  1. I submitted an Action Comics issue that has two covers. In other words, two front and back covers were wrapped around the same comic. However, the fact of the double cover does not appear anywhere on the label. Does CGC not make that sort of notation on the label?
  2. I assume entry is closed. It looks like more than 350 people have already jumped in. If not, however, I'm in.
  3. I've ordered from Midtown and from Lone Star (mycomicshop.com). In my opinion, Lone Star's quality is consistently better than Midtown's. I also think Lone Star does a better job of packing to keep the comics protected from the post office.
  4. I need a facilitator in Concord, NH to pick up a commission and send it to CGC for Signature Series grading. Thank you for any recommendations. James
  5. Apologies if I violate any posting rules. This is my first time posting here. I have 12 CGC branded graded comic storage boxes from E Gerber to sell or trade. I don't think it is worth shipping them, so if anyone lives in the Atlanta, Ga. area, I'm happy to meet and trade/exchange. Buying through E Gerber would cost $84.00. I'm happy to sell them for $4.00 each, a 57% discount. Take all 12 at once for $45. Trades of raw or graded books totaling $45 value for all 12 at once.
  6. Does anyone know if there is a story behind Gil Kane's birds (Seagulls?) that started showing up on page six of issue 89? Does anyone know if Frenz was paying homage to him in the 1998 Spider-Girl series? I also noticed that Kane drew most every street in New York with a “No Parking” sign. Is there a story behind that?
  7. ivdyer: Thank you for the information. I had much the same questions. How would one go about finding a facilitator? Would you be so kind as to point me toward a thread that might explain the process for getting a yellow label if the artist isn't at a comic con? For example, I'd like to contact Stanley Lau and see if he could do a cover for me, but I don't have a clue how to get started on that process. I did a search of the boards, but I couldn't find an answer. Thank you for any advice you can give.
  8. Could you please add X-Men: Red to the list? Thank you.
  9. Could you lease add X-Men: Red to the competitive list? Thank you.
  10. I was looking at a comic on-line that was described as having "some" rust on the staples. That got me thinking: rust seems to always progress (just look at my 1972 Datsun 240Z for proof), never get better. Would a book with rust on the staples just continue to deteriorate? Should rust on the staples be a deal-breaker when considering a purchase?
  11. All, Can one comic book with fungus spread the fungus to other books? If so, what is the best way to prevent it? Do bags help? Are mylar bags better for preventing the spread of fungus between books than the poly bags?
  12. I'm a newbie, so please forgive me if this has been discussed before. I recently got back into the collecting game and got some good ideas on learning how to assess the quality of comics from another post. One suggestion I received was to review graded comics listed at Heritage Comics. I'm not comfortable yet with assessing quality based on a picture. However, I've been buying comics from MyComicShop and Midtown Comics and trying to guess at the grade before I look at the label attached to the bag. Admittedly, this is going to give me exposure primarily to FN to NM comics since I'm not really buying lower quality. My question is: what is the community's experience with either or both seller's grading? Are they both pretty accurate? Is one better than the other? Thanks for the help.
  13. I apologize if this question has been asked and answered before. I did a search of the boards, but couldn't find anything. After years of ignoring my comic books, my son recently got me interested in collecting again. I'm now trying to fill in the gaps in my collection, but I don't have the hang of judging the quality of what I'm looking at. I don't want to over pay for a book because I can't tell that it is in Good condition, rather than Fine. I've found some general descriptions of the defects that might affect the quality of a book, and I get the obvious ones. For example, I can tell when there is a tear in the cover. What I'm lost on is more subjective things like how sharp corners must be to get an 8.0 versus a 7.5, or how does the position of the staple in the spine affect the grade/quality, or, hypothetically, how long a tear can be before it moves a book from a 4.0 to a 2.0. Is there a book or web site out there that explains grading and quality in simple terms for an inexperienced collector and has pictures of defects that help understand what affects quality? Thanks for your help.
