Inside Signatures
comicginger1789 replied to Love4Comics's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Ooooo CGC might have another money making opportunity for themselves. Charge an extra $7 for a nice colour printed image of the signature, that way people get the book encased in the lovely new JSA label PLUS a high quality image of the interior signature they can no longer look at that. This can just be slipped into the bag that CGC sends the graded comic back in. -

To clarify what this person means, sometimes the book inside that inner well is sandwiched tight but the whole inner well as whole still moves (does the contents shift at all when you tip the book upside down?). SCS or shaken case syndrome as people have come to call it, can happen and means the books could have shifting, thus causing the pages to appear that way and perhaps larger tears at the staples. Are those staple tears common for 9.8? They do seem a bit much but I have still seen other 9.8 books with similar. If you are really concerned, return it and look for a better copy.

Trimmed edge or a slice?
comicginger1789 replied to Koopakidd11's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I think we assume all trimming was done to improve the book for other collectors...what if this was just some kid who didnt like the edge wrinkling or wear or whatever so they took an exacto-knife and removed the edge? Definitely was cut by someone at some point so the book has been altered. Maybe to us it doesn't enhance the look but to the kid at the time it does. When I was a kid I uses to cut the corners off my hockey cards because the edges were always getting dinged and bent so I rounded them off (I was a dumbo kid like the above kid was and before you get concerned that I ruined good cards, 99% were the 90's pro set stuff so no worries). -

Selling a modern CGC 10
comicginger1789 replied to Jollyroger65's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Agree with the above...a CGC 10 of a book less that 10 years old is not the same as one older. If we knew the book, I could assist in past sales data info as well as suggesting a possible starting value. When in doubt, price high. If you are actively advertising to sell and get nothing, your price is not right and that tells you dropping it is needed in order to sell. -
When to slab, when to sell raw?
comicginger1789 replied to kcm54's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I know that CGC grading can take some getting used to. What I would do is pick a couple of these books you speak of (the ones that command good value in 9.8 but case cost or less if they fall to a 9.2). See how it goes. Either your eye will hold up and you will be happy or you will learn your grading is perhaps too lenient and you know that selling these books raw is the way to go. As for selling the "utter junk", sell off in lots but sprinkle in some books that don't sell from "the rest". So a collector sees some decent bronze age stuff they might want, mixed with the junk and if priced appropriately, you can move those books. For example I sold a lot of 10 Spider-Man books for $50 the other day. 90s spideys but I tossed in a mid grade issue #103 and the lot sold quick. Way I figure it, selling 103 by itself might have yielded $30-40 and I would have never gotten $20 for the rest (or it would have taken a while).. -

Hi all, I am wanting to know about the Rocketeer graphic novel from 1985...does it just contain reprints/collect all of the stories from the Pacific Comics Presents issues? Is there any new content in this graphic novel (ie some reprinted stories plus new). Thanks!
