  1. Blunted corners with color breaking creases, color breaking scratches/creases along edges and in price box, long vertical color breaking crease along spine, minor spine wear with multiple color breaking spine ticks/stress lines, slightly discolored staples, minor spine roll, dimples/finger bends/small tears along top edge of rear cover, minor staining/foxing/discoloration of rear cover. IMO...VG+ 4.5 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present. 4.5 VERY GOOD+ (VG): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): Back to Top The average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple.
  2. Blunted corners with color breaking creases at the outside corners, upper edge wear with color loss and a small color breaking scratch, minor spine stress with a couple of color breaking spine ticks/stress lines, minor spine roll, minor foxing/discoloration along the edges/spine of rear cover. The way the book sits right now, IMO...FN 6.0 to FN+ 6.5 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. 6.5 FINE+ (FN+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  3. I agree with your assesment of a VG/FN 5.0, however, if the back cover cleans up nicely maybe a FN- 5.5 to FN 6.0? FN 6.0 - Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. VG/FN 5.0 - Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. VG 4.0 - Can have moderate creases or dimples. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. GD/VG 3.0 - Can have a book-length crease and/or dimples. Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed.
  4. Blunted corners with color breaking creases and tears, moderate edge wear with multiple color breaking creases and what appears to be a piece missing from the top edge, multiple/numerous moderate color breaking horizonal/vertical/diagonal creases across cover, moderate to severe spine stress with long spline splits at the top and bottom, minor spine roll, long color breaking diagonal crease on rear cover, small horizonal tear along spine of rear cover, Unfortunately with the two large spine splits I cannot assign a grade higher than GD- 1.8 VG 4.0 - Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. GD/VG 3.0 - May have a spine split of anywhere from 1" to 1-1/2". GD 2.0 - May have up to a 2" spine split. FR/GD 1.5 - May have a spine split between 2" and 2/3 the length of the book. 2.0 GOOD (GD): Back to Top Shows substantial wear; often considered a "reading copy." Cover shows significant wear and may even be detached. Cover reflectivity is low and in some cases completely absent. Book-length creases and dimples may be present. Rounded corners are more common. Moderate soiling, staining, discoloration and foxing may be present. The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square, although some Silver Age books such as 1960s Marvels have had the price corner box clipped from the top left front cover and may be considered Good if they would otherwise have graded higher. Tape and other forms of amateur repair are common in Silver Age and older books. Spine roll is likely. May have up to a 2" spine split. Staples may be degraded, replaced or missing. Moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached. Moderate interior tears may be present. 1.8 GOOD- (GD-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Good but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 1.5 FAIR/GOOD (FR/GD): Back to Top Shows substantial to heavy wear. Books in this grade are commonly creased, scuffed, abraded, soiled, and possibly unattractive, but still generally readable. Cover shows considerable wear and may be detached. Almost no cover reflectivity remaining. Book-length creases, tears and folds may be present. Rounded corners are increasingly common. Soiling, staining, discoloration and foxing is generally present. Up to 1/10 of the back cover may be missing. Tape and other forms of amateur repair are increasingly common in Silver Age and older books. Spine roll is common. May have a spine split between 2" and 2/3 the length of the book. Staples may be degraded, replaced or missing. Staple tears and stress lines are common, as well as rust migration. Paper is brown and may show brittleness around the edges. Acidic odor may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached. Interior tears are common.
  5. Blunted corners, chipping along the outer edge along with color breaking vertical creases, chipping on upper edge by spine, minor to moderate color rub in the black areas of the front cover, crease at lower left corner of rear cover, creasing/denting along outer edge of rear cover, light spine stress/stress lines on rear cover, moderate foxing on rear cover. If the staining/discoloration on the rear cover is indeed foxing, it cannot be removed, foxing is biological in nature and is part of the paper itself, as far as the chipping, I do not know how CGC will look at that, I am unsure as to weather chipping was still an issue in the 70's as it was for Marvel in the 60's, if they determine it is bindery related the book will not take as much of a hit, if it is not bindery... Foxing/Staining/Discoloration FN/VF 7.0 - Minor foxing. FN 6.0 - minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. VG/FN 5.0 - minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. VG 4.0 - Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. GD/VG 3.0 - Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed. The first mention of pieces missing is in... VG 4.0 - As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. GD/VG 3.0 - A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. GD 2.0 - The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square, As the book sits right now, as is, IMO...VG/FN 5.0 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book.
