PGM X-Men #266
StreetPreacher replied to Miketaylorwork's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Looks to be in pretty decent shape as is! Maybe a couple minor 'indents', non colour breaking spine ticks, and possibly some ink wear at the top right corner, or I guess the printing press might have just been low on ink :). Good luck on the grade. Are you planning to sell it? Because honestly, unless you're planning to sell it soon then it might be easier to just put it in a nice new archival quality bag or toploade, rather than mailing it off into the CGC void for potentially 6+ months... -
BATMAN #423 - CLASSIC MCFARLANE COVER
StreetPreacher replied to Wall-Crawler's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
It's just a shame the issue has this ICONIC cover, but such a LAME story! I think the highlight of this issue might have Batman rescuing a cat from a tree... Luckily most people seem to buy comics mostly based on the covers and never read them anyway -
PGM Spawn #1 Newsstand
StreetPreacher replied to Gino Purple the Purple Boy's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Yeah, other than the newstand version of #1 and possibly a couple others, everything else from #1-#50 are usually available in my LCS's $5 back issue boxes. Like #9 (first appearance of Angela?) might sell for low double digits. But definitely check the recent SOLD prices for newstand copies of Spawn #1, and you should be able to decide if it's worth the time/expense to get it slabbed... Or if you might net nearly as much just selling the comic RAW. -
What's the value of this 1984 McFarlane portfolio?
StreetPreacher replied to Timely's topic in Comics General
If anyone still cares, copies of this are currently selling for ~$65 -
And I managed to complete my McFarlane ASM run sooner than expected! #299 is in the mail, and I think I'll skip #300 unless the prices drop for some reason...
-
Well I bought my first 2 Slabs UNDER PROTEST, because I couldn't find a RAW copy for a better deal I also managed to finally complete my McFarlane Spider-Man Run (1-16) that he did before jumping ship to start Image! How ungrateful is that? Marvel give Todd his OWN new Spider-Man book that he's allowed to write AND draw on his own, but then he does 16 issues before off and starting his own gig! And I'm now NEARLY finished completing my McFarlane ASM run! I'm only missing #299 which is in the mail (I swear!), and #300, which I might just skip unless I can find an amazing deal on a copy some day...

UPS LOST my Wolverine #1 Frank miller
StreetPreacher replied to Abracadavar's topic in SigSeries Event Central
Well sometimes it does work out! SWIM had pre-ordered an HTC Vive years ago when they first game out. The Fed Ex people delivered it, but they apparently delivered it to and had it signed for by some random neighbour who just happened to be outside at the time the Fed Ex person arrived... I mean, it could have been just some complete stranger that happened to be walking down the street whenever the delivery person showed up! SWIM contacted Fed Ex and told them they'd never received the package, and have NO IDEA who signed for it, and asked why they would simply deliver an expensive package and allow for it to be signed for by a random person who claimed to be SWIMs 'neighbour;'... And even if it was SWIMS neighbour, who knows if they liked SWIM, or if I they owed them money and they decided to just keep the package? Fed Ex sucks. It took a while, and SWIM ended up having to do a charge back on their CC, but in the end SWIM won and got a refund, and Fed Ex lost! It felt good to hear about an individual finally be on the positive end of one of these screw ups by a huge corporation! -
Not exactly high grade, but the low grade on the ASM is due to a crease on the back cover, so it still looks great from the front! And if anyone isn't aware, these are Todd McFarlane's first cover work on Incredible Hulk and Amazing Spiderman!

Please grade my ASM 298
StreetPreacher replied to TappanZee's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Honestly, I almost never look at a vendors history when buying comics from ebay. Ebay has good enough buyer protection methods that i feel pretty safe buying off of anyone these days. -
Please grade my ASM 298
StreetPreacher replied to TappanZee's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Well it doesn't look like a 9.8, so it's possible you could get more selling it raw? I'd have to check the current market values! It would just sucks to drop like $50 and 6 months getting it graded if you're only going to make an extra $10 or $15 bucks... What is the minimum added profit that makes it worth while to send a book in for grading? -
Comics that are valuable ONLY because of the cover
StreetPreacher replied to OuterboroGuy's topic in Comics General
This one always comes to mind. The story is boring and inconsequential (Batman helping orphan kids, etc.), but the cover is AMAZING! -
Very Light Creasing to cover...
StreetPreacher replied to Pizzafist's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I think this is what happened with a book I bought. I got a great deal on a CGC 6.0 that had JUST been slabbed a month ago, and noticed some creases on the back cover. The book had been pressed, so I assume the original owner had hoped those creases would have been fixed and resulted in a hgher grade.. Unfortunately the creases are still visible, and I got a slabbed book for $25! Which is less than he paid to have it pressed/graded! -
Please grade my ASM 298
StreetPreacher replied to TappanZee's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Why do you want to get it Graded/Slabbed in the first place? Are you planning to sell it, or is this just for your own 'enjoyment'? -

Batman 423 Todd McFarlane Appreciation Thread
StreetPreacher replied to solarcadet's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
Haha, yeah, label says it was signed by Al Milgrom, but it sure looks like the book was actually autographed by McFarlane! Weird that they'd screw that up since the signature was done during one of CGC's own autograph sessions... Was Al there signing books at the same event? -
I just find that most people seem to list their RAW books for too high a price, so I just skip most of the listings. I mean, I guess that Infinity Inc. is worth $20, but I'm not paying more than $2 for a book that most people have never heard of, and that relatively few people are shopping for it.. Live I've watched this same issue of Infinity Inc #21 on sale for $20 for a few months... I guess it'll sell eventually, so it's not worth it reduce the price?

Although all of that stuff will likely be old, falling apart, and need repair or replacement in 10 years. While your comic book collection would likely be worth more than it is now
-
Funny you say that, because Batman definitely seemed to be starting to bulk up on the Year 2 Trade Paperback collection of this series: Howeer personally I always liked he exaggerated bulk that McFarlane added to his 'superhero' characters.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but I was wondering what people think happened here. Did CGC intentionally package this with the damaged area folded back? Or did the folded bit get caught on something during packaging, and end up folding over in the final slab? It just seems that they'd at least package the book trying to make the damage less noticeable if possible?
-
I've meant to do the research, but how much consideration does CGC give to colour fading? Sometimes I don't even notice that a book has severe colour fading unless I actually see it next to an unfaded example...
-
And good time to do it. the 40 somethings that are currently spiking the market will be dead soon too, and most kids today don't seem to have much interest in comic books, so there might be a precipitous drop in comic book value coming as this generation dies off...

Is CGC going to start grading Trading cards?
StreetPreacher replied to miscus555's topic in Comics General
Personally, I'm waiting for them to start grading PLAYING CARDS! I've got a few Bicycle One Eyed Jacks that must be 9.8s AT LEAST!! -
But do you like that cover? I always loved that Spidey punching Hulk up through the title cover!
