.  GA stories bore me to tears but the covers are magnificent.

I can understand that. I also grew up in the SA. Most superhero stuff bores me now. Even the movies. Maybe I've just read too much of it. I will say that I never get tired of reading ECs or Carl Barks Ducks. A rare case where the stories and art converge for a wonderful experience.