  6. Because of my own personal cutoff points of runs I have very few that are complete from the very beginning to the actual end.
  7. Comic books are graded in their entirety, however, for creases only... As already stated above, post clear picks of the book (front and rear covers, spine, corners, etc.) in the... https://boards.cgccomics.com/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/ NM 9.4 - A 1/16" bend is permitted with no color break. NM- 9.2 - A 1/16-1/8" bend is permitted with no color break VF/NM 9.0 - An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. VF 8.0 - An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. FN/VF 7.0 - Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. FN 6.0 - Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases.
  8. That was/is a rare occurrence, you know what would happen if we did that...it's one of "Murphy's" laws. Some people smoke/drink/do drugs/womanize and eat whatever and however much they want and live to be 100 with no health problems (Keith Richards?), that is not the norm, 99% of folks that do that would have Cholesterol issues, Diabetes, Heart and Lung Disease, High Blood Pressure, Liver/Kidney Disease at the age of 40, are you willing to take that chance? Last year my sister asked me if I could sell her Romance Comic Books (about 30 books from the 50's/60's/70's) and I agreed, she gave them to me in a bag, when I got home the first one I took from the bag fell apart in my hands from brittleness, the others were not quite so bad. I sent her pics of the small brittle pieces of comic book all over my table just from touching it and I asked her where they were stored, she said "in the attic, why, should I have not put them there? So, I stand by my statement, no unfinished basements, garages or attics, at least for me and my books.
  9. The only things I see are very slight blunting of the upper/lower corners at the spine and that the cover wrap is not properly trimmed on the outer edge and not properly centered. Looking online that seems to be common with this book (to different degrees) although I did find one copy on eBay that was perfectly trimmed and centered. IMO...VF/NM 9.0 - NM- 9.2 9.2 NEAR MINT- (NM-): Back to Top Nearly perfect with only a minor additional defect or defects that keep it from Near Mint. A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with only the slightest dimming of reflectivity. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16-1/8" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed. 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): Back to Top Nearly perfect with outstanding eye appeal. A limited number of bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is almost flat with almost imperceptible wear. Inks are bright with slightly diminished reflectivity. An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. Several lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable. Very minor foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Only the slightest staple tears are allowed. A very minor accumulation of stress lines may be present if they are nearly imperceptible. Paper is off-white to cream and supple. Very minor interior tears may be present.
  10. Congrats on owning an F.F. 2. Nice to have an F.F. 2 in any grade. Unfortunately that book is a PR 0.5. Recent eBay Sold Auctions For F.F. 2 in PR 0,5...a Graded (NG) Coverless book sold for $207.00, a raw/coverless book with a facsimile cover sold for $166.00, a PR 0.5 - FR 1.0 raw book (not as bad as your copy) missing the pinup sold for $360.00, a coverless raw copy missing one page sold for $219.50. 0.5 POOR (PR): Back to Top Sufficiently degraded to the point where there is little or no collector value; easily identified by a complete absence of eye appeal. Brittle almost to the point of turning to dust with a touch, and usually incomplete. Extreme fading may render the cover almost indiscernible. May have extremely severe stains, mildew or heavy cover abrasion to the point that some cover inks are indistinct/absent. Covers may be detached with large chunks missing. Can have extremely ragged edges and extensive creasing. Corners are rounded or virtually absent. Covers may have been defaced with paints, varnishes, glues, oil, indelible markers or dyes, and may have suffered heavy water damage. Can also have extensive amateur repairs such as laminated covers. Extreme spine roll present; can have extremely ragged spines or a complete, book-length split. Staples can be missing or show extreme rust and discoloration. Extensive staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as extreme rust migration. Paper exhibits moderate to severe brittleness (where the comic book literally falls apart when examined). Extreme acidic odor may be present. Extensive interior tears. Multiple pages, including the centerfold, may be missing that affect readability. Coupons may be cut. Restoration: IMO...Save your money and buy a nicer copy if that is what you want. Having The Book Graded: IMO...If the book is as fragile/brittle as you say, what is the point, it will probably get worse if you have to ship it to CGC, 1st, USPS handles the package, then, many hands at CGC touch the book, then it is encapsulated, packaged and shipped back. Nothing bad can happen there. I have nothing against having books graded and encapsulated if it is the right book, not every book is a good candidate for grading. Encapsulating the book does not prevent further damage or offer any more protection than a Mylite and Acid Free Board other than human hands can never touch it again. CGC cases are not airtight nor are they UV protected, they must be stored in the same proper, environmental conditions as raw books. (Constant Temp/Humidity (60 -70 degrees 40%-50% Humidity), away from all UV, not stored near any air vents, not stored near sources of heat and moisture, not stored in a unfinished basement/garage/attic, not left sitting around so Mom could throw it out, Wait, that was me in the 60's, sorry, brain drifted off. ) Getting that book into a Mylite may prove to be difficult, my suggestion would be a UV protected frame, this way it is not being touched, not being forced into a bag where it may fall apart even more and you can display the book if you so choose without having to touch it or worry about UV. https://www.bcwsupplies.com/comic-book-showcase-silver-uv You may also be able to find a Facsimile Cover. Hope this info was helpful, personally, I would enjoy the book as is.
