  1. I knew David and his brothers growing up in Omaha His Fathers Tailor shop was only 15/ mile from my House. It was then called Parsow's Big and Tall Mens Store I believe. I did not know him well as we were in different school systems. I do noy know about the father but the two sons I knew were both about 6'5" thus the TALL. Apparently the entire family had a genetic disposition for heart issues and two of the three sons died quite early David was quite a comic fan/collector/dealer and had acquired over 160000 books prior to meeting Stan. Over the last few years of Stans life David made many appointments to have Stan do private signings and had amassed about 8000 books signed by him. I can certainly understand some extra value to those books. OTOH it is hard to see why his unsigned 4th copy of say Spiderman 37 would have any extra value assigned to it. Between signing and grading fees for just the 8000 books he must have spent nearly a million His first auction of what I guess were his best signed copy of many of the early Marvels did quite well and brought in over 1.5mil as I recall. This most recent group seemed to have mostly unsigned copies.
  2. When I got into comics I enjoyed DC much more than marvel so those were the books I read in the late 60's When I got back into reading in the late 80's those were the characters I was familar with and wanted to see where the stories were going. As I began to "invest" in comics I bought many collections and started building my marvel collection while also adding many more DC Shifted my focus after a few less than pleasant internet deals and shifted to Four Colors via Trade about 15 years ago Still very happy with my silver age DC's even though the keys in that era are few and far between I am so enjoying having access to the images that Photobucket was holding hostage and then threatened to delete if I did not pay something
  3. Probably will be way too low buy I will pick 123 as that is my favorite issue of the Flash One of my first GOTTA have it issues when I restarted collecting 30 years ago
  4. nice to be able to grab and post a few. Working backward in this group of the first 300. So can anyone tell us what Tillie Toiled at?
  5. nice to be able to grap aand post a few. working backward in this group of the first 300
  6. I have probably upgraded the Bugs as it is not on my upgrade. OTOH Drift has been on my upgrade list since I first started increasing the quality as well as quantity of my collection. That one is still on the list. I think there are 3 of your current crop that would be excellant additions including the #2
  7. Here is another bunch of recently recovered images from the Bucket. Fixed the naming on about 150 images so far. Finding many duplicate images. SOme of them are of the books I have upgraded along the way, but most are just dups
  8. Another great set of books listed Glen. I have already put in placeholder bids on many I was shocked for how much the 235 Tiny Tim went for. I think last years O had guide for an 8.0 at like 40 I tapped out somewhere in the 200s Hammered at 1000 and with vig 1200 . effectively 30x Here are a couple more that were among that last added to Bucket.
  9. Just the task of organizing the images is quite a bit of work. In downloading from photobucket I noticed a number of duplicate images, not additional copies , but duplicates. went through the sub folders I had set up and deleted 303 extras and now have 1234 images many of which are back covers. Still have to fix the naming of over 700 of these before I can integrate them. Then the fun part will be to fiond and integrate all of the images taken since I stopped uploading to bucket. Here are the older imagtes of the books that I have in the range 4GEM mentioned for some reason one of the books will not upload.. It looks like most of these went on my very first UPGRADABLE list
  10. One of my earliest Four color trades from when I went to SDCC. I got 47 Four Colors including this one. I must have traded A key book for them As I am trying to recall I am thinking it was my undercopy of B&B 28
  11. So it turns out that I have three different numbering systems that I used over the years. First off i just called the image fc123 for example just the number but no space ( perhaps variants with a 2,3,or 4 digit number. Then I started adding the title after the number with or without a space. Finally I went with fc and a space followed by the number and then a space with the name. guess I have nearly 1000 images to adjust/fix the name on and another variant fcfs follwed by the number for the First Series. sure wish I had been able to add some of yours to the collection
  12. congrats on this round Hopefully your fantastic results will help to raise the boats of most of the rest of us who rarely play in the best copy on the census realm So happy to be liberating my images from bein held hostage at photobucket. WOuld love to be able to down load everything and close down the account by the end of the 3 month trial period Can hardly believe how easy it is to display large sorted group shots Will also be nice to add in all the images I have scanned, but never uploaded to the bucket
