  1. Exactly. Oddly, CGC rep. did share this today: "The outside of the box had no visible but when we opened the box the corner crunches were there. " Still not worth fighting them over it. I'm going to send a small test batch submission to CBCS and see how things go... tight after I call CGC and cancel my membership!
  2. Packaged in two separate bundles, each with cardboard front and back and blue painter taped together. Sorted by grading tier.
  3. So, I got this email today from a rep. at CGC. Thank you for your recent submission. Our graders asked me to reach out to you regarding this order. Unfortunately, when this package was opened our team noticed there was shipping damage to the books (see image below). Some of the books have received a corner crunch on the backing boards resulting in some of the books having received shipping damage. Before we can proceed with this order, we will need you to confirm how you would like us to proceed. Please select one of the options below. Submission was a 15 book 9.8 pre-screen with MANY brand new books. They included a link to the damage. Here's the part I find interesting... Also a part of this SAME order were 3 books submitted for standard modern tier grading. Oddly, those books did not receive any of the "shipping damage" and are being graded. It's almost like someone dropped the stack of 9.8 pre-screen books after my package was opened and the two grading tiers were separated to different locations at CGC. Also, isn't it CGC's policy to reject a package if it appears to have been damaged in shipping? For this sort of damage to have happened, there would have been clear signs of damage to the outside of the package. I have asked CGC for pictures of my original packaging to show any damage that occurred in transit. I suspect that they will not be able to produce such an image as the original package will already have been "disposed of". Really ready to make the switch to CBCS. This is the second such issue in the last three submissions for me.
  4. But they were in separate boxes? Two separate stacks to be graded? They could have only dropped one and not the other. Just saying it's possible.
  5. Just had the same thing with a 16 book 9.8 pre-screen. All modern books. MANY were BRAND NEW books, thought hey were from the 1990's. Not my first rodeo either. Been submitting for 5+ years, usually 6-10 submissions per year. Typically get 70-90% approval rate on pre-screens. And of course, no grader notes on this order. I'm sure my books were dropped while in CGC's "care". Though they'll state they were damaged in shipment and take no responsibility. If a package has outward damage, they reject it straight away and return it to sender. So, my thinking is, once they accept an order, inspect it as having no damage from shipping, they should be held responsible for anything that happens to the book thereafter. Convenient loophole for CGC that they leave open when it could be easily closed with a few extra Quality Control steps. Seriously considering CBCS.
  6. Pics of page #3. Depending upon how you count the page numbers, the third "page" is a non-story page with ads on both sides. Though page #3 as numbered by the artist is a story page (see first image).
  7. Comic is firmly attached at staples throughout book. Pretty significant tanning, which may not be evident in pics. Looks like some foxing on back cover too. Pages appear to be off-white to white. Wondering how much the front cover missing piece hurts the grade. What do you guys think it would grade at?
  8. Purple... that's a tough break. Do you (or anyone out there) know if the color retouching takes the grade down? I understand the qualified label, but was wondering if the restoration, if done poorly or not, effects the grade.
  9. 9.0 as-is. CP could see a 9.4 depending on how those spine stress marks come out. Nice looking book.
  10. A clean copy of Captain Marvel Giant-Size Special #1, but with what look like printing flaws on the front and back covers. Front cover is clearly magenta ink streaking/smudging. On the back cover, it's black and yellow smudging. I've seen both occurrences on other copies of the same comic in raw books, but can't find one graded. Wondering if these printing process issues would affect the grade and if so, how much. Thanks!
  11. I agree with a 9.2 after a clean and press. what are the feelings on the printer ink defect on back cover (top left)? ive seen multiple copies of this issue with the same defect, some even with magenta streaking on the front cover. Wondering if CGC knocks down the grade because if it.
  12. Ok guys. This copy of Marvel Team-Up #131 just got graded. Here's the outcome including grader notes. Hope this is helpful to someone. I felt some of the opinions here that it was a 7.0-7.5 book were a bit harsh. And I was a bit optimistic in thinking it could still pull a 9.0. It was a beneficial journey for me, even though I'll only break even on the book. CGC Cert # 3800401007 Grade: 8.5 Page Quality: WHITE Grader Notes: crease top of front cover breaks color small crease left top of front cover breaks color spine stress lines breaks color
  13. My thought was 9.0, possible 8.5 if really harsh grader. I figure the crease knocks it down to 9.4 then the 4 tick marks push it down to 9.0. I think I’ll send it in just for the education aspect.
  14. What do you guys think? A few minor spine ticks, but the real concern is the circular crease that breaks color along the top edge. It is not a tear and is not dettached. Thanks!
