About Me

  1. I have a copy of X-Men 101 and it is a Canadian version. I can not seem to find if this is a similar value to US or a percentage of lesser value. Any help would be appreciated.
  2. I have 2 auctions on eBay for CGC graded comics signed by Stan Lee, both with low starting prices: STAN LEE signed UNCANNY X-MEN 257 CGC 9.4, Jim Lee cover, Chris Claremont story https://www.ebay.com/itm/264235332471 STAN LEE signed X-FORCE #6 CGC 8.5, Rob Liefeld story and art https://www.ebay.com/itm/264235339612
  3. NO BUYER'S PREMIUMS — What you bid is what you pay! Event Auction XXXVIII Highlight: Color Guides Jim Steranko and John Byrne are revered talents in the comic book industry whose contributions to the history of the art form are well documented. The artists defined the look and style of their eras that not only left a lasting impression on their fans but, so too, on pop culture as a whole. These color guides from some of their most important works are a fascinating look inside the creative process these legends employed while crafting their comic masterpieces. Steranko’s stints on Strange Tales and Nick Fury are considered some of the most groundbreaking in the history of comics. Borrowing psychedelic and pop art influences from the era, the previously unknown artist quickly rose to prominence and completely changed readers concepts of what comic book art was, and could be. The color guides to issue #155 of Strange Tales provide a window into Steranko’s exacting approach to his work and his inflexible attention to every detail of his output, from pencils to inks, to scripting, right on down to the minutiae of plotting color guides. All of Steranko’s work from this era is highly regarded and sought after. Simply owning an original piece of these landmark issues will give the winning bidder not only bragging rights but also the responsibility of caretaking an important part of comics history. This is serious business. It can also be said that no other artist had more impact in the late-70s to early-80s than John Byrne. The Canadian-born Byrne’s tenure on the X-Men set a new standard for comics as his style built on the lessons of the great illustrators that came before him while adding new layers of detail, heft, and energy that had never been seen before. The X-Men went from modest cult success to one of the biggest titles in the industry under Byrne, and it can be argued that the most important storyline in his epic run on the series is “Days of Future Past.” Dealing with disturbing subject matter, and the actual deaths of superheroes, issues #141 & 142 of the X-Men were game changers that set the table for the wave of anti-heroes and darker reframing of iconic characters that would dominate the Bronze Age and beyond. “Days of Future Past” spawned a blockbuster movie and spun off countless storylines in the Marvel Universe. The stunning color guides from these classic issues are sure to become the centerpiece of any collection. Combine the historical significance of these books with the undeniable talent of John Byrne and you end up with a wonderful and valuable collectible as well as a solid investment. Prices on original pen and ink art from the “Days of Future Past” storyline have reached the stratosphere. The original color work done for these books offers a great opportunity to own a piece of the original art process of one of the greatest stories in modern comics history. Make sure to check out some of the other amazing color guides in this auction: Silver Surfer, Iron Man, Captain America, and Power Man and Iron Fist are all represented in this fascinating collection that showcases an often overlooked but crucial element of the painstaking process of creating comic books. 4. This has got to be one of the major Marvel keys to have, Silver or Bronze - the introduction of the new X-Men. The Deadpool movie introduced a Colossus worthy of the movies, and I think that Disney will soon be exploring the new X-Men on the big screen after final negotiations are over with Fox. I feel that once Disney/Iger/Feige hints that an X-Men movie is in the works, we'll see this issue go red-hot like Hulk #181 has (last summer, when that issue was selling for $1,500, I thought I'd wait for it to cool down; now it's at $2,000). I happened to buy a GS X-Men #1 about a year ago for $550, and a copy of the same grade on eBay today will cost me $900. IMHO, I don't think a year from now that it'll be available for under $1200 in anything above a 4.0. Does anyone think my outlook isn't accurate?
  5. I have just set up a gallery on my CAF just for consignment art I will be selling for friends. https://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=195644 Currently up for sale there are 4 pieces, with 2 by Jim lee and 2 by Jason Pearson. First is the end page from X-men #8 by Jim Lee & Art Thibert featuring Ghost Rider for $6500, and it comes custom framed, as it has been since the '90s. Next is the manga comic Eat-Man tpb cover by Jim Lee & Scott Williams for $4k. Then there are 2 Jason Pearson pieces featuring his pinup from Prophet #1 back in 1993, and his cover to Xena #9. Both are $1500 each. At this time my friend is really only looking for cash for these pieces. Trade is not something he is into but it may be considered if you have any Wildstorm covers, pinups, or card art by Michael Golden, Arthur Adams, Adam Hughes, or Jason Pearson. Check or MO is preferred, but Paypal is acceptable is you pay the 3% for fees. Best offers will be considered as well. I can be reached through CAF mail, PM here, or through my personal email madman1138 at yahoo dot com. Thanks for looking!

