  1. Yes the female thing was kind of indicated in #18 with the hand coming from someone wearing a pinkish long sleeved shirt. This is why I suspect he was still trying to devise something and was just flirting around tossing ideas back then. I don't believe the name Venom was in place in '86.
  2. Yup that's how it goes. Only thing is in Web of #24 its not clear that it's a "costumed" arm just an arm that appears black reaching out from a window because it may or may not be in a shadow. There's definitely no white patch on the hand! I'm pretty sure you're well aware there's no clear indication at all in either of the WOS issues of anything related to Venom.... And the revelation in the 90's from marvel that those issues reflected a "behind the scenes" Eddie Brock. My view is that Michelinie wanted to do something with the symbiote but hadn't yet decided on anything concrete so he flirted around with a character who hated Peter and could bypass the spidey sense. Marvel decided to retcon #18 years later as an offical appearance. Pretty sure you also knew that Btw there was an effort by Mcfarlane back then to hog up undue credit for Venom but I don't wanna digress...
  3. Sounds familiar, I recall reading once about a dispute they had along those lines. Another frustration Kane had was feeling like he was handcuffed when working on GL. He talked about everything having to revolve around "that damn ring" referring to the GL ring in an interview. I guess his grievances boiled over. Jim Shooter probably yelled at someone once or twice. Not the most charming guy on earth
  4. Hey guys, thought I'd change it up here a bit and put at least half a face to the ID. Be well and stay safe y'all! 😷🤘 By the way I'm not holding it hostage incase you're wondering
  5. I gotta give this DD thread some love too 🤘
  6. A wanna thank board member "Vintage comics" for this. Great seller to work with !
  7. Using whatever in house style there was back then probably would have killed his chances at the title. The covers were good but not so much the art. Thats Interesting... you sure about that? I never opened the platinum edition but don't remember it being in the silver. That was a lifetime ago however
  8. Web of annual #4 was released around late 88 about a year after 298. Ofcourse Mcfarlane had nothing to do with annual 4. I suspect maybe since the pinup is from 87 that Mcfarlane hadn't developed his definitive spidey style when he drew it then later altered the eyes for the poster I don't see the '87 in the poster
  9. well some believe in the divine "first chicken" theory. Personal view?...some prehistoric bird laid the egg. You and your damn derailments
  10. Symbiote spider-man #1 Mcfarlane variant cover from last year. I think it's one of those lower print incentive editions I believe the art is from 1988 originally. It was both a 100 piece jigsaw puzzle and a promotional poster. Don't know which came first?
  11. Funny to hear that pronunciation of "Wein". I always thought Wein was pronounced as "Wayne" with less emphasis on the E Thanks for the video!
  12. I don't know about you but I still see labias in the title. Its also still in the first post. Maybe a sneaky clickbait attempt .... just kidding. Curious if anyone knows if PayPal allows you to customize the insurable value on Ebay sales during the printing process? I think Ebay only allows insurable value to be what the item sold for.
  13. Likely because they don't offer insurance above a certain amount. USPS does. I think their boxes are the least of the problems. I agree with you 100% on everything else! Furthermore its possible to reach a FedEx customer service rep without waiting on hold for 2 hours.
  14. Well It's one way of dealing with them. I don't know that there's one "accepted" method. The drawback to that is the possibility of streaks or scratching from the cardboard being left behind as mentioned
  15. Yes the older slabs can "appear" to be defective on the sides to someone who's never seen them before. Hopefully it doesn't escalate to an opened case and the OP let's the buyer know that's how they were designed. Who the heck knows whether Ebay is knowledgeable enough on this if the buyer wants to raise enough of a stink? I would guess not . Probably best to communicate such details when selling older slabs before shipping to avoid these complaints
  16. If you love them both equally then I'd say the GSXM first. After that do some saving and maybe sell some stuff, get a laser focus on the best 129 you can find. I don't think you have to sacrifice one if you have the capacity to put some money away. Neither are tough to find. If there is a value increase across all grades chances are it'll be GSX so I think you should snatch that first
  17. Look at the census. 121 has 50% more Universal copies, but 300% more 9.8s and 120% more 9.6s. Yes census has much to do with it but also its because of the first page after the splash on #120. Alpha is first shown and identified all together in separate panels in their human form. In the last two pages Sasquatch is briefly shown as Sasquatch when he ambushes (human form) Wolverine. So 120 is considered the group's introduction appearance. 121 is first "full" appearance in Alpha's full costume. That appearance in 121 is a super cool splash page with both groups staring each other down in full form 🤘 I'm one #95 away from a 9.8-9.6 GSX1 to #100 run myself. Shouldn't be too long. I'll get there one of these days
  18. Last three (including the current one) have been problematic. All priority mail. Currently waiting on a high value slab from a boardie in the 4 figures requiring signature that's in limbo at the moment. Opened a case through the website on Monday when it says it was "delivered" and "signed for by CC". Forget trying to reach my local post office! That's a non starter. Getting someone on the phone calling the 1-800 number takes an hour IF I'm lucky! Anyway this particular thing of it being signed for by the carriers has happened before which I don't mind. They usually leave it in my parcel locker and that's fine but this time it's not there. These types of mishaps have been going on here for years so its not the current situation causing it. Sigh... I've gotten to the point of being surprised when things go smoothly with these incompetent clowns. I remember being upset when all they did was simply send my package to the wrong post office delaying it by a day. Lol I would love if that's all I had to worry about these days. They are unreliable, inefficient, unreachable and a giant headache! I would happily pay extra to avoid them! Imo they represent the downside of this hobby
  19. I think if its just a first app by a villain then it doesn't apply right? I have a really good bronze age where two good guys meet.
  20. IH 180 9.8 off white auctioned last Thursday on Heritage for one hell of a number. Pretty sure it's a record. GSXM 9.8 W in same auction also had what I think is a record result. This is not counting tax! Very impressive results with everything considered! Wolverine still has plenty of juice!!! Auctions like this are why people are asking above GPA for these big keys
  21. No I meant IH181 in general not that particular copy. I have seen that stamp before on a 9.2 though so maybe there is something happening with that copy?
  22. This book is scammed or fake sold more often than the sun comes up. Its ridiculous
