  1. It is all by preference..really! To make a long story short...pedigree is nothing more than having a history behind your comic book. You know who had it before you. Otherwise the book goes from manufacturer to book stand to who knows who until it winds up being sold at auction, yard sale or anywhere else. We personally like pedigrees due to the fact not many have owned them before us and we know where they come from. We like file copies most of all because they have never left the publisher. Currently we have many slabbed file copies and a few unslabbed file copies. Also have some slabbed and unslabbed pedigrees. The Col. became extremely excited last year on Superbowl Sunday when we got our first two pedigrees slabbed and our first two file copies slabbed....you would have thought he won a really big lottery purse!! So of course he will be watching for deals tomorrow night. So to all you die hard football fans keep your eye on the game tomorrow and don't worry about buying comic books...we are ready for some really good deals again Thanks for reading and happy hunting!
  2. When we started in 2008, we were just going to collect for 10 years. But we have gotten so involved with comics I doubt we will ever quit. The boys said that will keep collecting long after we are gone. At first it was more for an investment, but now...they have grown on us and the comics have become part of the family. Though they take up space...they don't eat or use up utilities...but they are a part of each one of us. We all have our favorites but each of us gets a thrill when one of us gets a new comic for our own individual sets and tastes. And just like human beings the comics have their own personalities which seem to reflect on each of us. The Col. favors XMen and old Westerns. He always has been a cowboy at heart and the old westerns bring out that aspect of him. The XMen attributes to his mysterious and adventurous side. Robert favors Batman with his quirky fantasies and slight nutty dark side always trying to help others. Jeremy favors Spiderman with his quiet, laid back attitude always concerned with taking care of family. And as for me,I favor the humor comics. I have always pulled pranks, making jokes, and making everyone laugh. So what had started as an investment has now become a way of life for us. How about you?
  3. He always buys 9.6 or better, but if he gets a 9.2 or 9.4 he grits his teeth and shudders with fright. But lately the Col. has been looking at 7.0's and 8.0's without even wincing. Lately Jeremy has gotten hooked on Ultimate Spiderman...that is all he wants to buy. Robert has been stuck in a rut...only buying raw Batmans. As for me I have just been sitting back and watching my nutty family enjoy their separate parts of our family collecting. Since I am a mature woman, I enjoy the golden age with being able to accept the fact that I know that I may not find high grades all the time..but I do like them slabbed. And as for Robert and Jeremy's wives they are supportive on the collecting, they just think we are cuckoo! Anyway...whats a little craziness between family members. At least its constructive AND DOESN'T HURT ANYTHING...EXCEPT MAYBE THE WALLET! Guess you figured out this is the Col.'s wife, Judy! Happy hunting aand collcting to all!!
  4. This season we are blessed that our whole family has been together. Not looking forward to 2011 holiday season though! Due to the fact that Robert and Jeremy will be in Afghanistan next year serving their country. Both of our sons will be leaving in February 2011, and both wish and hope that 2011 will be our biggest and best collecting of comics ever (so far!). Between what we get graded and what we collect they are hoping we have over 500 CGC graded by the time they get back in March 2012. Right now we have 179 CGC's and with a little over 200 to get graded. So The COL and I have our work cut out for us to meet their goal they have set. BEST WISHES FOR THE HOLIDAYS AND MAY GOD BLESS!!!
  5. As most of you know, we started collecting CGC's in 2008. Most of those were basically bronze to modern age. In February of 2010 we started buying golden and silver age, mostly file copies. We have continued the year in golden and silver age. We have been buying more raw comics (for slabbing later) than we have in the past. Now guess it is time to getting back to evenly buying bronze, golden. and silver to help finish completing sets. This coming year in 2011, going cut back on our buying and concentrate on getting ones we have graded and slabbed. We got over 5000 raw comics right now (most VF/NM) with a little over 200 we want to get graded. About half the raw comics are golden and silver age in excellent condition. Our goal in to have over a 1000 high grade CGC's within 10 years. More than of the CGC's we bought this year are highest on census, which we feel is a great accomplishment. We have concentrated most of our golden and silver age on humor and western titles. Comments are welcome and appreciated whether good or bad or indifferent. Thank you for reading our journal. THE COL, JUDY, ROBERT, and JEREMY
  6. Its been fun, wish we could spend alot more! As of today we have 170 slabbed comics, most are highest on censes, also have acquired more than 3000 raw comics alot of those being golden & silver age. It is so exciting to buy , even though it may exceed our budget, but it is also exhilarating when that box is up against the door waiting for us to just tear into it and enjoy our new member of our comic family. We did better than we expected this year, we ranked #1 on three different sets. With Popular comics being our most prized out of all our sets at this time, who knows what it will be next year. We don't get rid of any of our slabbed comics, we just keep on adding to this particular part of our comic family. Our favorites change as time marches on, but we love them all.
