A comic etched in my childhood memory and I was able to acquire it. I love it from the use of Vulture's silouette, to the negative space and lasty Spidey in the Pieta pose holding the injured flight attendant. Giacoa inks finish off this amazing Saviuk cover like a cherry on top.

Cant go wrong with a Saviuk cover.   :x

    From my CAF

Occasionally I'll see here a story about how some wife or girlfriend was amazing and bought an incredible piece of art for their significant other. Every time I saw something like that, I wished that my wife had enough comic knowledge to do the same. Let me be clear, my wife rocks and after 9 years of marriage I'm still super stoked I get to be with her. But, for as supportive as she is about my enjoyment of comics, she doesn't share that passion. Well, this Christmas, she blew me away with this surprise:

I can't be 100% sure because as a kid my love of super heroes didn't actually start with comic books - I didn't start collecting until much later so I didn't really keep track. But one of the very first (if not the first) comics I owned was Superman 121. The story wasn't really action packed (although it's amazing how relevant it still is today), but the cover really grabbed me - very powerful. Well, many years later I learned that cover was hanging in a local comic shop. I'm sure I showed my wife on one of the 2 occasions she's ever been there with me, but I was also sure she was only half paying attention. Boy was I wrong.

Without so much as hinting, she went to the shop and opened a negotiation with the owner to buy it for me. Took her a couple days of calling an going back in, but he finally let it go. An incredible gift and my first OA cover, from possibly the first book I ever owned (did I mention my wife rocks?)

Awesome cover, awesome story and even more awesome wife.

  3. I definitely think Nostalgia plays a role. It may not affect everyone to the same degree but Im sure theres quite a few who would agree.  Of course, an entire art collection wouldn't be dedicated to it because of availability of the artwork and pricing.  That being said, I think there are phases for the new collectors where they initially hit the ground running trying to acquire it but seeing that a lot of it is already in private collections/CAF they would gravitate towards newer art for the sake of having some artwork in their collection.  I myself would love to add some 90s artwork but seeing how it may not always be readily available I tend to get what I see appealing now (but I still keep my eyes open for it).

    Art sales on social media

I keep seeing beautiful modern pieces posted on CAF (splashes, covers, DPS), from name artists posted just after a book's solicitation and fresh off the drawing board. So my question is...

Given that I am not on mainstream social media and don't review new book solicitations on the web, how much of the A/A+ art am I missing out on?

I've gotten one piece of not-yet-posted art and it was a prime example, but that was through a cold email query to a rep. How many of you are buying these types of modern pieces artist-direct on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.?

That's a good question.  I was wondering the same thing so began checking out various artist's FB pages.  Ive seen some of the newer artists post their artwork on FB and instagram but they also have a main website where you can purchase from.  But as far as A/A+ stuff, I think those guys either have reps now on known dealer sites or don't even sell their work.

Overlays are fine but it should be disclosed.  People should know exactly what they're buying.
Clearly creating overlays are for profit and selling without disclosure is dishonest.

Permanently adding something that wasn't there to begin with is worse and brings down the value to me.

    +1

Wow, what a bargain for that classically remastered highly desirable famous image on a super rare variant cover of arguably the most popular series put out by Marvel starring one of its premiere characters soon to appear in the tremendously anticipated Spider-man: Homecoming which should break all box office records in North America as well as the overseas market where Spidey rulez the world.  :headbang:   #ASM25variant  #noinepointeight

    Well said.   :roflmao:

I have several frames made by "Frame it Again Sam" who used to make these quick change frames, but has apparently retired. The tops pop off and the art is behind plexi, but inside the frame there is a pocket with a mylite and an acid free backing board. Perfect for modern size pieces and allows me to swap things out regularly. I have this four frame set up in my office and change it out every couple of months so I can look at different things. Currently up are a Risso Batman/Joker  commission, a Question cover by Cowan/Sienkewicz, a Sandman commission by P. Craig Russell and a Silver Surfer cover recreation by Buscema of a cover  that I used to own the original of. These have been up for a few weeks so I will probably swap them out around the beginning of May.

Very cool display.  Feel free to show a close up of the Batman/Joker commission.  Would love to check out the detail.

  8. WTB Samurai Jack cover

Hey guys.   I wanted to see if I can pick up a Samurai Jack original art cover.  Looking for something with Aku or a battle sequence.  If anyone has one/several or can point me to the right direction Id appreciate it.

There must be some Sam Jack fans out there (special thanks to Eurion and Sooners151 for their help already (thumbsu).
