  1. Well, I moved earlier in the year and had to leave my old comic room behind. It was hard... until I started to make plans for the new one!!! This is my comic lounge... I call it "Johnny G's Spot" Here we have the view from the doorway coming into the room. The framed portfolios on the wall are an autographed Writson Aparitions set and a few selected Starlin pieces. The 3 5x7's are some cool laser thingamajigs I purchased at last years ECCC. Next we have a shot of the comics themselves. There are multiple HC Books on artists as well as collected works. I have tons of other stuff to sort through and make adjustments where needed. This is my "lounge" the bulk of my books are in 2 5x10 storage lockers locked up tight! I also have an "overflow" room downstairs.... ahhhh the joys of being single again! Here we have a view from my reading position. The 2 sketches are Neal Adams' Black Canary and Deadman. I recently purchased the AF15 3-d cover (quite cool). Lastly, the closet... if I showed you what was in it, I'd have to snuff you out!!! I've got Tony Montana watching over things up above it... "So, you wanna play rough eh? OK... just not in here" And that folks is my little piece of heaven I am debating hanging McFarlane figures around the ceiling.... I think it may be overkill. I have 2 great Frazetta pieces that are currently being framed... they are going into the guest/overflow room. My good friend CrowsQB (boardie) will be the first to hang with me in it tomorrow. We plan on having a comic themed movie day I am sure he is also planning on harassing me to sell some books to him! Do you have a set-up? Show us what you've got! I know there have beem threads on this in the past... but who cares! I think we have all heard enough about CA #25... if there can be 20 threads on that, why not a few on this? John
  2. Whenever I'm out searching for comics, I find that the methods that stir the most anticipation inside of me are whenever I go to garage sales, estate sales, flea markets or antique malls. You just never know what you're going to come across at one of these or at what price. I find comics other ways (eBay, the boards, online auctions, etc.) but my anticipation always seems to be higher with the old manual foot search methods. So post all of your great garage sale/estate sale/flea market/antique mall finds here. Doesn't have to be a comic either. It could be magazines, toys, posters or anything else you deem appropriate but try to keep it comic related if possible. One of the best finds I ever had was in Wisconsin on my way to a programming class in Minnesota a few years ago. About half-way there I stopped at an antique mall which was 3 levels high. Looked and looked and found nothing on the first 2 levels. Got to the 3rd level, made a left turn and looked down on the floor to my left. I just about had a heart attack. There sitting on the floor was an Exciting Comics #49 and an Adventure Comics #62. And what was the price on them? How about a nice low 10 bucks each? Needless to say, I snatched them up as faster than the Flash. I ended up selling both of them but made a nice healthy profit on each. I'll start it out with some comics and a lunch box. Picked up the first comic at a garage sale and the rest from a local antique mall. The lunch box came from another garage sale and I paid a whopping 50 cents for it.

  4. When I first head this term I literally said, "Huh"... then it made sense... The stuff is addictive. I know that there are a few hardcore collectors on these boards and some very knowledgable people in this area. So share what you want, what you picked up and discuss anything you find interesting.

Double Covers are rare and hard to find and most times bring $$$$ to the table. How many double covers do you have, how many are graded, post scans for all to see here mine... WEBHEAD

    Show us your personal artwork

So I wake up this morning to some awesome personal sketches by alecholland. I see these great contributions from time to time, and always felt there should be a permanent ongoing thread for this type of work. So hopefully budding artists, pros, and amateurs alike can put up some of their goodness here. Here's something I slapped together a while back (had to join together parts, since scanner was too small).
  7. We need a sticky for a thread like this, what do you say Mods? I really like TWIYC Thread, but I think it would be cool to post some, doesn't have to be all, books you got back from your submission. Highs or lows, doesn't matter. From GA to MA. Books that you are pleased with as well as books that make you after seeing the grade received.

    Statue Collections

Just started my statue collection not long ago with the Joker Killing Joke statue, finally added a Batman statue to go along with him. Joker is pleased. Hope to add some cool Marvel statues to the collection sometime in the future.
  9. New members join the CGC boards everyday, but some just lurk around without saying too much. The point of this thread is to give a heartfelt welcoming, and encourage our new boardies to introduce themselves and say hi. Hopefully, with your time spent here, you will learn some things, make some friends, and ultimately, enjoy yourselves. (thumbs u I'll start. I'm Andy. I love DC war comics, but have branched out into every which direction you can think of. Right now, I'm right into Golden Age books and classic covers. Don't be afraid to ask any questions. That's how you're going to learn. We do, however, have a search engine, and some people may end up asking you to use it. To save yourself a potential smidgen of ridicule, you could consider trying that first. So, without taking up any more of your valuable time, I'll step back from the podium and pass the microphone to you. Welcome to the boards, my friends!
  10. Here, here Lets post some AMAZING eBay wins in here... I guess thats what happens when you try to be cool and give a title a nickname.. You lose points on search terms

What the Boards Mean to You

Was talking to porcupine tonight and he mentioned how long he'd been here and how important this place has been to him. Got me to thinking about how long I've hung out here and how it's changed the hobby for me. I First came here to learn about CGC books. Had none and had never seen one except in pictures. I didn't know any other collectors, rarely spent more than $200 on a book, hell rarely spent more than $50 on a book. I didn't know about pedigree books aside from the Mile Highs, pressing, grading standards, auction sites outside ebay, or restoration. Looking back it's startling to realize just how important this place has been to me and how much it's changed the hobby for me. I've talked to a lot of great people, met quite a few in person, bought some wonderful books, expanded my budget, learned so so much and overall found the hobby more rewarding. Thanks CGC.
