  1. Its fine. The seller never claimed it was a 9.8 or anything. They were just selling 5 books and I thought they looked like at least some would be 9.8s. It looks like two of them will be, with pressing, so hopefully not a total loss. They are for my personal collection and there aren't a lot of issues in the series that have 9.8s so I am having to look for them in raw form. I expect to end up with a lot of dead ends. Just part of the process. If I end up with some that grade lower I'll just sell them and keep going. I probably wont send this one in though.
  2. I've seen multiple cases of distributor damage to books where it was not counted off. The most obvious and frequently occurring is where the top of the comic will be painted by distributors and comic book dealers. Stamps on books are also ignored and all these things occur after production.
  3. Is this corner wear enough to knock an otherwise 9.8 to a lower grade? Could it possibly still be a 9.8 if I get the right graders or is this never going to be a 9.8? Has anyone seen corners like this in a graded 9.8?
  4. So, I just got a group of 5 raw comics in the mail today that I had high hopes for being 9.8s. Unfortunately two will definitely not be. Two are, I think, borderline and one, to me, is a 9.8. I am not too disappointed since the seller never claimed a grade for them. He sent me pictures when I asked and I feel like it was worth it even if one issue comes back a 9.8. If three do it will be more than worth it. Of the two that are borderline one has what looks like damage from distribution strapping. I have heard that at 9.8 CGC still allows this kind of defect. Here is a picture. What do you guys think? Is this something that CGC will let go as production related flaws? Everything else about the comic is mint.
  5. That's wonderful to hear. I am glad to hear it was a collection of passion. I hope to one day have something like it at least in number and grade of issue if not in signatures. I just bought some raw books and it looks like at least one will be a 9.8 and possibly two more on top of that.
  6. Unfortunately its not too easy to find raw. This is the only ungraded copy I have seen so far. But it is a bit expensive so I don't know if I want it if it is less than a 9.0. If it was a 9.0+ it would be a good deal. If it turns out to be an 8.5 or less it isn't.
  7. I saw it. He currently has the best set of sandman in the world. I don't know much about his details beyond what he says in his bio, but he must have some kind of connections to have the amount of signatures he does. Most of the time if there is only one of a sandman issue he has it. After seeing his collection on line I realized I would never be able to achieve what he has. But its wonderful to see someone has done it. I'll never have the income that he has to be able to afford some of the books he bought. I will inevitably have to submit some books myself since there are some that just don't exist outside of his set, such as #18 in a 9.8, but I am going to try to buy as many as I can already graded. I am looking forward to the hunt though. I am hoping Dragoncon wont be canceled this year, though it is very ify. Only one store near me has any sandman and they only have like 5 issues and they aren't 9.8s.
  8. Yeah. I thought it might be. I am hoping if I submit some books they will note it if I ask, but I wont get my hopes up.
  9. Back in March I bought my first slab. It was the first in a run I want to collect in all 9.8+ It is Neil Gaiman's Sandman. It has always been my favorite comic series and I finished a whole raw run, except variants, back in the early 2000s, including getting several autographed by Neil Gaiman and some of the artists. That collection, and all my other comics and collectables, were destroyed in flooding not many years later. So now 20 years later I decided it was time I started again, but this time I am doing it in 9.8s or better. Unfortunately the series has fallen out of favor of collectors, with the exception of 3 key issues. Which means over half the series has fewer than 10 copies in 9.8. This is mainly because people don't bother with getting them graded. Which creates a sort of false rarity. Which means prices fluctuate wildly for sales since there are so few being sold. Then there is the fact that a TV series is coming for it. That will throw the prices around as well, but I don't see a lot of people getting the series graded beyond the first 9 issues maybe. As for the series I think it will be canceled within the first season like the rest of the vertigo TV shows that came out. The only reason Lucifer has lasted so long is its about sex and a hot guy, which will definitely not be the case of Sandman. So I think in the end it will just drive the price of the keys up and that's about it. But so far I have 7 9.8s for the series. So still 75+ to go.
  10. So, this is my first topic and my second post. I have noticed that in the series I collect in CGC graded books there are first appearances for characters that are not noted on the issue the characters first appears in. The specific cases I am thinking of are Sandman #10, #21 and Sandman Special #1. In order these are the first appearances of Desire, Despair, Delirium and Destruction of the Endless. These are not minor characters by any means and there are even further issues in the series where their appearance in the issue is noted. For example in issue #45 the label notes "Delirium appearance." So she is well known enough to note that she appears in an issue, but not to note her first appearance? As far as I have seen there is also no debate as to these characters' first appearances so its not a matter of which issue they actually appear in first. To further add to my confusion CGC HAS noted a character such as Nada in issue #9, a character that is far less important and less know than the characters who haven't been noted. There are other characters in the series that have also not been noted that have been popular enough to go on to have their own mini series. Is it possible to get CGC to start noting their first appearances on books? Or if not is it possible when submitting a book with a first appearance to have CGC to note the first appearance? Hopefully I didn't post this in an area it doesn't belong. Thank you.
  11. Hello everyone. This is my first time posting. I am looking at a book right now that I am thinking about buying. It has a few flaws that might be manufacturing defects and I was wondering if you could help me. Do you think this line of dots that follow the advertisement's black border are a printing error?