  13. So I found a box of Charleton . As I recalled there was a great run of both that title as well as Judomaster. Was the vigilante a Charlton character that DC took over lihe the others? I could not find anything under that title. I bought the DC peacemaker series just because I knew I had the the original run Had seceral Fightin Fives just not the #40 origin issue
  14. What is new in my silver age collection is that I now have access to my nearly 5K scans that I uploaded to photobucket MANY MANY years ago. After trying to force me to pay for the free account my both making free site nearly impossible to access because of adds and not allowing me to post the image, they finally got me to PAY. They threatened to delete the images so I signed on for 3 months and am mass downloading and then deleting the images Hope posting my entire DOOM PATROL run is not in poor form Recently got back the MGA 80 from grading. got a 9.0 highest grade of the books I have submitted
  15. I am continuing rescuing my images of books from the clutches of Photobucket. At least I can download large bunches in zipped archives and then after expanding and saving them I can safely delete them. I have downloaded over 1500 images so far. Could not find a thread devoted to the brief 80 Page Giant run. These were prior to the 80 page annuals that had the numbering in sequence with the regular title. Never been a fan of War or war books so I never got the #7
  16. Did not realize that this was such a hard issue to get, but then again I still did not have one after maybe 15 years of pursuing these Here is another of the upgrades I got in from BLISSARD. I enjoy the Photo covers especially with the big stars of the past
  17. I am so close to my first first hundred group completed. I have 99 in three of them and at least 90% in all of them Great group of books 4GEM has up this week. I have bid early and bid often o many of them. Of course all of them would be amazing upgrades, but there are actually 5 that I do not yet have. Wonder for how many multiples of guide they will go for? Here is a book that would NEVER be confused as part of the 4GEMWORKS collection. Even though it plugs a nice hole in the MISSING it opens up one in the Could be Upgraded portion. In fact it was a free gift from fellow boardie Damonwad, so it will likely not actually be replaced anytime soon. Thanks again
  18. I watched the first 2 episo s es last night. I enjoyed it more than I expected. Who was the actress in the fight scene near the end of episode 1? I know I have most if the Charleston peacemaker and judomaster. Did not know he started in fightin five. Will have to look f I r my Charleston box
  19. Nobody should 1099 you for SELLING your own items. How the heck would anybody have any idea what your basis in the item is? On the other hand it is your responsibility to properly report your income/gain on the item. The income and reporting would be significantly different if you were an individual selling there personal collection vs a business I have only sold items through MCS and Heritage. For Heritage I was able to negotiate down to 0% SP on books that were graded. The high minimum $30 BP really impacts any lot worth less than say 200. I did not feel that I got any value from there exposure on any of the lots I sold through them including my hulk 181. On one of my bigger GA books I got less than 50% of GPA. I would be hard pressed to use them again unless I had items that were truly unique. OTOH they were easy to deal with and gave me a nice check on the spot when I dropped of books in person to their Beverly Hills site. I have sold to, and sold through MCS. I like their setup and their commission seems reasonable. OTOH their grading is VERY HARSH and I am not sure that an auction through them would receive enough exposure for big ticket items. I am thinking of consigning 1 dozen or so slabs that are worth between 50 and $500 each to see if I can get offers. I have been thinking of trying CL for several nice books I recently got back from Voldemort that are perhaps in the 1k-3k range. Of course I cannot mention them here
  20. I closed out 2021 pretty well. completed 5 more transactions bringing in 13 of my missing issues as well as 4 more upgrades and a couple of the actual "missing Four Colors" this one was part of the last group from BLISSARD, and I saw it posted on OGWLOC facebook group today
  21. Well those will be fun to watch/bid on. Hopefully the overtraded Promise books will be out of the way soon
  22. I just recovered my scans from Photobucket The free version became impossible to work with many years ago, A few months ago they forced me into paying $5 a month if I even wanted access. It was relatively painless to download and delete batches and have pulled about 1000 images off already Downloaded all of my classics and related issues. Here are all of my Classic Comics
  23. Good luck on the sale(s) I was estimating what this massive endeavor might yield. I think the 500K in the article is actually a bit low. Trying to rescue my thousands of images from the clutches of Photobucket. I broke down and began paying the minimum of 4.99 per month. not even sure what I get for that Well it was not terribly painful to download a couple of batches This is part of my undercopies which I traded off to MYCOMICSHOP a while back. Plan on sending in another 50 or so soon