  7. Roberts first journal. Col. found some pedigrees and now they are my precious. Until mama got and equalizer and took back my precious. For those of you who dont know what an equalizer is its a big stick in the form of a baseball bat. Mom said we maybe bigger than her now but she has equalizers. She had the pedigrees framed and hung on the wall. Now I have to view my precious on her walls. Its a family collection, all except my precious.
  8. This last week we got our first pedigrees off EBAY. 2 File copys, a Crippen & A Crowley. During superbowl sunday I caught a great deal on the pedigrees. When I told the boys they were in awe that I was able to get such a deal on several pedigree comics. Judy calls them her "Precious"; like Spegal from LOTR. It has been an EPIC struggle to determine whos "Precious" they are, since the boys now claim them as thier "Precious". And I have been left out of the "Precious" circle, even though I found them for less than Overstreet says thier worth. Judy carries the biggest stick, so I guess they are her "Precious", for now..... The file copies were Popular Comics #125 9.2 and #129 9.2. The Crowley was Monte Hale Western #76 9.4. The Crippen was Tim Holt #4 7.0. Everyone is alway argueing over whos comics are whos, but the collection belongs to all of us.
  9. We started collecting in June 2008 since then we have got over 2000 raw comics & 143 CGC's My wife teases me a lot that I am addicted to comics now. She says if I miss a day with out buying any I have withdrawal symptoms . She has a lot of room to talk she is just as bad about it as I am. I have a lot of fun collecting with my family. My wife & my two grown sons collect with me. The boys are so busy they dont have a lot of time for the collection most of the time, but my wife & I make up for that. Our goal for 2010 is to have at least 3000 raw & 250 CGC's by the end of the year. Good luck to everyone on your collecting & we hope you have as much fun with it as we do. Col Cauley
  10. Col. has become so addicted to buying comics that if he goes a day without buying one he has major withdrawls. It has been two weeks since his last fix. He bought a CGC XMEN #212 9.6 as his last purchase. The Col. shakes, rattles, and rolls. He is agitated easily and keeps looking for more money to get his fix on. As of recently money has been tight so he hasn't been able to buy like he NEEDS to keep him sane and put together. So if anyone out there knows of a good CGC or Comics Anonymous please let me know as soon as possible. LMAO Sincerely, Mrs. Cauley
  11. We are selleing a lot of our duplicates on ebay this month some CGC's & a lot of raw comics. As we said we are sellind a lot of our duplicates on ebay. If anyone is interested our ebay is boblcauley. Good luck to everyone & Happy Holidays From the Cauley Family..
  12. We had our family dinner and family time together... and topped it off by buying CGC's on Ebay. I made everyone here fat and happy. Then we got two really good deals on Ebay for CGC's to add to the family collection. We hope that everyone had a fulfilling and happy Thanksgiving. May God Bless. Mrs. Cauley and Family
  13. As most of you know we started collecting CGC's last year, up till now we have not had any graded. We always bought them already graded. We sent 15 raw comics in for grading, most came out as we expected, some a grade lower. So I guess for not being pro graders we did not do so badly. After the New year we will be sending in a lot more to be graded so wish us luck! Col Cauley
  14. It was the best we have ever done on Ebay. Most everything we got was for less than 9.2 Overstreet guide prices. In X-Men vol 1 we ended up with 122, 123, 127, 137, 139, 211, all 9.6 CGC graded we also got 266 9.8. Civil War we got a no 1 sketch cover & a no 1 Var. cover no 3 var. cover all 9.8. Astonishing X-Men we got Giant size no 1 sketch cover & a no 1 Directors cut Edition 9.8 A lot of great add ons for our collection. I hope eveyone here has such luck soon too. Col. Cauley
  15. I have read bought sold & traded comics since 1968. I never thought about collecting till 2008 when my boys wanted to start. We started to collect comics early in 2008, by mid 2008 we started with CGC's now thats all we collect. Over the years I have bought entire collections to resale but never thought of collecting myself, wish I had. We would have a great collection by now if I had. I am retired now & spend most of my time looking for new CGC's or sorting comics. I still buy complete collections to resale of non graded comics. We have found a lot to get graded out of these. But decided to only get them graded once a year in March. March 2010 will be our first batch to get graded wish us luck with them. Will update more later Col. Cauley
