Hi everyone, sorry for the delay to get this going! It's been a busy summer and I have been MIA on these boards for most of it. However, now that the delay is over......it's time! With the greatest of respect and a tip of my hat to the irreplaceable Nik, I would like to offer for your fun and enjoyment, the 7th annual CGC Green Eggs Grading Contest. On Friday, September 20th, I will officially start this grading contest over in the "Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?" section of the boards. This here is the sign up thread, for all interested. Everyone is welcome to join in. Please post here if you would like to play in this contest. It's a lot of fun, and there will be prizes. 1.) You will see 2 books per round, for 10 rounds. The contest will begin on September 20th and (should) end on October 10th. 2.) There will be an approximate 48 hour time limit between rounds. I will confirm the end time for all rounds once the contest starts. I will send everyone a PM on the day the contest starts. You are to look at the books; figure out the grades and reply to that very same PM that I started with you. Again, this will be the same PM thread that you will use to submit all grades for all rounds. Please do not create a new PM for each grade submission. 3.) No changing of grades will be allowed once submitted. Post only one single, numerical grade for each book. If you post more than one grade (e.g. 8.5/9.0) then your submission for that round will be void. No excuses. As there will be 2 books per round, make it clear which grade is for which book. For example, say ASM #1 4.5 and on the next line say FF #12 8.0. Please don't screw this up. 4.) The page quality and any noticeable defects you can not see on the book from the scan will be given for each round. Do not PM with questions. Assume that all of the books have been pressed. The scans that you will be looking at will be of the book already inside the CGC case. 5.) Points awarded will be as follows; 5 points for a direct hit, 3 points for 1 grade off, 1 point for 2 grades off and -1 point for 3 grades off. If you are 4 grades off or more, I'm going to hit the "notify moderator" button. 6.) Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers, and likely many, many more. From what we've seen in previous years, folks have been extremely generous and most people that enter will win a prize. Also,a booby prize will be given for last place. Last place is defined as the person who has participated in all the rounds and has the lowest score. You can not sign up, do nothing and win the booby prize. 7.) Sadly, sckao will not be lending a hand this year. It's been an amazing experience, having him hold my hand for over 6 years now, but he's a busy guy, so I don't blame him one bit! Thanks for being a legend among legends, Shin!

Another New Year is upon us. So it must be time for the Best of 2018... ...wait for it... ...BUDGET EDITION! Yes, the only year-end review where wallet-challenged OA collectors have a shot at glory! Once again, this is not intended to compete with, but rather to supplement the CAF Best Of 2018. So be sure to post over there when they open for entries. As I said last year, the Budget Edition is intended to show some of the truly wonderful comic art that can be acquired with a little patience and a keen eye. And I hope it encourages new people to test the waters with smaller purchases before jumping into the hobby! Last year went pretty smoothly. So let's run down the rules again... RULES FOR ENTRY: Post ONE PIECE OF ART per reply. This is your entry. There are two categories: PUBLISHED and UNPUBLISHED. Type one of these at the TOP of your entry. Attach the image so that it shows in the reply. Type the artist and title-issue-page (if published). Don't include any info about how you acquired it or the piece's "story". Save that for your CAF. We don't want people swayed by your powerful prose. Let the art stand on its own. (However, you CAN link to the piece on your CAF so that people can read more about it there.) You cannot have paid more than $400 for the art. (I raised the cap from $300 last year. Go wild!) This price must include Buyer's Premium. Shipping, handling, and insurance are not factored in. Convention entry fees are not relevant. No, we cannot verify your purchase price. We are on the honor system here. And let's leave off items that you acquired within a larger group purchase unless they were specifically itemized. Again, honor system! No more than EIGHT entries per person. (I raised the cap from two entries last year.) You can post any combination of PUBLISHED or UNPUBLISHED as long as you do not post more than EIGHT pieces total. -- But again, only post ONE PIECE PER REPLY so we can vote properly. Illustration, game, movie, original animation, and merchandise art are all eligible. Color guides with original colors are eligible. Other all-stat or production pieces are not. You must have acquired the piece during 2018. If you paid for it, but it hasn't arrived yet, it is still eligible. VOTING: Voting opens as soon as a piece is posted! So post early to get more eyeballs on your piece. Click the LIKE button in the bottom right corner of the entries you like. You can LIKE as many entries as you want. Voting and entries will close January 9. Winners will probably be visible, but I will tally things up January 10 or 11 and post near the end of the thread. If you want to discuss the contest, please post in the other Discussion thread. Ideally, I'd like the art to stand alone here. OK, throw open those portfolios and let's see the goods!

This here is the prize thread for my 2018 Green Eggs Grading Contest! Feel free to make a donation, or even multiple donations. Please understand, you will be responsible for shipping worldwide, unless you state otherwise. As there are many contestants, I hope to see lots of prizes being thrown up. I will continue to update the 2nd and 3rd posts in this thread to recap what has been donated. What can you donate to the prize pool? Whatever you want, really. I wouldn't suggest offering up some really crappy stuff though, or things that are worth less than the shipping cost. I also would never ask anyone to donate multi-hundred dollar items, but that certainly has happened many times before. In the end, it's all up to you what you'd like to offer. Thanks y'all! -Andy

Happy (almost) New Year everyone! I thought I would take advantage of the new boards' LIKE feature to run a "Best Of 2017" thread. Well, you say, we already have the terrific Lowry Best of 2017 over at CAF. Why another? This will be the Best of 2017: BUDGET EDITION! That's right. There will be a dollar limit on the entries. More on that below. Maybe we can show some of the truly wonderful comic art that can be acquired with a little patience and a keen eye... despite an unforgiving wallet. And maybe this will encourage a few more comic collectors to venture across the aisle to grab some one-of-a-kind goodies in the future. This is not intended to compete with, but rather to supplement the CAF Best Of. So post over there and post over here too! OK, here is how we'll try this on our inaugural run... (And of course, I am open to suggestions.) RULES FOR ENTRY: Post ONE PIECE per reply. This is your entry. You cannot have paid more than $300 for the art. This price must include Buyer's Premium. Shipping, handling, and insurance are not factored in. Convention entry fees are not relevant. No, we cannot verify your purchase price. We are on the honor system here. And let's leave off items that you acquired within a larger group purchase unless they were specifically itemized. Again, honor system! Attach or link the image so that it shows in the reply. Type the artist and title-issue-page (if published). Don't include any info about how you acquired it or the piece's "story". Save that for your CAF. We don't want people swayed by your powerful prose. Let the art stand on its own. (However, you CAN link to the piece on your CAF so that people can read more about it.) There are two categories: PUBLISHED and UNPUBLISHED. Type one of these at the TOP of your entry. No more than two entries per person. You can post two published, two unpublished, one of each, or just one. But again, only post ONE PIECE PER REPLY. So, you can post two replies with art in this thread total. Color guides with original colors are eligible. Other all-stat or production pieces are not. You must have acquired the piece during 2017. Voting and entries will close January 7. Winners will probably be visible, but I will tally things up January 8 or 9 and post here at the top of the thread. If you want to discuss the contest, maybe we should start another thread. Ideally, I'd like the art to stand alone here. OK, let's see what you got!
