Ok so I was at another LCS over the weekend and came across this issue in a dollar bin. I literally had to do a double take because I noticed where the cracks start on the hologram practically match up with the cracks drawn on the cover!
I just laughed and of course I had to buy it. I do enjoy finding freakish/oddball stuff like this!

Back in the mid 90s Marvel had a line of 99cent comics in the direct market. I assume there was a minimum price that they had to sell newsstand comics for so they would combine two of these issues and sell them for $1.95 on the newsstand. Two pages back in this thread I posted a couple examples of Untold Tales of Spider-Man/ Fantastic Four Unplugged which are another example of when they did this. The first issues of these flipbooks actually had barcodes on both sides but later they started only putting them on one side and leaving the other blank. Hope that helps!
Yes, this helps immensely! Thanks so much!!

Ok, here's another one I picked up which has thrown me off. While digging in the clearance bin I saw this Over The Edge issue with the blank UPC box. I love finding oddities and what not so needless to say I bought it. (Hey it was only 50 cents...so why not)
Well when I got home I took it out of the yucky bag and board it'd been kept in and saw that Professor Xavier and the X-Men was on the flip side of the issue. Huh? Now it's a Newsstand copy but why does one side have a barcode and the other doesn't? Did they seriously sell these outside the comic shops! The indicia says Professor Xavier and the X-Men/Over The Edge vol 1. No. 3, January 1995.
Anyone have any info on this issue or this run? (And BTW - what's with that depressing Prof. X & the X-Men cover!)
Cheers!

You’d be wrong. Look at the second part of the barcode. If it has 5 numbers it’s a Direct Edition. If it has 2 numbers it’s a newsstand. Marvel also stopped newsstand distribution after 2013. I believe DC was 2017.
Thanks for this info! Now I know...and knowing is half the battle!

I use those Command velcro strips. Two strips per comic seems to do the trick and since it's velcro it's super easy to switch them around when I get new comics.
Wow! That's incredible and so simple! Thanks so much for sharing this tip!

I know I showed a few of these recently but my wife got a new job so we have to move which means my newsstand wall display has to come down. I thought I'd take a pic and share it before it gets boxed up and put into storage until we find a new place to live😉. Sorry the glare makes it a little hard to see.
OMG This must be what heaven looks like....
BTW could PLEASE tell me how you got these to stay on your wall...and don't tell me it's an ancient "Chinese Secret".

Well, looks like WalMart has gotten another new batch of Marvel 3 packs in. Here are the ones I picked up. Funny how it seems like the lenticular issues are starting to become the norm in these 3 packs.
There were a few more (i.e. Thor, Eternals, & King in Black: Return of the Valkyries ) which I'll try to pick up before they're gone.

MCS doesn't generally separate Newsstands. Most of the ones I've seen that they do are mistakes, referring to standard (Direct) editions of issues that have enhanced versions.
I agree they do make mistakes...heck we're all humans and not perfect. Anyhoo, it was a silly side thought after seeing that FF issue and knowing it was Newsstand.

Not every comic which has a newsstand version is explicitly called out on MCS.
I have a newsstand version of #2 of this series; no mention of it. Not a conspiracy.
Oh I wasn't thinking about conspiracy or anything. It just so happens to be the site I have saved on my phone and when I'm out and about I'll go to the site out of convenience.

I also can't see any pictures from any one else...I can see yours though.
Funny, I was just about to post a few of the Walmart packs that I picked up yesterday. Looks like you and I got the same comics in our Strange Academy pack.

Good morning,
Unfortunately, it looks like imaging was not requested on your invoice 2579283. You might want to check with the facilitator on that if you had advised them you wanted that service and it wasn't selected.
Thank you!
No problem. I didn't remember requesting Imaging but when I saw it listed there I thought, well maybe they added it. I'll check with them. I really appreciate your help!

Hello, if you can provide the invoice number, I can check that for you. Thanks!
Hi Jennifer!
Sure here is the info
Submission #2579283
I don't have an order number because this was submitted through One-Stop Comics while I was at a convention in September. Here's a screen shot of the info when I click the Submission #
Thank you so much for your help.

It just occurred to me that I never received the scanned image of a comic I had graded back in September. It was shipped back to me 9/28/2020 and of course I received.
My Submission history shows the comic as having been "Finalized / Imaged / Shipped" and clicking on that link takes me to the Fed-Ex website. I never got the image sent in a separate email and I've checked my Spam/Junk folder to make sure.
Who can I contact about getting the scan of this comic book?
Cheers!

Hi everyone!
So I recently bought this X-Men #25 out of a $1 bin because of the blue hologram oddity. My first thought was maybe it was moisture that got into the hologram. But the rest of the comic book is absolutely clean and the pages are white and show no signs of moisture or water damage. I've looked at this hologram from various angles and cannot figure it out. My sister said it looked like blue ink spilled in there.
I've been reading this thread and have seen some really bizarre (yet very interesting) examples of these holograms having different oddities. So I was wondering what you all thought of this one.
Oh and funny enough, when I bought it I didn't realize it was a Newsstand issue until I got home.

Seriously, I too am wondering if there's any logical reasoning behind the different names placed near the UPC barcode on modern Marvel Newsstand editions. I mean why put "Marvel Classics" near the barcode for this "The Invincible Iron Man" issue 17? Ummm....is it supposed to be a classic?

Dang I just noticed this is mislabeled
It's not supposed to be thunder(s) plural....
It's now set apart in the registry as its own.... category....
There are headed copies of thor: ages of thunder but no $4.99 Newsstand
And now there is this thor: ages of thunders and it's the $4.99 Newsstand
Ah man....
Wow thats crazy! Someone at CGC was asleep at the wheel when they labeled it. You can re-send it and have the label corrected, right?

I'm still a huge collector of the 90's Marvel trading cards...everything from the Marvel Universe to the X-Men Fleer and so on. I'd love to see CGC begin grading Marvel cards from the 90's and would totally send some of mine in.