  11. Book does not appear to by lying flat on it's own, lower edge wear with color loss, blunted lower corners with color breaking creases, long color breaking scratch about 1" up from lower edge, moderate spine stress at lower half of spine with multiple color breaking stress lines, slight spine roll, small dings/dents on upper edge of rear cover, color breaking crease/scratch on rear cover outer edge through the shoes, minor to moderate staining (discoloration/tanning/dust, sun shadow) on rear cover along spine. IMO...VG/FN 5.0 to FN- 5.5 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. 5.5 FINE- (FN-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. 12. I will be my favorite number years old in August.

  14. Small bindery tears top and bottom, slight edge wear with some color loss, a couple of very light spine ticks, lower right corner blunted with what appears to be some sort of rub damage along the outer edge above that corner and the top left corner on the rear cover, very small (1/16"?) tear/piece missing/crunch at top edge of rear cover, rear cover not trimmed properly. IMO...VF+ 8.5 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): Back to Top Nearly perfect with outstanding eye appeal. 8.5 VERY FINE+ (VF+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  15. Lower corners are blunted, 1/4" spine split at lower spine, multiple areas of color rub/color breaking scratches on cover, minor spine wear with color breaking stress lines and wrinkles, slight staple tears, some staining/discoloration at the top right corner/edges. The book looks better than the grade I am assigning, however, due to the spine split, IMO...FN 6.0 to FN+ 6.5 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal.
  16. Blunted corners with color breaking creases/color loss at the top right and lower left corners, vertical/diagonal color breaking scratches on the upper/outer/lower edges, minor spine wear with a few color breaking spine ticks/stress lines, cover wrap is off center and a minor spine roll, tear at lower edge of rear cover, some staining along spine of rear cover. If the rear cover tear was not present I would have graded this book in FN+ 6.5 to FN/VF 7.0. With the tear, IMO...FN 6.0 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  17. Cover is not completely centered, 1-2 color breaking spine ticks, discoloration/staining in the logo, it appears the cover and pages are not properly aligned at the lower right, slight foxing on rear cover. IMO... 9.2 NEAR MINT- (NM-): Back to Top Nearly perfect with only a minor additional defect or defects that keep it from Near Mint. A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with only the slightest dimming of reflectivity. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed.
  18. Small bindery tear at top of spine, small ding with color loss at lower right corner of rear cover, not a spine roll but the pages do not properly align, slight color rub on rear cover. IMO...
  19. All of the photos I posted back in 2016 are gone, so here we go again with some Harvey Comics all #1's.(except for Sad Sack 2) The coverless issue is Sad Sack #1 from 1949, 1st Little Dot.
  20. Top edge/corner wear with some color loss, some spots of slight color loss on the outer/lower edges, minor spine wear with multiple color breaking spine ticks/stress lines, especially near top of spine, bindery tear at lower spine, slightly discolored staples, slight foxing on rear cover. IMO... 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal.
  21. Slightly blunted corners, two pieces torn/folded over on top edge with a third tear present, moderate tanning on all edges of front/rear covers and interior pages, minor spine wear with multiple spine ticks/stress lines. Without the tanning and top edge issues this book would have been in the FN/VF 7.0 - VF- 7.5, with these defects, I do not see this book grading higher than a VG/FN 5.0. VG/FN 5.0 and up - No pieces allowed missing VG 4.0 - As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. GD/VG 3.0 - A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. GD 2.0 - The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square
