Marvel Trading Cards
DanDixon replied to Sketch Card Hive's topic in CGC Trading Cards General Discussion
I stopped dealing with ebay a long time ago. Is there any place else to buy and sell the Marvel cards? -

Should I Be Happy With This Press?
DanDixon replied to DanDixon's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
FYI, this was CCS and this wasn't the worst out of the 6 books I sent them. -

Pressers Claiming Other's Work
DanDixon replied to DanDixon's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Nice work. I missed the note about them closing. Weird that they leave the site up. It looked like Impressive had a few other pictures taken in the same space that Multiverse didn't. -

I was exploring web sites of different pressing services and came across the exact same before and after pictures on two different sites. Here is the page showing Thor Annual 2 and Hulk 181 for Multiverse Corps Comics in Miami: https://www.multiversecorpscomics.com/full-comic-book-cleaning-service. Here are the same pictures on the page for Impressive Comics in New York: https://www.impressivecomicbooks.com/. This would seem to disqualify one of these sites from being trusted to press books.

What is your definition of "bend"? The glossary in Overstreet doesn't have a definition. They do define "crease" as "a fold which causes in removal, usually resulting in a white line". They define "folds" as "linear dents in paper that do not result in the loss of ink; not a crease". I always thought bend was synonymous with fold. Now I have a book come back from CCS and CGC with the notes "light bends to cover, light spine stress lines to cover, moderate creasing to cover". I asked CGC how it was that bends weren't taken out by the pressing process and was told "All of those refer to color breaking defects which pressing can not get out." Does "bend" and "crease" mean the same thing to CGC graders?

Membership credit at checkout?
DanDixon replied to Mr MxyzptIk's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I recently got my first shipment back from getting my first membership. It seems that the credit is only good for the line item of grading. This means they will not apply it towards any work done under the CCS banner. I have been waiting a week to hear back about this next issue, but it appears they will not apply it towards shipping charges either. I don't know how it is that we are in 2020, they are taking orders over the internet, and they can't tell you what your bill is and why before you ship. -

Thank you for the grade! No rust on the staples. Sorry the picture didn't capture it.

Amazing Spider-Man 101 THE GRADE IS IN
DanDixon replied to Atticus123's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I'd go 9.0. If it were just the top left corner I think it could go higher, but it looks like multiple signs of minor wear on the bottom edge, top edge, and right edge of the cover. -
I have gone through Overstreet's guide and I can't find any guidance there as to flakes. The flake on the bottom right cover is a decent size and I've put a dime next to it for size comparison. I know there are other issues like the subscription crease running down the center, but the staples are tight and in good shape, the book lays flat, and I would have it pressed before submitting it for grading. Any thoughts on grade and direction on cover flakes is much appreciated.

I had my first experience with pressing and I was hoping the group could give me an opinion about this pressing. Here's a picture of the Uncanny X-Men 266 I received in my family's small mailbox in 1990. The book had some obvious bends. Here are what those bends look like now after pressing and grading. They are obviously better than before but still noticeably present. I know pressing can't fix color breaks, but I thought they would be able to get rid of the bends on a modern cover. Should I be satisfied with this?

ASM 238 missing tattooz: valuation question
DanDixon replied to Columbia Comics's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
I wanted to find a definitive answer on how this would be graded without the Tattooz so I asked the folks at CGC. They were kind enough to let me know a book without the Tattooz would still receive the Qualified label. From CGC "With the Tatooz missing your book would get a QUALIFIED grade and the label would be notated tatooz missing."