  12. Hello All... I have a few questions regarding the grading of the personalized (and serialized) mail-in comic book, 'X-Men and Captain Universe: Sleeping Giants' that was published in 1994: 1) I am debating whether or not to submit XM-CU:SG for grading but I would like the trading card that is with it to be included in the holder as well (and not just buried inside the comic as one seller commented that they "believed it to be" inside the book.) Is this something CGC is able to do upon request? I want the card visible in the holder if at all possible. (I only see two CGC slabbed 'X-Men Captain Universe: Sleeping Giant' comics on Ebay, and neither have the card in the holder... so is CGC removing the cards prior to encapsulation OR are these books being submitted to CGC without the card?) 2) On the CGC Census Board, the 'XM-CU:SG comic currently only has a Grand Total of NINE submissions of various grades. The Census Board itself is segregated into two sections: The top section does not indicate what the book is being graded for and contains 5 submissions. The bottom section is titled, "Carded Edition" and contains 4 submissions. Does this mean that the top section is the Non-carded Edition and/or books whose cards were not submitted with the comic? (was there a non-carded edition of this book??) 3) Does a lower serial number mean that the book could be potentially worth more on the market? For instance, if someone were to have serial number 00001... would this be worth more than higher serial numbers? BTW... I originally posted these questions in the "Ask CGC" Forum about 2 weeks ago and my post remained available to view for a few hours and then it disappeared (as it said it would in the write-up) but I never received a response nor did it reappear, so I am reposting here in the hope that someone can help answer?? I've visited the CGC message boards a dozen times since 2 weeks ago searching for a reply from the moderator but it always says, "Your first post must be approved by a moderator." (Just as it does now.) Well, I made my first post back then but I guess it got lost in cyberspace somewhere so I hope when I hit send that this makes it to the boards. Hoping GCG and friendly board members can help clarify some of this for me... thanks in advance for any help and answers! THANKS! ---CBK---

  15. I'm planning some home renovations this Winter/Spring, so I'm going to hopefully have a series of sales. This is the first. All the books in this lot are CGC'd. I'm sorry that I only have pictures and no scans for most, but my slab scanner doesn't seem to like the latest version of Windows 10;) I might be able to add some scans later on. This time shipping is not included, but I charge exact shipping and no “handling” fees. With slabs I find that there is too much of a difference between the East and West Coast to charge everyone the same thing. I do use Regional boxes if I can save you money (and I double box). I'm on the East coast. I send anything over $200 signature required. I pay for private insurance, so that is covered by me. I will ship anywhere. Paypal and checks/MO's are accepted. Time payments are possible (but ask me first before posting a Take It) General rule is 20% down (non refundable) due within 3 days. The rest of the payment schedule we can work out, but the payments must be completed no later than March 2nd. If they are not, I will refund the balance minus the initial 20%. Take it rules. You can post a take it in the thread or in a PM. If you post in the pm, put the time. I don't expect ties, but if there is one, the tie goes to the post on the thread. Returns. I accept returns on anything. With slabs, you are responsible for postage each way. You have 7 days from the day you received the book to return it to me. It must be packaged the way I packed it. Please let me know before returning anything. No list people please. If there are any questions, or you want me to try to take more pictures, just pm me. I'll be around until late afternoon.
