I like how the upcoming comicconnect af15 0.5 is being promoted as the worlds worst copy. That will sure help people remember the book!

lol Thought it was funny... Well if one can't afford the world's best copy (which probably won't be for sale any time soon), then yes you will be remembered as having the world's worst copy although I do not agree it is the worst copy I've seen. I think a coverless copy is much worst

Actually this past weekend I saw a guy get a 0.5 Purple label back from CGC with a qualifier saying cover glued to book. The guy said he spent $1600 on ebay(another fraud victim) I met this guy at Paradise comic store in Toronto.

That is probably the world's worst copy. But then again it still had a cover albeit restored.

His response back: "whatever makes you feel better....

oh and by the way the general rule of thumb is a minor restoration book

should get at least 20% of what a unrestored book should get.

last 9.0 CGC blue label unrestored book sold for 140,000.00

so whats 20% of 140 hmmmm 28,000.00 and mine is at least a 9.2

so go pretend to talk to someone else about how much you know.

I would have shredded him after this--not that it would have mattered, he seems presumptuously arrogant. First off, a restored 9.2 copy of this book JUST sold on Heritage a few weeks ago...final price? $7768. You can link him straight to the sale.

Second off? If he's right in his formula, tell him to quit his job now, start buying low-grade AF15s at around $5K, send them to Susan Cicconi, and get her to restore them to the 9.x range so they'll sell for $30K. If he gets lets say 4 out of every 10 to score a 9.0 or higher per year, then he's more than set for what most likely would only be less than a week's work. :screwy:

 AMAZING FANTASY #15 CGC 8.0 VF $44,666 $xx,000 3/5/2010 3/16/2010 8 days 22 hours 32 minutes Highest bid

I will very honestly, openly, and directly tell you that I'm NOT bidding on this book. Compliments of the misses...(she is the one with the hammer below)

:makepoint:

well, I have put in at least a token bid (thumbs u

:wishluck:

given that I don't value 8.0's as some do, I am fairly confident I won't win...but, stranger things have happened

I just realized that this is the same AF CGC 7.5 that sold in the September ComicLink auction. :hi:

I'd be really interesting to see the hammer price. A very nice looking front cover!

The Heritage copy was an EP that sold for $22,705 in Feb 09 so he may have been selective when using GPA to calculate his prices.

$7.8k was a bargain

AF15 is plentiful enough to where you can just wait for the next unrestored copy to come along...the Silver restored market is so volatile that it's tough to say it was a bargain. I almost bid on that book myself, but it's just so tough to make a call on the pre-restoration grade from a scan.

The one on ComicConnect is HARDLY the worst copy; heck, it's actually not in too bad of shape--just incomplete. And I'm relatively sure I know the copy you're talking about--it sold on C-Link the mid-end of 2008 for a MUCH higher price than expected. I'd actually bid around $850 or so on it but then it just kept going! :o

Too many scammers on ebay especially when I see he is from Toronto where I'm from. I reported him to ebay based on description and feedback. I hope they remove asap. In his description he said he bought this restored copy instead of an unrestored 8.0 so I asked him if he has a af15 cgc 8.0 unrestored to compare and he told me "does anyone read anymore". I am fed up with rude rip off artists although I am careful. Anyway so this is my 1st time reporting anyone.

DO NOT BUY AND GET RIPPED OFF.

I don't think his auction is a scam because he did mention that the book was color touched and trimmed. I have been exchanging emails back and forth telling him (before I even saw the book was restored) that I would buy the book if it was CGC'ed graded (which you can see his response in the Q & A part). I then emailed him back saying that I missed the part where the book was restored and trimmed and that the value of the book is significantly lower now because of the trimming. This is what he said:

"thanks for the lesson

obviously you have not done the research

and not following the market at all

no worries"

I then told him: "Oh I have done a lot of research and I do follow the market closely especially for Amazing Fantasy 15.. Seems like you need to know a lot more about restoration and trimming:

His response back: "whatever makes you feel better....

#2 there is a 9.4 with 3 hole puched through the entire book with a bid of 27,500

so please just spare me your intellect."

I then responded: "Get it graded by CGC then if you are so sure that it will come back a 9.2. I really want to see that. The 9.4 with the punched hole is in a green qualified label meaning if it didn't have the punch holes, it would grade out as a 9.4 or even a 9.6 universal blue label. I would rather have that than a trimmed copy as it is worth more. Why don't you ask the experts and dealers about trimming."

We'll see what he says

with the top left corner creased like that, and the back cover spine creases, there's no way it will grade a 9.2 with resto at cgc...

Sold for $57,777, almost the exact same as when it was a 7.5! Someone shelled out over $6000 to upgrade that 7.5 to an 8.0 for the next lucky buyer. QUITE A FLIP! :o

That seller lost money and must be feeling  I have mentioned before, that the Silver Age market has currently peaked late last year and we need sometime to recover. If we weren't in a down market, that AF15 8.0 would have gone higher. This is a great time to buy, if anyone has the extra funds.

I can imagine the person that bought the Mound 8.0 copy threw up in his or her mouth a little seeing that final hammer price...unless that 8.0 has been pressed up to an 8.5 hm then nothing to worry yet.

The Mound City 8.0 ended last year at $78750. I agree. It needs to be pressed up to an 8.5, otherwise the buyer will be sitting on dead money for a while. Based on the recent sales of AF15, I think a nice eye appeal 8.5 should be value around $80K-90K.

That Mound City copy was bought by Steve Ritter of Worldwide Comics almost certainly to be pressed. Interesting how most of the buyers of high-grade AF15s seem to be press-and-resubmit flippers as of late! hm
