I recently received back a grade on one of my comic of a CGC Grade 1.0. It said large piece missing from my book. I know for fact that it was and intact complete cover when I submitted. I even use a magnifying glass to go over each cover I submit to insure no tears or other issue I might miss. What I can not understand is how an entire piece is missing from my book. We top load every comic we purchase and inspect each one before we submit to CGC. I love CGC but I am having a hard time understanding this one. I am thinking for all future submissions I should take detailed dated photos of each book to prove my case. This is the 2nd time I have a had a key book basically graded low because of a major issue. I sell comics at my store for a living for 25 years and I would not miss or submit a book with such a major flaw as an entire missing piece on the cover. Please advise as how I deal with this?

Hi everyone! Are you ready for a sad story? Well, I've got one and I would appreciate any feedback or advice anyone has. I recently received a batch of books (11 in total) back from CGC. I am not an expert on this process, but all in all, I was pretty happy with the results considering several 9.8's and books otherwise graded as anticipated, etc.. However, I was heartbroken to discover that my most valuable book (Walking Dead #1) came back with a 9.0. I really thought it was a nice book. I had purchased it on the bay and here were the seller's condition comments from the listing, "Near Mint NM 1st. This is a beautiful copy with sharp corners and white pages. There are two light stress lines on the cover, which are visible at a particular angle to the light. One is near the spine (picture 9), the other is near the "D" in the logo (picture 10). No other flaws that I can detect.". When I received the book and inspected it, I agreed with the seller's comments. Really nice book. With this in mind, I sent it for pressing and then on for grading and I took pictures the day I sent it off (see attached before and after). Unfortunately, after inspection, I could first see that the book was severely out of center in the slab tilted maybe 20 degrees or so. Next, to my total amazement, I could see exactly why the low grade. I was horrified to see that the lower corner near the back now has a small tear and a chunk missing? A chunk missing! The damage is so severe that it raised the paper in that area when looking at the front of the book as well. None of my other books in this batch had any such issue, so if it selectively happened to a book in the middle of my stack while shipping, I'm calling the Vatican to report the miracle. I truly have no idea what could have happened (wood chipper?), but it appears that I now own a book that is worth several hundred dollars less than it was worth previously. Again, the entire remainder of this batch was fine. I took pictures of all books prior to sending and, other than this particular book, grades were as expected, no surprises; and no other damage.

So I'm wondering what you guys think this low grade Hulk 180. Any chance it would manage a 3.0? Also do you think it's worth sending in? Sorry for the bag I put it in there before I realized I had no front pic.

I regularly buy and sell comics, as many of us do, but I've come into a Phantom Stranger 6 from the 1952 series. Typically, I use completed eBay listings, as a guide, but eBay hasn't seen a copy of this book recently enough. It's rare I find something this scarce, and I would love insight, as to what other sources may be trusted, as a true market price. I'm not opposed to hearing opinions on a price range or grade, but I'd also like to find out what could be used in a situation like this. Is it better to just auction an item this rare and see what it does? I'm aware of gpa, but I don't have access to it, and I would ask, if it isn't reliable on a scarce book like this? The book is obviously low grade, but it is complete (I've counted the pages). The cover isn't detached, and there is a spine split nearly half of the way down. It's a pretty incredibly tight book though. There are other various condition issues with the water damage, smaller tears, and such, but the pictures should help clarify those. There are no cutouts or other major defects ( aside from what is in the photos) in the body of the book itself. This is my first post to any of the cgc forums, so I hope this is in an appropriate place and within guidelines. I'm just looking for some information and iddealy some new tools to be able to help myself in the future. If not, then I'm here to share this scarce old book. Thanks for your time!
