  1. Slight change in plans Upon the counsel of numerous people I have decided to stay in the hobby but only slightly. I will be getting rid of the majority of my comics and hanging onto 1 specific character. My son who is just under 2 years old has taken very strongly to my most beloved of characters. This characters name is Spider-man. I will sell everything I own minus these for the time being. I can remember the first time I picked up a Spider-man comic and I was instantly enthralled by this character. No other comic has taken me like these and I would love to pass these on to him someday. I have not quite decided if I will keep all things Spidey or just a couple titles but they will more than likely be the last to find their way to the auction block. I will be listing other comics (over 3000) on ebay starting within the week and I will be leaving notices on the forums under the ebay selling area if you would like to keep up there. Thanks goes to Tnerd (mostly) for the advice. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  2. Selling it all? Well, I have reached a point in my col, lecting where I can no longer afford to grade nor continue buying issues (new or back issues). I feel that if I cannot keep buying issues then I am no longer collecting and I am just storing or hoarding whichever is the prefered term. Plus, with another child on the way and us needing to find and move into a bigger home it seems one of my only choices is to liquidate my collection, this will also alleviate the need for extra storage space and moving hassles. The real question is do I break up everything and get rid of it all or do I try and keep certain prizes? I am leanign towards getting rid of it all. With that decided what is the best way sell in lump collection, pieces of collection or singles? Oh well, guess I will figure it out along the way. On a side note if anyone sees anything they would like of the stuff I have listed on the CGC site make an offer and I will consider it. I will be putting stuff up on ebay as fast as time permits but first I must go through the whole collection (which includes alot of ungraded comics) and figure out decent auction prices and such. Thanks to all for providing a great community to be a part of and also the competitive parts of collecting on this site as well. Jason Jacobs To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 3. This could be tough I have decided that I am going to go through the ardious process of refocusing my collection. What I actually have posted on this registry, like many, is just a very small protion of my collection. Last time i checked I believe I had close to 3000 comics. It is not that I no longer enjoy these comics but really comes down to a money thing combined with how I like to collect. I am a completeionist when it comes to collecting. It urkes me to no end that some of the stuff I started collecting, with new series or a waning interest, will not be completed as I would rather complete something more interesting to me. So I will be going through my collection and cleanign it out. This will be tough I am sure. I am sure though that it will generate money that I can use towards completing my remaining series and thus will kill two birds with one stone. So be ready to see me postign on the forums about books I am selling in the coming weeks and mayber even months depedning on how much I can get done in between work, family, gaming, and soon to be school once again. To any others that have been trying to decided to do this or not I will let you know how it is going so maybe you can make a better descion on if it will be good for you as well. 4. Getting back to collecting and grading with a New Year Well, I have decided to start back into grading again. Last year I let me membership run up, stopped grading and downgraded how many comics I buy a week. My comics numbers are still low for buying but I have sent in 30 comics for grading. They are shipped and on their way back to me and I am content with the grades received. I have decided to try and focus on one set at a time for grading mainly which I think will help keep grading costs down and, once I get the entire set graded, will give me a sense of accomplishment. I do not think I will have the money for a show this year but who knows with some extra OT at work and a nice tax return.... Either way I am happy to be back at it. Jason
  5. I just got some of my comics back from the Philly show and just wanted to share a couple of the comics I got. This is the first time I have done anything like this. I stood in line for a good deal of the day just to get various artists to Sketch some of those Secret Invasion Con Variants for me and after doing so I went directly to my LCS and bought five more copies of said variant for the Baltimore show. Please bear with me as my scanner is not the best and trust me when I say these comics look much better in person. The First one is by Greg Horn. Know my wife is an Anita Blake Fan and also likes Greg's work, personally I like his work as well great artist and a funny guy. He told her he was only doing Skrulls when she asked for Anita Blake and she said whatever and this is what you get. Personally I find it very amusing.
  6. High grade or Complete set I do believe that I will be changing how I am trying to collect certain comics. Like take my 30 cent price variant set for example... The only ones I have at the moment are either highest grade or second highest grade in exists minus one I got graded on my own. Now high grade comics are quit expensive and unfortunately with a new kid on the way and with the way the economy is going I can't afford to keep it all going with straight up high grades. So for the time being I believe I will be shifting gears to go with more mid grade stuff maybe buying up some raw books and submitting them myself for the older stuff and then replacing them further down the road. I figure maybe completeing some of my sets would help to spurn on some more thrifty saving to get some higher grades into these sets or I will just have some of the most complete sets of comics on the boards who knows but I definitely can't afford to keep chasing down the super high grade stuff. So I may not end up with the highest grade sets in the end but at least for now I will hopefully start filling in holes. P.S. Modern stuff I will still be going for high grade
  7. Impatient in PA Here it is Comic book convention season again, and the Grading has slowed to a crawl. I went to Wizard world Philly recently to submitt a buch of comics for signature series and also have some of those secret Invasion Con covers sketched on and submitted and now I have to wait for them to come back. I can't actually watch the progress of these comics because they were submitted on site and not through the website unfortunatley but I did submit some other comics just after coming back from the show to try and get an idea of how far along they should be. Ofcourse I am sure that I am just like everyone else at the moment who recently sent in comics, watching the status of their order staying on "Recieved" and no site of movement. I am just impatient I suppose but I do know that this year they seem to be 2 weeks behind just as they were last year when I started submitting comcis for CGC. I suppose I got spoiled with fast results during the off season.
  8. Today I start A Very Long Journey Today is the day that I made my first 2 entries of 30 cent variant comics. This should prove to be a very long and drawn out journey that will probably be completed just before I finish collecting all together. It has always been hard tyo find these comics and I am going to try and put together a complete list of highest or second highest comics before I am done. If the civil war Signature series I have started ( which is going great by the way) is any indication of how hard it is to actually start searching and waiting for what I want than I know it will be Fun and Very Very drawn out over the years. I am looking forward to every moment. P.S. I passed that guy Indyfan on the registry again
  9. Here I come going for the top spot. I know alot of people are into getting older comics and filling in spots in there collcetions of bronze, silver, and gold age comics. Unfortunatley that can be very expensive and not everyone has comics that go back that far sitting around waiting to be graded plus they are very hard to find. Now me on the other hand I have decided to go for what I already have a ton of and is a much smaller set than some of these huge runs of comics that date back before I was born. I have decided to build up my civil war collection and I am shooting straight for the top. I don't have alot of them graded at the moment but I do have about 75% or so of the ungraded ones just waiting for chances to have the signature of the great artists and writers involved with these books witnessed then graded ofcourse. For something as big as civil war that has changed the way the Marvel Universe is and always will be, I would expect to see some great collections of these comics going into the registry. I personally will try to get as many signature series comics as I possibly can because I feel this series is well worth the time and money and sometimes the great hassle of getting this done.
