  1. My first comic I ever bought was a Fantastic Four 112 and I still own that original copy which is a miracle. I lived on a farm back then, and my Father wanted to get some rye bread and lunch meats as he liked to eat that with hot mustard. He would get headcheese ( yuck ) as he knew I didn't like it. We went into the city, and when we got there he gave me the change in his pocket and told me to "go to the used book store across the street and buy some comics" Paul's Book store was the place, and he had shelves and shelves of used books for sale at half cover. You could also trade 2 for 1. Fantastic Four 112 really stood out to me, that black cover and those powerful looking heroes ready to do battle. I really liked what I had read and collected the Hulk until I had them all. Decent feat for a kid age 14 with a paper route.
  2. Fair comment, and I can add that I think it is great that they are willing to give new people a chance. Now my hope is that the movie story/ content is spectacular and captures Star Wars in a way that enthralls fans
  3. I personally don't care who leads the show, but based on the trailers that have been shown I don't see why members of this forum can't post their opinions. I do hope the show is amazing.
  4. Yeah it made no sense in the show because the TV version of Echo does not have the same abilities as in the comic. The comic version is like the Taskmaster, she can perfectly replicate the fighting abilities of anyone she watches. So in this TV version it is like your sister who has taken some karate classes fighting DD. I especially liked the "move" where she holds her leg in the air mid fight, and DD just stands there waiting to see what she does, and Echo lets go of her leg swiping it at DD's face. It is painfully slow, and looks completely ineffective and it is as it doesn't faze DD in the slightest.
  5. another issue is the extremely vague description by CGC on exactly how much color touch there actually is on the book. I watched a friend crack open a Fantastic Four 45 that had the description "small amount of color touch on spine". Once opened and we could actually inspect the book it was revealed the entire spine was heavily touched as were other parts of the book at the top, bottom and sides. An estimate is 20% of the surface of the front cover was touched.
  6. here is a perfect example of how the color touch removal ruins / further destroys books and the process being completed purely for the blue label / profit.
  7. In fairness, she said the "make men uncomfortable" statement 8 years ago and it wasn't about Star Wars. That said, the statement "We're in 2024. It's about time we have a woman shape a story in a galaxy far, far away" that is recent and specifically about Star Wars and yeah I will skip it.
  8. I see enough going on with the book that my advice is to not submit it.
  9. I agree. Disney continues to make the same mistakes: No one cares about the gender, the sexual orientation, the pronouns or ideologies/religion of any of the creators, directors or actors involved in the projects.
  10. I had a buyer reject a slab because of that very issue. So it is of concern if it affects the potential resale since it isn't visually appealing.
  11. saw this last night. Average film in my opinion. About 2/3rds through I fell asleep for a bit but waken up to see the final 20 minutes and felt like I had missed nothing.
  12. I dispute the notation that selling a book that has a CGC blue label while knowing the book inside is missing the marvel value stamp is not committing fraud.
  13. CGC's flaw here is that they do not regrade the book when you submit for reholder. So what the scammer is doing is cracking the books out of the outer plastic, swapping the labels somehow and leaving the inner wells intact. Taking the labels out of the inner well sleeve was very easy, I have not cracked a book out in a while is it still easy to remove the label? He submits the lower quality book back to CGC likely inside the damaged outer case. To me the fix is either: 1. CGC must regrade all submissions even if it is simply because the outer case has been scuffed, scratched, damaged in anyway. 2. completely seal the label portion into the inner well (if they are not currently doing that) Regrade required for any older model slabs that come back where the label tampering is possible.
  14. Not know if that is current, but a year or so ago they were intending to call the X-Men "The Mutants".
  15. Met @thehumantorch at a local McDonald's parking lot in the city we live in to transfer some recently received books back from CGC. Going over the books with the back of my suv open a guy approached us and asked what we doing. "Oh - Looking at comics" he says, and he happens to have some in the interior coat pocket of the trench coat he was wearing: beat and folded Classics Illustrated and some low grade books of little interest, and when he asked what they were worth I told him the truth - very little. He demanded I buy them and for a very high amount of money and I told him I wasn't interested. That is when it turns C - R - A - Z - Y! He tells us he is going to take our comics. @thehumantorch tells him to eff-off and then the guy threatens us and tells us he has a gun. We told him off and then ignored him and he eventually wandered off towards the busy south side street we were near. And you thought this was a friendly and safe hobby!
  16. sorry to hear of his passing. A grim reminder that our time here is indeed short.
  17. I think the fans just want to see content that is faithful to the original creations. The Silver Surfer is a man, his name is Norrin Radd and he sacrificed himself for the preservation of his world. Anything else will be a mistake in my opinion because it isn't what people have been reading for 50 years. If Disney wants to make the herald of galactus female then choose a female character as there have been female heralds. I am aware there was a female Silver Surfer that was published but I am willing to bet most of the public do not know of that version of the herald.
