  1. I don't know if the post on the first page could be updated whenever a lot is picked, that could help.
  2. I don't think their market share would ever take a big hit, the competition just isn't there and does not adress the main issue arising from this which is that slabs become a catch 22 for inserts. If it's all about buying the book and not the slab, then the main alternative is not a rival slabbing company but getting rid of the slab all together.
  3. In terms of guarantee, it feels more like a warranty. Like bad stuff happened on my orders but I was made whole monetarily. Never at a loss of money (but definitely at a loss of books or whatnot). So I get their guaranty in that sense. And we are seeing it play out with this current scandal too. People will be monetarily compensated. What I find completely asinine about the guarantee is that it's wrapped around a catch 22 they created. Only the book within their slab has the guarantee, it represents their service. So their guarantee that the book you purchased isn't missing a page or doesn't have restoration is only good as long as the book remains in the slab. While I get it, it's also the easiest out. The page is missing, but you only knew that because you removed the book from the slab. If it was kept in its holder, it's value as a complete book wouldn't have dropped. That's obviously an issue beyond CGC and more about slabbing books, but it's just to show that some aspects of the guarantee don't mean much. (and yes, with the fact that they take pictures now of the graded books, you can further use that to prove that the book you removed from the slab is the same book and in the case of that Archie, you could check if the removal of the pinup was recent or not, which is why CGC still made the individual whole even though they removed it from the slab).
  4. Yup, I'm in the same Canadian boat. Except replace Tom and Jerry with Fawcett comics.
  5. It's not wrong. Stuff like what I am linking to below is inexcusable for a company claiming to be experts in this field
  6. But then that goes against what CGC states on their website regarding reholders. If what you suggest is true, then CGC is lying to their customers. To be fair, tons of people second guess CGC every day. This just happened to actually be a scam this time. What loophole? All evidence we have shows the scammer went through the proper channels, requesting a reholder like anyone else, putting the comic at risk of a regrade which puts the blame solely on CGC. I can't tell which scam that comment refers to, but if it is regarding this current scandal then no they are not victims. They are at least unknowing accomplices.
  7. That corrects absolutely nothing and only adds to the illusion of an incorrect slab being legitimate. It shows proof to the buyer that what they are purchasing is the same book CGC signed off on.
  8. Doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Dylan was using a loophole for his blue labelled restored comics but this individual is simply asking for a reholder and CGC takes their money and complies without caring that a 9.8 looks like . There is no loophole here unless you consider corporate greed and ineptitude to be a loophole. I think this is why their statement ticks me off, they are saying it's all the fault of a bad actor and yet they are the ones who looked at that ASM 9.8 and went, "that checks out".
  9. They still would have to prove he knew they were swapped books. And yes, if he knew then they do become unwilling accomplices which is why I don't think CGC wants to get the law involved in this. And if they can't prove exactly what the perp did then only they remain a guilty party as they are the ones certifying fraudulent books. The fact that they are the experts in this scenario would make for a real bad look in court. CGC is guilty of letting this happen. And honestly, I personally hold CGC 100% guilty for this since they are the ones that ultimately created the fraudulent slabs which were then sold. None of us can prove for certain exactly what happened before CGC got the submission but it can be proven that they reslabbed a book, certifying its grade, and that same book being sent back on the market where it can ultimately be purchased by an unknowing customer who trusts them. They have guard rails in place (ie regrading if needed, as their site says) and chose not to use them. They havent changed their practices. They have always stated that a reholder request CAN lead to a regrade if they deem it necessary. And they do state that they do a check. It just seems that even though they say that, they simply don't do it. Thank you. I don't know why we started talking about ME all of a sudden. Also there's no dates on ME. If a slab is incorrect, like the one below which states the cover is by Jim Lee when it isn't, CGC has to fix it. A re holder that adds a custom label does not get a new cert number (from any of my experience).
  10. Firstly, turns out that Punisher book was resent to CGC, so I was wrong on that, and it's the same scam at play. As for the part I placed in bold, I would always suggest that regardless and I have always acted on "buy the book, not the slab". That rings more true now than ever of course. It's also why I never really got into the 9.8 game and stuck more with GA issues with CGC at least letting me know if a book is restored or not (or to which extent). As for books missing a MVS or a Pin up, sadly CGC has missed those in the past too regardless of this scam. But inserts go beyond CGC certifications and to the broader idea of slabbing a book since you can never truly know the inside of a slabbed book until you remove it from its slab.
  11. Ah , I'm now wondering how CGC will deal with people claiming issues with their books. I have 2 slabs to send back to them due to their mistakes. One that omits a book of being a Canadian edition (happens to be a 9.8) and the other that has a sticker label across the top claiming its a store exclusive even though it's Detective Comics 400.
  12. Is the scammer reproducing fake labels and altering the cert number? Only way I see this making sense (but I may be missing something)
  13. This is super intriguing. In this particular case, how can you tell its a scam and not someone who bought the 8.0 and cracked the case themselves and had it pressed and regraded? If CGC has "fingerbend" notes for the 8.0 and none for the 9.0 (or simply less issues noted), they could say that the book was pressed and regraded and thus legit. I'm just wondering how anything could be proven in a matter like this.
  14. I expected way less. Though this means that the situation is way more dire than I expected. As people have stated, it basically brings to question any slabbed book you purchased in the past recent years and puts a kibosh on any purchases in the near future.
