There's a copy of Something is Killing the Children #1 (the A cover) for sale at my local HPB. They're asking $500 for it, but there's currently a 20% off sale going on. It's in a top-loader and it has nice, sharp corners, no color breaks, no spine wear, no folds...looks nice on the outside. Is this a good price? I see it for sale in 9.8 on mycomicshop for over $1k. Do I demand to see the inside of the book before I purchase it?

Just FYI (but especially to the younger boardies out there) - Giffen did the artwork & helped with the plotting on a short-lived series called "The Heckler" from DC Comics back in the early '90s. It's such a great, hilarious and loving parody of superhero comics. Highly recommended. Much more light-hearted than his equally excellent Lobo miniseries (both of them), and super cheap in any back-issue bin. RIP

I just had this happen to me; the artist's name rhymes with "Mrank Filler", and I paid a VERY high-dollar price for a pencil-and-ink full body sketch of a well-known rodent-based revenge character. My written request was for that character as featured in a certain 4-issue miniseries that we all know and love. The piece I got back....well...let's just say it's a bit of a letdown. The detail on the face is just about zero and he looks a little more like a Transformer than the rodent-based revenge character I asked for. It put me off any further commissions (not that I had that many to begin with) and I try not to let it affect my enjoyment of said artist/writer's DD and rodent-based revenge character work. We live and we learn, Doctor Testicles. Que sera, sera.

Excellent experience dealing with Roy! He let me use a six month installment plan to pay for an excellent copy of ASM 13. Used snail mail and he was very patient when envelopes didn't arrive in the fastest time. Packaging was perfect - total A+++ perfection. Would deal with Roy again anytime. He's one of the great ones!!

What a great 42 year old book. Art by Marshall Rodgers and Brian Bolland with a sweet cover by Michael Kaluta and also an interior poster by Kaluta as well. This book is awesome. Also note that the back cover predated the "virgin cover" thing by four decades.
I have THREE COPIES of this book for $10 each.

I do live in the Chicagoland area. I'm going to call him one last time this week and ask for my books to be returned to me immediately. I'll let you know what happens. I appreciate the offer.
Also, to @joeypost and @mattn792 - thank you both for confirming my reluctance to post anything at all on this forum; I love how anyone who just simply asks a question immediately gets attacked for being so naive, so dumb and so incompetent. I'm so sorry I'm not as intelligent and perfect as you both. I hope you both accept my most sincere apologies for breathing the same air as you both.

Yes...very primitive operation, it seems. I am deeply regretting this already. The first time I talked to him, he claimed that "all the books from that con have already been completed"...well, then why am I getting no invoice or any notification at all about my order? I'll certainly never use this service again.
-
I dropped off a half dozen valuable key issues at their table at a local con early last month, and in the past three weeks I've been trying to get the status of my order. I've talked to an actual human being twice, and both times he responded the same: "...your order should be ready by the end of this week...I'll send you an invoice once it's ready to be shipped out to CGC". You guessed it...never heard from him. Nothing: no invoice, no text, no phone call, no email....nothing. Has anyone else had a similar experience? It's First Impressions Comic Pressing out of Tinley Park, IL.

Amazing Heroes Swimsuit Issue '92 - again, an amazing roster of artists including Adam Hughes, Steve Rude and Mike Allred. Also included a photo of the spine here to show little/no wear and staples firmly attached. VF+ because of a weird, unexplainable crescent-shaped ridge just to the left of the bottom edge of the redhead's hair (also pictured). $15

Now we move on to our final slices of cheesecake: Amazing Heroes and Elementals Swimsuit Issues!
Here is the very first Amazing Heroes Swimsuit Issue from 1990 - the list of contributing artists on this is very impressive. I took a photo of the spine to show that there's virtually no wear and staples are firmly attached. VF/NM $20
