1. Yes! Another of my favorites and first I bought off the stands... along with this one, which I'm sure has already been posted...
2. I bought this off the stands just for the sweet cover.
3. Looks like I never updated after I got my #5 back... very pleasantly surprised!
4. If you have visible spine tics, 9.8 is pretty unlikely... The signature is all up to you though! Will it be more valuable? Maybe a little. I got mine signed "to jim" though, which definitely hurts the value, but I didn't care... that's what I wanted! I never bothered insuring shipments to CGC, and I've never had an issue. (Always sent via USPS Priority) That, of course, is a risk, and I'm not sure I'd send anything valuable right now without insurance just based on what I've been hearing about delays and such with USPS. Don't sweat the value too much... keep it at a lower tier for the initial submission. If you make some kind of major error CGC will change the tier once they have the book. Hope that helps a bit... welcome back to collecting!
5. Came here looking for this thread to see what you guys were saying about this one. Absolute beauty! I could maybe afford that if I sold the entire rest of my collection! :-p
6. You beat me to it! And here I thought I was *finally* going to have a real-world use for all these stupid training classes they make me take at work every year!
7. They need to be separated into groups of at least 25, I believe.
8. AFAIK CGC will get rid of anything in the bag... if you want to grade them, open them first and hang onto the cards. There's no way to know, once opened, which copies go with which cards. If you're sitting on <9.8 (and certainly <9.6) leave them bagged... if you think you've got some high grades send them in, hopefully with a member discount on grading! (But keep the cards)
9. That stupid ComicLink sticker on the back knocks at least $5K off the price! Any guesses as to where this ends up? Seems like demand has gone up over the last year... $20k?
10. Bob's got a 9.4 Albedo up if anyone wants to add to their club for only $12k... https://www.highgradecomics.com/book-details/?id=158726
11. I wasn't allowed to read comics, but I got this costume for some reason. I was born in '78, and I think we moved out of this house in '85, so... I guess prolly '84/'85? I have no idea what children look like at certain ages. Even if that child is me.
12. The silver one was, by far, my favorite when it came out... it was also the only one I owned! These days I like the regular cover though, and this is the only copy I have...
13. Nice. I always liked Chance too for some reason... and Solo... but maybe I just liked the way Todd drew them!
14. Yeeeessss! SD has gone all over the place sometimes, but I still love it... largely because Erik also seems to still be creating it with love.
15. I'm pretty sure this was one of those last-minute-walking-out-the-door purchases from the last time Gene Colan was at HeroesCon (2006-ish) and got me all excited about Marvel Bronze horror again. I *kind of* think it came from Crazy Ed as I definitely remember talking to him about a #1 that I didn't end up buying. I wasn't keeping as close track of what I paid for specific books back then as I am now, but it would have been really rare for me to pay much more than $100 for anything back then, so that's what I've got in my database now. It could have been a bit more, but definitely not >$200, and I think 100-ish makes sense for the time period and that I had it as NM/NM-... I agree with you though... I think it's probably smart to still sit on it and just hope the census doesn't get too diluted. Probably wouldn't do me any good, but I sure would love to see what a 9.8 would pull at auction - especially if the MCU thing happens and they got the timing right...
16. I bought a raw copy of MS2 at HeroesCon a number of years ago... got it graded in 2018, and it came back a 9.6 - none higher. (currently 24 in the census) Been watching this for a few years, and it certainly looks like the number of 9.6's has increased while there still isn't a single 9.8, and only 4 sales over the last 3 years hovering around $4k (Sales in 2017 were around $1400.) With Moon Knight coming to Disney+ and Jack slated to appear in the MCU is this book poised for an even greater increase? Or just a glut of submissions? There are roughly 35% fewer graded copies of #2 than of #5, and #5 has 3 x 9.8's and 34 x 9.6's. Statistically, I'd think we're due for a 9.8 to show up, yeah? I don't expect WWBN to ever be GR, but MS5 9.6's are going $15k+ with a 4 year old 9.8 sale at $50k. Time to Buy/Sell/Hold on the 9.6's that are out there? If a 9.8 shows up, is that at least a $10k book?
17. No matter what it'll be the highest and only graded SS copy by me. When I die it'll be worth a fortune!
18. That's cool. Now I definitely want to draw something on sind random book and get it slabbed with my name on it! I can't draw anything outside of a circle. Maybe I'll do a Spidey book and draw Spot on the cover after he's already disappeared...
19. I love this idea in theory... It would make me sad not to have something to see or hold, but it would also be nice not to have to worry about protecting it!
20. Only reason I went to Heroes in '19 was to see Stan. There was just one other guy in front of me, so I basically just walked right up. He was so nice and happy to take some time to give me a pair of sketches on the inside of those hardcovers that came out, what, 10 years ago? I really hated to hear that UY was moving to IDW... I *hate* all their zillions of covers, and I wasn't stoked to have it published in glossy color either. Seems like it was probably a good move financially for Stan though, so I'm happy as long as he's still doing the book! Someone earlier in the thread said something about collecting UY being a solitary pursuit. I totally agree. I was trying to get the Fantagraphics run in 9.8 and rarely saw issues popup... the ones I picked up were in the $30-$40 range, and I refused to pay $200+ for a number 2. Now there are tons of Usage 9.8 results out there! Although still not so many from that series... Anyway! Love the character, love the creator, and here are the sketches he did for me.
21. Ugh. Really kicking myself... #2 1st was the last issue I really needed back when it was constantly $500-$600... I just kept thinking I'd pick it up whenever since it was so readily available. Oops.
22. Did you get this restored yourself or buy it as-is? Definitely looks pretty!
