  1. I like the term "variant" in relation to the UK and Filipino books, as they are "variations" to the American edition. I mean that in a physical, literal sense. They seem to use the same plates with modifications. Though the Filipino does have different ads, there is nothing inherently "filipino" about the book. The creation of the books were not intended to be new "editions," but close representations of the original printing. The Mexican "editions" are wholly new physical books. Translated text, different plates, new publisher, different paper, new ads, etc. They were created for a Mexican audience using American source material. I very much disagree with the use of the term "reprints," as these are not physical re-printings from the original American plates. They "re-publish" previously released American material, but many of these new "editions" only used their new printing plates ONE time. If they were printed twice, we would not call them "reprint reprints." They would need to be called first Mexican edition, 2nd printing. It's difficult to define many foreign editions as there are so many variations of publishing situations. I doubt we will ever fully agree on definitions. The most important part of choosing definitions is understanding what is out there and what needs to be classified. I find that people who loudly argue over these definitions are usually basic collectors. Those who do not fully understand how many publishing variations of American material exist. Until now, many people have been comfortable just calling everything, that isn't the first American edition, a reprint. I am enjoying the conversation in this thread, as we may not all agree, but at least there is serious thought going into these opinions.
  2. Very nice. I have found Batman 400 to be one of the tougher CPV's to find.
  3. That high school paper article!! You're research is insane! Well done. Excellent article. I wish more collectors in this hobby could appreciate the research and the fun of tracking down such obscure origins. The moment you mention a preview or ad, it seems the torches instantly come out.
  4. Here's some books I just received from Brazil. Been searching for these for many years. They are the only foreign editions published with these gothic romance covers.
  5. Just because this is the first time Boba Fett is on a cover doesn't make it a first cover appearance. We have extremely loose guidelines that we will defend to the death over these types of definitions. 😂
  6. Can I throw a cog in the monkey wrench pile real quick? April 12th 1980, pre-dating even the Empire paperback. 😂 Of course it's "just an ad," but not all ads are created equal. This one is f@$%ing awesome. I'm surprised no one has made this a T-shirt.
  7. I don't see much Gold Key posted on here. This is one of my favorite covers of the Boris Karloff run. I also found this little digest from France, published in 1972. They swiped those zombies! 😂
  8. And here is a copy of Captain Marvel Jr. where they first inform readers about the switch to Marvelman Jr. Also very scarce. Issue 25 of this volume would be retitled "Marvelman Jr." and would be his first appearance.
  9. Here's one that took me years to find. This is from L. Miller's UK Captain Marvel series. This is the book where they first informed readers they would be switching from Captain Marvel to Marvelman. Issue 25 of this volume would be the first appearance and first retitled "Marvelman" issue. This is the character that Alan Moore would reboot and ultimately become Miracleman in the US.
  10. And one more cool international Wrightson variation. This one is from Quebec
  11. Here's a little ghost of a book you dont see everyday. From Australia.
  12. I received one of those Cyborg comics as a kid. Those were a video store giveaway. I have never seen one in the wild but i'm actually surprised how many you can find on ebay. Maybe no one wants them? I can think of a few more video store giveaways that are real ghosts. That would be a good list
  13. I've never seen a copy in real life and i'm a digger.
  14. Picked this up last night at my LCS. I know it's not modern but I thought you guys would like to see it anyway. It's a book you definately "can't find in the wild." The kid at the counter told me they must have just got it in but had no idea where it came from. 1 of 4 on the census. 9.6 is the highest graded. This is argueably Dave Stevens first cover. He has two known published works before this one including Creature 1, a cover (imo) he inked but did not do any of the linework.
  15. There are 4 different Pressman variants. The X-Men game came with 1 of 3 different issues or a mail-away coupon for a 4th. This 4th one is obviously the toughest to find.
  16. In my humble opinion, I believe NS Batman 655 is currently undervalued and has the best long term potential. It feels like a sleeper. That newsstand is 100X harder to find than the variant.
  17. Have many of the Legends figures been released with multiple books like Blade? I'm surprised that there is not much "deeper" information published by collectors about Legends figures online
  18. What's confusing is the dates. The figure is from 2003. All the internet resources give the book a 2005 date. Do you have a photo of the figure in package with this book? I can't find a photo anywhere. Do you have a source for your information? Been trying to find hard evidence on this thing and i'm coming up short. thank you for the help. i appreciate it
  19. Thank you. Do you have a copy or know how it was distributed?
  20. Here's a question for you hunters. I found a couple references to this book online. Two sources say published in 2005. One source says "movie giveaway" and another says Marvel Legends edition. There were no Blade figures produced anytime between 2003 and 2013. I can't find this book available anywhere, no sold or active listings. Does anyone here own this or know conclusively where it came from?
