  1. ah... I guess I'm reading it weird... I think the non-verbatim quote was something like, "she was dead before she hit the ground." She wasn't *literally* dead... She was just inevitably dead in a second or two. *thumbs up*
  2. yessss... I could not find the receipt for those DD's I was talking about! Mine was from IGC as well
  3. Yes, thank you! That's part of what I was trying to remember... But the 2nd part... if this is what happened, (and was intended) why the convoluted monologue about how she was already dead?
  4. Really does seem like a crazy high market at the moment... still speculation driving it? I bought mine raw around 2008 at a local Con for like $150... submitted it to CGC last year... light water stains on the front and a rusted staple on the bottom hurt, but I still did ok
  5. Thanks for the thoughts! The lack of data is definitely frustrating, but yeah... it does look like a 50% discount is approximately what to expect... Guess I'll see what the tax fairy brings and go from there with the assumption I may be able to get 3-4 out of this one. The sales I was looking at (am I reading GPA wrong?) were, in reverse chronological order: 9.0 (SP) February 26, 2012: $1,300 (same book as the previous sale) 9.0 (SP) December 16, 2011: $800 9.4 (SP) June 12, 2011: $1,623 (CGC Verification doesn't have a match for this number...??) 9.4 (SP) April 04, 2011: $1,700 (wondering if this is the same book as above...) 9.0 (SA) July 28, 2007: $760 (this is my purchase of the book above.. the most I'd ever spent on a comic at the time! The resub last year turned it in to 9.2 (C-1)) There's this kind of crazy flip of an 8.5 with much more restoration back in 2014... not bad for a week's worth of work!
  6. I finally got copies if 121 and 122 recently and thought, despite knowing the basic story thanks to ad nauseam recaps, that it was handled really wonderfully just the way it was... I did mean to ask... was there something about having to massage the dialog on the last couple of pages to make it clear that Spidey didn't actually kill her with the *snap*? GG's explanation that she was already dead seems pretty weak.
  7. Nice, thanks that one doesn't pop like sonne of those other white covers, does it? Still pretty awesome!
  8. Beautiful! Any idea where the #1 is squirreled away?
  9. Yah, I'm just trying to get a ballpark to see if it's worth the auction risk and/or what a fair reserve might be. Not looking to lose it for just $1k, you know?
  10. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what I might be able to expect to get for my 9.2 Apparent (slight color touch on cover)? I'm thinking about trying to sell this and upgrade to a Universal as tax season comes around... Very few Apparent sales figures on GPA though... The 2 9.0 Apparents (2007 and 2012) have no other sales during those years but appear to be about half (or a little less) of the Universal for the years on either side. The 9.4 Apparent (2012) also went for a little less than half of the Universal value that year. With 9.2's going b/t about $8k and $11k over the last year, does $4k sound like a reasonable assumption? Pretty sure I've posted these scans before, but here's a looksee:
  11. Got my books faster than expected, and despite the USPS's best attempts to break the shiny new CGC cases, a fantastic packing job got everything to me in pristine condition. Thank you! -jim
  12. yeah, sorry... I must have tossed it out... The cover was the exact same as the plain gray back cover though and just a little bit smaller. Interior was still in color though... pretty sure it's the same idea as what the OP was asking about. I'd never seen one before I got that DD thing a few months ago either... Guess I should always check ebay first!
  13. Pretty sure I threw it in the recycling bin, but I'll see if I can find it this evening...
  14. I pre-ordered the most recent DD annual 9.8 Del Otto covers and got a similar thing for that issue... it was an inch or two smaller as well...
  15. Have been working on my FF silver age issues and keep looking at this horrible thing...
  16. Good business move! I'm very tempted to buy one and pay for that just to see what happens! It's gonna be, like, Neil Gaiman or something comes to put a couple of screws in my wall and then just bounce.
  17. +1 I had no idea a 9.9 existed for anything that old...
  18. yesss... it came today... (from Bob at HGC) Set complete!
  19. More DD crossover fun! Still looking for a decent #40 though...!
  20. One more down, and 1 to go... 49 is on its way right now!
  21. Was finishing up the Spidey PS4 game and got the psyborg suit... remembered I had this drawing that I'd done years ago... I *think* that date in the corner says 1992, so I guess I did it right after I read issue 21 when I was 14 years old. I didn't think anyone could follow Todd on that Spider-Man title, but I really liked what Erik did... Enough to make a terrible copy of it!
  22. So, I saw this... Was there a pre-CGC time where signatures (with or without a CoA) really did add value to a book? I remember buying some TM signed Spider-Man issues back in the day (I think from The Spider's Web (Todd's store?) via American Entertainment)... at the time I thought that would surely make those worth more! But it seems like the only time they were worth more was when I bought them... Did CGC and the GLOD destroy the majority of the unverified signature market, or was there ever really one in the first place? Most of the books I've gotten signed are unverified, and I just was happy to know that I met the creator and got the sig... if I ever sold them the buyer wouldn't have that at all... I was going through my DD books the other day and noticed a copy of #248 that had a notecard inside... whoever previously owned the book had written down all the creators and it appears was attempting to have everyone sign the book. He got three of them (complete with time/date/place on the notecard), but I'm pretty certain that doesn't help the value at all. I do kind of want to try to finish this project now though... Of course there's something to be said for creators who passed prior to CGC... Anyway, I'm rambling... or drinking... or both...
