  1. Here and there I've read that there is original art stored at the museum, including the OA to Amazing Fantasy 15 (?). I'm heading to Washington for the first time in July and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the subject, if it is there, whom to contact (Museum of Modern Art? or American History? etc), or has seen any of it there. Thanks for any thoughts on the matter!
  2. I was fortunate enough to get a really great commission for the ever-excellent Bob McLeod, 11 x 17 Kraven's Last Hunt -- will post as soon as I scan it. I'm thinking about getting it coloured, anyone have any experience commissioning someone to do that? Ballpark price range for an amateur? I'll probably surf deviantart.com and see if I can find something, but was looking for any advice beforehand... my tastes range to older school base colours, with a minimum of filters and effects...more pastel than shiny. Think Dave Stewart over "modern" colouring, which I really, really hate, in general. Thanks for any thoughts! Mike
  3. great report! looks like you scored with those commissions!
  4. I'd add the link to the eBay auction but I'm in a rush and don't know how to on these boards, it kicked out the one I tried...but $1800 BUY IT NOW !
  5. another signature-defiled page? Walking Dead cast Ouch. Would it be so wrong to have had it signed on the back? If art is really meaningful to me, I've asked artists to do that...in pencil, . But this one is rough
  6. A newcomer's entry into the world of graded and slabbed books; a trip that started 30+ years ago A quick origin story. Like so many other kids, the GI Joe Hasbro cartoons and toys fascinated me as a child in the early to mid 80s. A trip to the grocery store yielded the familiar results: GI JOE issue 5, 1982. Then a few issues that were bagged with two super hero comics. And it begins. From there to discovering places like Now & Then Books in Kitchener. The early 90s ushered in the dual threat of a downswing in quality in the industry and the start of college and a career and I was out until I started playing Heroclix in 2004, which re-ignited my love of comics. That transitioned into original art around 2010. I feel happy with that collection and needed a new fix recently this year. I've got more books than I have time to read, more games than I have time to play, and more art than I have walls to display it on. I hadn't been a fan of slabbed books before but suddenly they made sense to me...I had long since sold off longbox after longbox of my singles, preferring Essentials and trades. But the idea of having some higher quality treasures back, in a preserved and highly displayable format, well, here I am! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here.
